Rav Brog is an ish emes. Every word he preaches is the truth. It's hard to hear but what he is saying is the reality.

  4. What’s the latest with the shul expansion in wg? Will there be a rayze ut campaign that the oilam could help jumpstart the project?

    1. That would be amazing! If they could get each person to give $1 for $1 against what was collected to get the lawyer to fight the shul, that would be a good start.

  6. Be aware the girls schools will be ending much later than usual next year despite it being a leap year the school calender ends late June

  7. Let girls start late why push them right after camp they need a break. Those parents pushing for kids to start early should schedule their vacation to coincide with the school schedule.
It's nice that they vacation all year whenever they want but when it's inconvenient it becomes the schools peoblem

    1. Certainly, pushing back the girls' school year start is logical, especially considering the potential additional year proposed by the Rabbonim to tackle the shidduch crisis. A shorter school day would also be an improvement.

  9. Some parents never vacation and most that do don’t take that many weeks vacation! If you’re in BMG and on food stamps this might work for you but for those that work for a living it doesn’t work.

    1. Chutzpah, the olam on food stamps and bmg do not go on vacation all year like the Balei batim
The summer is the only time

    2. Is the reason the BMG yungerman's life doesn't count because he is learning in BMG? Or because he receives foodstamps?

Many bal habatim can't afford vacations and do not go all year around either. Don't be fooled by the ads you see. Most of us can't afford it. And we don't get subsidized Poconos vacations nor 3 weeks off to "hitzga". We work on Sundays and Fridays too even as accountants.

  10. It's an excuse to keep status quo with regards to shidduch crisis.

By the way, Syrians don't do mundane things like volunteer for things like Shomrim.
They farm it out to off duty cops in Flatbush and Deal.
You have to buy a sticker for your window, though the patrol knows whose house is Syrian and who's isn't.

  11. Sorry if I touched a raw nerve but there are balei batim that never vacation even in the summer. For two reasons 1. They don’t get a free or discounted vacation like the yungeleit 2. They have to work and can’t just disappear for a few weeks. These are facts that may not be known to some in kolel, I know you think everyone who works has more money than you and they go on many lavish vacations but that’s not the reality in the vast majority of people.

    1. Schools are there to teach children, not to facilitate your important 'work'.
If they end up with hardly any time to prepare children for Rosh Hashana, we have a problem.

If schools weren't such wimps, they could change the schedule. The camps would moan and whine, and then they would adapt. The world wouldn't come to an end.

    1. They farm it out to a private security company which hires mostly off duty cops. They've been doing it long before Shomrim was formed

  13. Dear Fundraiser,
You called me for years, I was always responsive to your requests. It was habitual. Every year you called, every year I responded. A receipt was sent, I helped fellow Yidden, you were successful at your Job, I was doing my hishtadlus.
Hard times fell recently. You called. I didn’t pick up. You called again, I picked up and brushed you off. It’s Painful, super painful to say No. I’m hoping, or I say I was hoping that a professional like you will understand the lack of response and take as they say - the Hint. No, no hint taken.
You called again. Again. Again. Until I said outright I’m sorry I can’t give this year. All fine, right ? Out comes a letter stating that we have to be nice to you - the fundraisers. Fundraisers are just doing their job. We should act like a mensch. Really? Want to act like a mentch? Take the social que and understand that if somebody pushes you off a few times, that it might actually be a NO. Especially in these times. Especially if he always gave. Especially if you’re a professional and understand how to read people. After all, it is your job. My pain of saying NO is way more painful than you receiving a NO. It’s just your job to collect, it was my happiness and Simcha to have the ability to give. That simcha is not there now, albeit iyh temporarily, but understand, truly understand, grasp it - a NO is not always necessarily spelled out as NO.

    1. Maybe you should be a man and just say that you will not be giving this year, please try again next year. Not everyone is good at getting social cues.

  16. I enjoy reading Hefkervelt, and get news in a concise way.

I often enjoy reading the comments, for their various benefits.

However, I hate reading the gripes of people who feel a need to pretend as if there's a fight and schism among Torah Jews, based upon how they get their lechem/food. A ben Torah who learns in BMG or a ben Torah who doesn't learn in BMG (the way I like to view myself) are on the same team! That's how most feel.

Why do we have to imagine all sorts of gripes, sour grapes and kvetching about every issue? If the school year has become too long for you, then perhaps there's a unique solution for you?
Most parents would prefer a longer school year.
Most teachers would prefer a shorter school year.
Most parents and teachers would prefer that the teachers get paid a living wage.
Most parents and teachers would prefer that tuition is affordable.
When teachers don't get paid a living wage, they prefer the shorter school year so that they supplement their income with a summer job.

If someone made a griping/stupid comment about a longer school year, can we leave it at that? Do we know what their motivation is? Do we need to fight back and match them tit for tat?
