    1. Amuhl there were no weddings during the second half of sefira which has a lot more of a mekor not to get married than during Elul. From my end I need all the zchoyos I can get before Rosh Hashana. Simchas Choson V'kalla included. If the bnos yisroel went dancing in vineyards on Yom Kippur for shidduch purposes you can surely can get married during Elul. Why not get another zchus of being boneh bayis and get married in Elul? (I do agree that if you are the type who is so serious that you wouldn't go online for hock purposes during elul then getting married may be inappropriate too)

    2. Acc to several sources they Didn't.
It would have been Very inappropriate.
The Simcha was of an entirely different kind Though both days are conflated.

      Only ON tu b'av

    3. Are you confusing Elul with the Eseras Yemey Teshuva? Some have the minhag to extend that which the Poskim say about not getting married during the Eseras Yemey Teshuva to all of the Yemey Selichos but not to all of Elul! See the Sdei Chemed Maareches Chosson Vikallah Siman 23. The Sdei Chemed who was a sephardi and said selichos all Elul long got married in Elul . (he explicitly rejects the tzad that sephardim shouldn't get married all Elul because they say selichos) He writes further that he (with his phenomenal bekius!) doesn't know of any mekor for not getting married in Elul. He wrote to major Askenazi gedolim who wrote back that they are unaware of such a minhag either. He (inter alia) points out further the mishna in Yoma which talks about a kalla who got married in the past thirty days washing her face is a clear indication that people got married in Elul back then. 4. For individual Bnei Aliya and perhaps individual chaburas and yeshiva of Bnei Aliyah it may not be correct to get married in Elul. Halevie there would be many more of them and I would be one! But l'maaseh it is also very incorrect to say that all or most of Klal Yisroel should adopt such an hanhaga in itself.

  2. The mazel of Elul is bisula. Adaraba - weddings should be in Elul. See Mishne brura

  3. Terrible every year the same story, 30 still don't have a high school. The Lakewood mosdos gave a responsibility as a collective unit and yet this problem always exists.

And no, not all 30 are hard cases, some of them in fact will do great perhaps better than their peers.

This is Lakewood's one glaring tragedy.

    1. Sane story every year . There are a few schools that have place ,but some parents only want achools that are so full ,they almost have kids sitting in the hallways. It makes no sense that a school that has close to 50 kids per class should be pushed to take more kids when there are several good school with empty desks .

  8. If those schools are takka so good why don’t you take your daughter out of the class with 50 kids and send her to one of those schools? Ah so it’s only good enough for yennem and then I could complain that my daughters school has to take in their kids.

  9. Probably 40 or 45 of those 50 kids are siblings . They might be a lot shvacher than the other kids without a school but siblings got a kedima.its takke not fair but thats the way it is . If siblings didnt have a kedima then probably most of those kids without a school would be in and sone if these siblings wpukd gave to to the newer schools .
