More on Lace Cap Sheitel

Updated: See below letter from Lakewood poskim on Lace Cap Lace front Sheitels.

Video discussing some opinions on Lace sheitel On Torah Anytime. Modesty defined

Modesty defined

Excerpts from public letter by Lakewood poskim from 2 years ago assuring the lace sheitels.

It is our chiyuv to make the tzibur fully aware that some of the sheitels being sold currently are asur min hadin to wear....In other words the sheitels appearance must attest for itself that it is not the hair of the wearer. It follows that when a sheitel projects a look that is too natural, it becomes asur to wear...It is therefore obvious that we have two grave issurim with the latest design of lace cap sheitels so they are categorically asur to be worn...

- although its asur to buy a lace cap wig if you inadvertantly bought one it can bideved be fixed. Likewise the lace front sheitels should not be worn but can be fixed...for more info call...

  1. You mean it's not just the chasidim? What a shocker.

  2. The Lakewood poskim are very aware of Rav Moshe's psak but Rav Moshe did not see the lace cap Rav Coren did not quote any contemporary poskim who agree with him but is relying on reb Moshe

    2. no one has any idea who r' neiman is, writing his name in 50 comments won't make him an authority.

    5. Reb Shmuel Neiman from Monsey is a massive Ga'on, and a son of the Vizhnitzer Dayan Reb Avraham Nissan Neiman.

The letter 'against' him is a fraud and a shonde. Some of the signers publicized that they were coerced and fooled into signing, and asked mechila from him. Others died pretty soon after signing. There are recordings of people talking to some other signers, in which they admit there is nothing really wrong with him.
Rabbi Neiman also makes valid points in his speech, and personal attacks on him will not invalidate his points.

  5. Rabbi Reisman said years ago regarding the shabbos makeup when a few rabbonim allowed it, that when most of the rabbonim say its assur why would you want to go against them. He compared it to where most the majority of the reliable doctors say if you do this you will die and a couple said it's fine. Why woukd you risk your life to against the majority of the doctors. Are the lace tops such a must have that's its worth mentioning that a few rabbonim allow it

  6. Take out r moshes teshuva read it inside, its very clearly muttar according to his words , whether he saw it or not is irrelevant . Its a question of maris ayin, woman cover their hair for themselves to feel their real hair is covered. That doesn't change if other people can tell or not the torah dosent worship society opinion like we do

    1. Hmm. Rav moshe says it’s not maras eiyin because you easily tell it’s a wig. If that is not the case here then your logic doesn’t follow.

      Delete
    2. Yanki thats not what r moshe says r moshe says very clear there is no maris ayin because we don't make up new maris ayin , he also adds in that even if there would be maris ayin it wouldn't be maris ayin. (prime example how people try to use r moshe for their agenda)

    3. 1. Do you rely on all R' Moshe kulas?Would you eat chalav Stam (in public)
      2. Do you follow all R' Moshe chumras?
Do you open bottle caps on Shabbos, do you use a Shabbos clock etc.
Follow your posek and that's it!

    4. Reb Moshe does not say you can 'easily' tell it's a wig. He says even if it is only with difficulty that you can tell it's a wig, it is still muttar.

There are many people who are uncomfortable with Reb Moshe's opinions, so they distort them because they know they will never get away with arguing with him.

    5. R'Moshe T'shuva always stated a Yarei Shamayim should be machine on cholov yisroel. And in today's day and age where cholov yisroel is readily available, it doesn't require much yiras shamayim to be machmir

If this is a takanas hatzibur fine no diff than the communities that wear hats with sheitlach
    But we need direction

    1. IN that link there is a transcript of a speech of Rav Falk about it. Interestingly enough, he does not say that it is a halachic problem. He says quite clearly that it is wrong, it is an avla, people shouldn't be trying to look unmarried etc. But he does not say it is assur. Quite likely, the reason for that is because he doesn't believe it is assur, merely that it is wrong.
I don't disagree that it is wrong. But to say something is assur when it isn't, is more wrong

    2. if you would know how rav falk זצ"ל spoke then you would not have come to the aforementioned conclusion. it just wasn't his type to say 'it's אסור', but to rather explain, on a level that women and girl could relate to, why it's bad
in any case, in his safer for men he writes clearly that it is totally אסור, in לבושה של תורה פרק כח

  14. After much arguing and back and forth we can conclude that this is not a simple issue. Your LOR should be consulted and follow whatever he tells you.
R' Moshe is pretty clear that there is no problem with these sheitels. However other poskim argue, therefore there is definitely a makom to be machmir.
It is not straight out ossur.
Kol korehs need to be taken with a large grain of salt, as is obvious to anyone who wasn't born yesterday

  15. I don't see how wearing a sheitel that looks so real you can't tell it isn't a woman's own hair would be muttar. Even the sheitels that are obviusly sheitels (to our trained eyes, goyim don't even realize they're sheitels) should be problematic when they are immodestly styled, like very long etc.

    1. I also don't see how flipping a switch on Shabbos is 'work', but shlepping piles of tables and chairs isn't.

I also don't see why Hashem cares if I put a little parmesan into my bolognese sauce.

I also know that my 'understanding' makes little difference in actual halacha. If Reb Moshe was mattir it, and nobody actually managed to write a coherent Teshuva against it, it is muttar.

  16. Trying to understand the issue to see a married woman’s scalp. (As in the suppose it letter)
Saar b’isha ervah means just that: Saar as in Hair.
If a women is bald why must she cover her “Head”???
    No Ervah No covering???
Thus, even if the ‘part’ is see through - if there is no hair there in theory the bald scalp does not have to be covered..
    Any comments?

  22. After reading the comments, I would suggest that you all listen to the clip of this Rav. His main point is that There can be disagreement but it has to be respectfully. He repeats this several times. Reading some of the comments here it's really baffling to the mind The way people can use their words here. Please simply listen to the clip. It is the most reasonable thing I have heard in many years regarding difference of opinions. This is what we need to understand. This could and should be bisholom and bisholva. Again that's his main point. I beg you all to listen to a reasonable sensible person.
