Letter: Gedolei Yisrael To Yamina

Gedolei yisrael from the Moetzes gedolei hatorah of UTJ  led by Harav Chaim kanievsky issued a strong letter directed at the Yamina party and Naftali bennet not to join a coalition and form a government that will uproot the foundations of yiddishkeit target the chinuch of thousands of years and breach the walls to protect yahadus. If they go through with their plan it will be considered  a bitter and difficult sin an act of defiance against Hashem.  The letter calls on all shomrei Torah to retract and not let this government form

History of כ' סיון the 20th of Sivan

By Rav Yirmiyohu Kaganoff

"The selichos for the 20th of Sivan consist of seven passages and seven recitations of the thirteen midos of Hashem, which is comparable to what we do at neilah on Yom Kippur. Thus, in some aspects, the 20th of Sivan was treated with more reverence than were the fast days that are mentioned in Tanach"

This date is associated with two major tragedies that befell European Jewry. The earlier catastrophe, which occurred in the 12th Century, was recorded in a contemporary chronicle entitled Emek Habacha, and also in a selicha entitled Emunei Shelumei Yisrael, from which I have drawn most of the information regarding this tragic event.

Hamodia - The NYPD is investigating two possible hate incidents late on Shabbos in Boro Park and Flatbush, part of an ongoing spate of attacks in the city.

Make Fridays Great Again

Following the tragedy in Meron klal yisroel looked for ways to improve as they always do in a eis tzara. Several yeshivos in Eretz Yisrael and in America took upon to be mechazek the Friday sedarim in yeshiva. Erev shabbos is usually a challenging day and more lax in shmiras hasdorim than the rest of the week.

In Lakewood, Fridays have become shorter  as far as school and playgroup dismissal times which in turn affects the youngeleit learning, as they must leave seder to make a 12;00 pm pick up.

The girls' schools barely have 2 hours of class on Friday because of busing schedules, dismissal begins at 11:15 am when they first get to school at 9:15. The boys schools end earlier as well It used to be a 12:30 dismissal for the girls.

There is no reason that schools can't go until 1:00 pm on Fridays there is still plenty of time to prepare for shabbos. Employees in Lakewood businesses  during the summer leave work at 1 or 2 pm. The husbands in yeshiva must leave seder early to pick up the kids who are

Steep Housing Prices, Tight Rental Market

Lakewood has become unaffordable in such a short amount of time  very short amount of time so are the words in an article in the Shavuos issue of Ami magazine. The author pleads to real estate speculators to have rachmanus on young couples and to stop inflating the prices where growing families are moving too. There Are other cities where people can invest in and make money. Homes are out of reach to most young couples but for newlyweds the apartment search is a dire situation too.

The rental market is very tight as well The weekly Masa Umatan is usually an indicator to the rental market and what used to be pages of pages with over 250 listings is now only a 2 page spread with few basements some asking for $1800 and most of the listings are homes in the $2000- $3000 a month range.  According to the article it is a vicious cycle as  there are many young families ready to move out of basements or small apartments but are stuck there due to the high real estate market and speculators who are offering all cash and willing to go up to 70k above asking price. This  creates a shortage in basement rentals for newlyweds. Other

Making a Chasuna During Sefira After Lag Baomer

Recently more and more weddings are taking place during the 2nd half of sefira it was not so long ago  ago that  weddings did not take place between Lag Baomer and Shavuos. It was always more common to make weddings from after Pesach up to Rosh Chodesh Iyar.  The trend has changed and currently wedding halls have been busy during the second half of sefira after lag Baomer. The main factor is the lack of  availability to book a hall and set a wedding date during the busy chasuna season after shavuos . A long engagement is standard by chasidim but not in the yeshiva circles. (Chasidim have an option to plan a wedding and book a hall a 9 months to (or a year) in advance).  A 4 months engagement is now common for a chosson kallah that get engaged in February/March (after The freezer opens) and are first getting married after shavuos.

Years ago in Baltimore there was a lack of Chasuma halls and it was hard to find a wedding date.  Rav Moshe  Heineman shlita ruled that you can make weddings during sefira after Lag baomer, something that was not done prior to that. Some Roshei yeshiva will not be mesader kiddushin though, during sefira.

Rav Moshe Feinstein (Igros 159) He explains that the prohibition of getting married during Sefira belongs only to the chosson and kallah and when they are permitted to marry, others are permitted to
