Tidbit for Maftir This Week

 Have Kavana for Zechiras Amalek

This week the maftir  Parshas Ki Seitzei is about Zechiras Amalek what we read yearly on Parshas Zachor. The mitzva is to remember about it once a year. Since  this coming year is a leap year it will be 13 months from last Shabbos zachor to the coming parshas Zachor. The Chasam Sofer explains that the annual reading suffices. The reason for this is that human nature of forgetting after a year does not depend solely on the elapsed time, but even on the passage of the seasonal events that pass us by yearly.

Nevertheless, The Maharam Schick (Mitzvos, no. 604) writes that the Chasam Sofer himself  ordered his disciples on leap years to have intention to fulfill the mitzvah of remembering Amalek with the torah reading of Ki Teitzei. This ensures that a twelve-month period will not elapse without a reading of the chapter.

Submitted: People Davening in Shuls that have a Bar Mitzva Bachur Getting Maftir, should have Kavanah by Sh'vii!  (Al Pi Rabbi Felder shlita)

Trump Tweets

Former President Donald Trump posted to X (formerly Twitter) for the first time since he was banned from the platform in January 2020.Trump tweeted an image of his mug shot, with captions "ELECTION INTERFERENCE" and "NEVER SURRENDER!"

Media sources say Trump's team had discussed the former president's mug shot prior to him taking it at the Fulton County jail Thursday evening, two sources familiar with the discussions tell me. Trump ultimately decided he wanted to appear "defiant" in the shot, and purposefully chose not to smile

Guardian report - Donald Trump’s hostility shines through in the mugshot taken at the Fulton county jail as he was booked on charges of trying to steal the 2020 presidential election.
The former president turns his eyes up to glare toward the camera above him.
Dressed in a blue suit, white shirt and red tie, he makes no attempt to put on a smile like some of his co-accused in their booking photos. Instead, his mouth is taut and downturned.
The picture does not flatter, but it does convey the message many of Trump’s supporters want to hear – one of belligerence.

Statement from Agudath Yisroel:

Boruch Dayan Ha'emes. Agudath Israel of America is devastated at the loss today of one of the great Torah leaders of our generation, Rav Aharon Schechter, zt”l. Rav Schechter was Rosh HaYeshiva of Yeshiva and Mesivta Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin, and a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah for decades.  "There are no words. We are reeling,” said Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel, executive vice president of Agudath Israel. “Rav Schechter was a true exemplar of da'as Torah, and a tangible link to the Torah and hashkofah of his great Rebbe, the Rosh HaYeshiva Rav Yitzchok Hutner zt’l. His involvement in the many needs of Klal Yisroel was legendary. The entire Jewish world has suffered a terrible blow with his death.”

The levaya is scheduled for 12:45 pm in Brooklyn at Yeshiva Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin, 1585 Coney Island Avenue, between Avenues L and M). May we share besoros tovos.

Matzav.com- Rav Schechter was born in 1928 in Brooklyn, NY, a son of R’ Yossel (Joe) and Rose Schechter. R’ Yossel was one of the stalwart baalei batim in the East New York section of the city.

In his youth, Rav Schechter studied at Yeshiva Toras Chaim, led by Rav Isaac Schmidman, whom he credited for providing him with a Torah-true chinuch that was a rarity at the time. Even years later, Rav Schechter would speak of Rav Schmidman and his efforts to provide a Yiddishe education to the youngsters then, paying tribute to him as a pioneer whose influence changed the trajectory of the lives of those youths, including Rav Aharon.

After elementary school, Rav Schechter joined Mesivta Yeshiva Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin. Rav Schechter’s reputation as a brilliant ben Torah grew, earning him the admiration and respect of his fellow talmidim and the rabbeim.

Rav Schechter ultimately became a close talmid of the rosh yeshiva, Rav Yitzchok Hutner. Rav Hutner nurtured the young, budding talmid chochom.

- OLS report says  that Lakewood Lakewood school district’s excess costs of $9.7 million for  Reimbursement of Nonpublic School Transportation Costs represented 60 percent of the total excess costs.

- Several websites reporting on Lakewood have called out a report on another site as 'false" that states Lakewood would have to come up with as much as an additional $3.8 million to fund aid-in-lieu and transportation for tens of thousands of private-school children, after the state raised the figure from $1,022 to $1,165 per student.  LNN reports "The claim is wrong. The additional $143 per child will be fully funded by the state. Local BOE contribution to aid-in-lieu and transportation is capped at $710 per student. Any additional costs are borne by the state. To be sure, Lakewood’s demographics present unique funding challenges. But the false narratives must be stopped.

- R' Aaron Lang reacts on Twitter: For 20 yrs the DOE can't figure out Lakewood's funding. The commissioner needs more time. - The $3.4 Million that Lakewood township gave fron the municipal tax dollars to the BOE for non mandated services is more than the $3 Million tax increase that was approved by Ray Coles and the committee on Lakewood tax payers. More upsetting the township gave away over $5 Million in tax abatements this year alone and the tax increase would not have been necessary.
