Can someone explain the practical ramifications of this? Does it mean that if someones income goes up he can stay on SNAP EBT until next recertification?

    1. FYI, this new law, only applies to households in which every adult is elderly and/or disabled.

  2. I don't know the number of high schools in Lakewood . But there are probably enough, so everyone could take one girl, so technically this should not be called a crisis, if anything it's an ego crisis

    1. more like if everyone would take 2 girls that would cover all 30.

    2. Not enough girl schools

    3. There are at least 2 good girls high schools that had room to make another class or take more girls . But some parents just would not even apply.

    4. There are enough schools . Some schools just need more applicants. In Lakewood, its follow the crowd. Even if a school is good ,but its not the in school, then parents dont apply .

School owners and administrators never fail to impress. After passing all entrance exams and social requirements I was told if you can't pay our price we have plenty other applicants. For the news zmam I was told by some wonderful human being to go collecting if I can't afford the tuition.

    1. It's either them collecting the shortfall or getting full tuition. In addition to it being a private enterprise. Not sure why they should undertake additional fundraising when they've parents able to pay in full. Seems fair to me that you should make up the difference.

  8. I don’t have a problem with them getting more than $320 a month but why should they have more than the average working guy and then we have to cover their bills by helping the yeshivas raise them and support the yt programs etc?

    1. You're right.
The Yeshivaleit, when they were receiving $320 per month, were living it up. Vacations, fancy cars, expensive food, lavish simchos. The Yungeleit were living the high life, and the poor baalebatim were suffering. Now that the check increased, oy are they having a party.

  9. You want more than $320 a month? No problem go out to work and earn it. Don’t expect me to pay you to sit in yeshiva and hock about the terrible balabatim! Or even worse to post comments on hv. It’s not you who we celebrated at adirei hatorah.

    ReplyDelete

    1. something tells me that you have never given a penny to pay anyone to sit in any yeshiva in your life. since you don't give anyway, you don't get to have a daya.

  12. The balabatim I know aren’t taking lavish vacations or driving fancy cars. It’s the yungeleit that get an extremely discounted vacation while us balabatim can’t get away for two days with our kids. I’m not talking gevirim, I mean regular middle class hardworking people which is most working people you know.

    1. Please stop with the "mai ahani lan rabbanan". My husband is a yungerman and we didn't take any vacation at all. I took 1 day off of work to play with my kids at a local park. Most kollel families that I know are living at a lower standard of living than the working families I know, both in terms of fixed and variable expenses. Admittedly the life of a working man is far more stressful though.

      Delete
    2. so what exactly do you want to happen? are you looking for a handout? i also am a hardworking balhabos and i can't afford to go on a real vacation but i don't expect others to give me stuff and i am able to fargin others.

    3. That the former comment is from a woman is improbable

    4. Sorry that was offensive. I am in fact a woman. I'm not looking for a handout at all. Just to set the facts straight

  14. The entire discussion is extremely distasteful.

The baaleboss who eats meat every day is not taking it away from the Yungerman. And the Yungerman who receives a subsidized vacation is not taking that away from the 'hardworking' baaleboss.

There is no conflict, why is somebody trying to stir one up?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I’m 100% pro those who are learning but the resentment towards them from some seems to come from the whole propaganda that portrays all rebbeim and everyone learning in Kollel as doing so with tremendous mesirus nefesh on a gasmiush level. This isn’t the 1960s or even the 1990s anymore. It frequently just isn’t true. Many rebbeim and those in Kollel are in fact living with a higher standard of living than those who aren’t . Therefore there is such resentment towards those who claim otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  16. You made an assumption that the balabus is eating meat every day, where did you get that from? I’m talking about regular balabatim who don’t eat meat more often than most yungeleit and maybe even less. Secondly why did you put hardworking in quotes? Are you suggesting they are not working hard? Typical stereotype by the guy in kollel who thinks anyone working sits on their recliner and millions of dollars just roll into his bank account. Most wealthy people work hard too and certainly the middle class.

    ReplyDelete
  17. This last comment hit the nail on the head! Exactly my point yungeleit and rebbeim today are doing better than the average balabus in many ways.

    ReplyDelete
  18. These arguments are very sad, as they keep on happening, and I think the reason is, we don't have a good framework for working men, if they
Would have learning programs mornings and at night it would not feel so much like us vs them

  21. But why does anyone care who is doing better?
It is not on your expense, leave them alone

This umfarginshaft, from all sides, is repugnant.

If you see a yungerman/baaleboss enjoying life, be happy for him. How nice that he is enjoying a vacation! Why the commentary?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sure it is at my expense.
    1. Bmg wants me to give them money
    2. My kids want the same vacations as their friends whose father is in yeshiva.

    1. 1. Bmg wants me to give them money

You have a choice - either give, or don't. Running your mouth off doesn't make any sense.

      2. My kids want the same vacations as their friends whose father is in yeshiva.

Either focus on teaching your kids (and yourself) to be משמח בחלקם, or relocate to a place where there are fewer vacations going on.

    2. Running elsewhere is weak.
We are responsible for a better collective

  23. Why should I leave Lakewood? Maybe yungeleit today should live the way I did when I was a yungerman and thousands of others did actually learning with mesiras nefesh. Not only did we not get free vacations, not only did we not get subsidized clothing and food before yt we didn’t even get a kollel check which was pennies compared to what it is today!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Is this a logical argument? There is zero focus on what's better - just outright comparison and jealousy.

List the pros and cons. of your argument.

      Delete
  24. Why is it not logical to expect a yungerman to live the way they used to? Why should a yungerman be getting a free vacation and subsidized food and clothing? If the idea is just to help other yidden who don’t have a lot there are thousands of “balabtim” struggling even more.

    ReplyDelete
  25. This thread is a blight on the community.

People have expectations of others, then they have logic to back their expectations.

How about minding your own business? How about not having or offering opinions into how another person lives his life? How about looking into your own plate, and nobody else's?

If a Yungerman has a vacation, he didn't take it from you. Why is it your business?

    ReplyDelete
  26. He did take it from me. I also want a free vacation
