- Tough question posted on GKRF Facebook group about tipping in Lakewood restaurants:
"At a restaurant in Lakewood, NJ, the tab had an 18% tip already added. Was I correct not to add more? It felt strange adding zero where it called for me to write in additional tip, but that’s what I did. Was it acceptable not to add more too, if it was already added for me?

-Middlesex County Superior Court Judge Joseph Paone has scheduled February 20 as the date for oral arguments in Rabbi Eisemann's case. Analysts think it is likely the state will drop the case, which has become unwinnable for them. The upcoming hearing on February 20 is set to address Rabbi Eisemann's attorneys' motion to dismiss the case.

- Kol Mevaser reports this past Sunday there were many accidents in Lakewood in a span of a few hours. Part of it was slick roads from the rain but the leaves on the roadways contributed to some of the accidents. The township leaf collection system leaves piles of leaves scattered across Lakewood roads sitting around for weeks taking up parking spots forcing pedestrians on the roadways and a hazard for drivers.

- “Men ken nisht tantzen oif tzvei chasunas” the famous yiddish phrase this is the challenge that fundraisers and leaders have tonight as there are several weddings of Torah supporters and philanthropists taking place in the NY/NJ tri state area.

 - Yat Kislev Farbrengen will take place this motzei shabbos in Lakewood

 - Lakewood Zoning board approves additional chasuna hall at Bnos Devorah the school said they will use an existing parking lot of over 120 spots for the new, second banquet hall. In exchange, they will terminate use of the existing banquet hall inside the existing school.
Faanews reports Board members Yair Stern and David Helmreich expressed numerous concerns with the proposal, including that adding 120 parking spaces for an entire second wedding hall will simply be insufficient. They added that the existing property "simply does not work."
They also highlighted that while this request was noticed to the public, it was coming under "correspondence" without full plans, and it certainly does not fall within the purview of the Board's written "correspondence policy" which states that "correspondence", is for "miniscule, insignificant changes which could really be approved administratively by the Board's professionals but the Board reviews such requests anyways to ensure that their professionals are carrying out the original intent of the board." Adding a second banquet hall does not appear to comply with the Board's written correspondence policy, they vehemently argued. The rest of the Board endorsed the application and it was approved. more

-The Brazilian Armed Forces have reportedly been placed into a Heightened State of Readiness due to a Significant Movement of Military Equipment and Personnel in Eastern Venezuela on the Border of Guyana which has recently been Detected, with Officials believing that Venezuela may soon Invade the Small South American Country in order to Annex the “Guayana Esequiba” Region which accounts for over 60% of the Nation’s Territory and has been Claimed by the Venezuelan Government.

  2. The Lakewood Planning Board has reached a new low. They approved a gigantic wedding hall with severely deficient parking UNDER CORRESPONDENCE!

    That is so crazy!!.....

Then Akerman played dumb - even though he was fully aware that Lakewood recently passed an ordinance requiring a more sensible parking ratio for banquet halls of 1:1.......

All the traffic headaches we will be forced to suffer with in the future, will be thanks to this group of low quality appointees.

  3. This additional tip is really taking advantage of ppl. If once restaurant's where made for the rich, today every loser feels he has to go out to eat, just not to feel poor, many of them have no clue how they'll pay the rent at the end of the month let alone the credit card bill. And after paying three quarters of their weeks paycheck to feel rich for 2 hours, they have to feel guilty by writing 0 for the additional tip.

    1. How interesting!
I never felt the 'need' to go to a restaurant in my life, and I don't know too many people who do feel that need.
People need to stop giving in to whining, and not spend money that they don't have. Let the rich go to restaurants, and stop 'identifying' as rich.

Today, as always, restaurants are made for those who think it is worth their money. No need to fundraise for people who want to go there.

  4. Were these two speakers actual talmidim of the Alter, or dor shlishi families?

Why aren't we getting invitations to these big weddings?

Call President Biden to send US military aid to Guyana.
    Set up a UN meeting.
    Send UN peacekeeping forces.

  5. Some say we need a mayor-council system. Consider that Galveston, a city much cooler, and hotter (sometimes like Houston), than Lakewood, in size, vibrancy, earliest Jewish settlers and shuls, just not the Torah, has the commission form of government. The people who study government say that the Lakewood form in which the municipal manager is the chief administrator, sharing executive power with the whole committee, is the best form of municipal government in a homogeneous population in which you do not need a strong mayor to bring groups together.

I would say stick with the Lakewood form of government now and see what happens when we have accountable government. Even though NJ is dominated by bosses and fiefdoms, power is limited in other towns and there is some kind of accountability. First comes government that is countable and gets results. Then we will see if it is necessary to reform the town charter. A L

  6. Vaad rule is over as far as I am concern. I am alway ready to hear an explanation of the nonsense we just witnessed in which the oilam WAS TOTALY KEPT OUT. The buck does not end anywhere.

Even if you talk to the Rosh Yeshiva and he agrees because he knows the truth and truth comes from Torah, he still "hears" the other side. Everyone sees what is happing TODAY. The motion was filed before the election and I told everyone the court might set a deadline.

Everything is up for grabs. All are too chicken to live up what is happening before their eyes. By not even acknowledge what is happening they have to hand in their resignation TO THE ROSHEI YESHIVA AND LAKEWOOD. In fact, when I filed 2014 the Vaad's two second most chashuvei members (BTYW the first, the president of the Vaad, was not even consulted during this election) told them that they had to resign for their opposition. They did not listen to these two Vaad member that understodd the matter when the case it was filed. Lead, follow or get out of the way. A L

  7. I am almost certain the Commissioner is going to recommend another seven digits in state aid, ten, twenty or thirty, but it won't be enough. We need an amount that we won't have to borrow and that the kids will get an thorough and efficient education. And the local fair share should be calculated differently. A L

  8. The BOE loss of $1.5 million is more because of incompetent management rather than legal merit. There is no reason why the disparities in Lakewood special education cannot done in compliance with federal law. They have a state monitor who has access to the commissioner and they still got in trouble the the Department ? And why would the BOE litigate in court at this stage when we are so close to the finish line. The judges even said agreed with the demographic argument that the BOE made and cited our case. And they had some expensive lawyers. A L

  9. Don't know why AL is giving an opinion about form of government. AL thinks he's smarter than 90% of Lakewood. If you're message isn't being heard then it's about the messenger, not the message. It's time to change tactics. Ranting is not how you win concensus, even if you're 100% correct. And old Texas mentality won't work in Lakewood.

    2. All I am saying is that according to twelfth grade government textbooks, a course that is required for graduation, and I taught it to my Belmar kids, the kind of municipal government we currently have can work well because it is meant for a homogenous group. Of course, you might say that our current problem of too many people protecting too much diverse turf, with no one in charge of the big picture, also might be a reason to change the charter.
