Harav Aharon Feldman Shlita at Agudah Convention: Eretz Hakodesh Joining WZO Violated what Gedolei Torah said A Charedi Jew Should Never Do

Keynote Speech at the virtual Agudah Convention this motzei Shabbos.
See full video and partial transcript below.

"Eretz Hakodesh purports are received  from Gedolei yisroel for its actions. I and many others do not believe this. Eretz Hakodesh has now made it possible for the charedi public to believe that the whole opposition of gedolei yisrael to joining and cooperating with Zionism has been somehow rendered  null and void it has made it possible for a charedi public to believe that reform is a legitimate expression of Judaism.
To be sure Eretz Hakodesh hoped by joining the Zionists to garner funds for Jewish education and to fight the reform in Israel however it should be obvious that money is not a reason for compromising the foundational principles for which we stand. Had eretz hakodesh publicly refused to identify with the Zionism program and  to legitimized the reform it would have done much more for Judaism than the money it hoped to receive

The opposition of gedolei Torah to Herzl's vision was uncompromising from its very beginning the chofetz chaim said he rather lose a majority of the yeshivos than join forces with the Zionist Jewish agencey... Absent the centrality of Torah there is no Jewish people. The gedolim therefore held that "al tischaber larasha" do not join an evildoer applies to  Zionism we are not allowed to join their organization. The position of gedolei yisrael has never changed any definition of Judaism which does not revolve solely around Hashem giving us the Torah at Sinai is fraudulent and we must reject it. Zionism was successful in creating a state and we support the people living in that state and care deeply about their welfare and security and we will do everything in our powers to strengthen theese but never will we  accept the philosophy which led to the state and continues as its underpinning. If charedi Jews are a member of the Knesset this is because they are forced to do so as citizens of a country they must have representation in the governing body in order to protect their interest or else they will be legislated out of existence. However no charedi member of Knesset will say that he has accepted the Zionist ideology. In line with the views of gedolai yisrael

Agudas yisrael issued a statement a few weeks ago deploring statements made by various organization and various newspaper columnists claiming that the ideology  of Zionism  has been accepted by charedi Jews. The reason for this claim was that Eretz Hakodesh an organization comprised of charedi jews recently became a member of the World Zionist Organization. When the membership of Eretz Hakodesh was challenged in a tribunal of the American Zionist movement with a charge  that Eretz Hakodesh is not a truly a Zionist group Eretz Hakodesh defended itself by stating that it believes in the goals of  Zionism as expressed in the Zionist program and that furthermore all the American charedi Jews who voted for it believe in it as well. This program states that Zionism is a national liberation movement of the Jewish people and that the state of Israel is central to the life of the nation. The program ignores the centrality of Torah to the life of the Jewish nation and instead makes a secular state which does not recognize Torah or G-d as its centrality. It is this program which Eretz Hakodesh proclaimed that it had accepted. With this it violated what the chofetz Chaim and Rav Chaim brisker and a century of gedolei torah said that  a charedi Jew should never do. In addition Eretz Hakodesh signed an agreement along with all Zionist reform and conservative movements in the WZO in which all signatories pledged a true partnership to advance our common goals on behalf of the Jewish people and its  state". Eretz Hakodesh has agreed to the allocation of funds which supports the assimilationist and heretical goals of reform and conservative Judaism as long as Eretz Hakodesh too receives its share of the allocation pie. By joining with the reform movement it violates a  stated position of the gedolei hador of America issued  70 years ago prohibiting any identification with  and certain acquiescence to reform movements. Eretz Hakodesh purports are received  from Gedolei yisroel for its actions. All of this stems from a failure by Eretz Hakodesh to have defined for themselves what a charedi Jew is. We are a nation dedicated to serve Hashem by keeping his Torah.

Junior Chafetz Chaim Book Review

 The Guy Behind The Counter

Israel Bookshop’s Junior Chafetz Chaim is a breakthrough in furthering Shemiras Halashon. Sefer Chafetz Chaim is the foundational work on Shemiras Halashon, it is the sefer that gave the Chafetz Chaim his name for eternity. Everyone knows how important shemiras halashon is and how terrible Lashon Harah is. Many have a seder to learn two halachos a day utilizing the schedule promulgated by the Manchester Rosh Yeshivah, Rav Yehuda Zev Segal zt”l. Rav Segal testified that “there is no family in the world that studies the laws of shemiras halashon and has not seen some sort of yeshuah in their lives”.

U.S. Supreme Court Grants Injunction Overturning NY Restrictions on Houses of Worship

Minutes before midnight the Supreme Court temporarily blocked Gov. Andrew Cuomo from setting capacity limits at houses of worship in certain state-designated coronavirus hot spots after Agudah and the Diocese applied for injunctions earlier this month to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In a 5-4 decision, the nation’s highest court sided with the  Orthodox Jewish synagogues and Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn that sued the governor over the state-imposed caps in areas declared red and orange zones.

“Even in a pandemic, the Constitution cannot be put away and forgotten,” the unsigned opinion said. "The restrictions at issue here, by effectively barring many from attending religious services, strike at the very heart of the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty.”

Hamodia.com reports - The U.S. Supreme Court has granted an injunction overturning New York’s restrictions on houses of worship as an infringement on religious liberties, in a ruling handed down minutes before midnight on Thanksgiving Eve.

“Even in a pandemic, the Constitution cannot be put away and forgotten,” read the unsigned 5-4 ruling. “The restrictions at issue here, by effectively barring many from attending religious services, strike at the very heart of the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty.”

I never signed a retainer agreement or sent the President or the campaign a bill for my expenses or fees. My intent has always been to expose all the fraud I could find and let the chips fall where they may--whether it be upon Republicans or Democrats. The evidence I'm compiling is overwhelming that this software tool was used to shift millions of votes from President Trump and other Republican candidates to Biden and other Democrat candidates. We are proceeding to prepare our lawsuit and plan to file it this week. JHS: The Life of Rav Aharon Kotler Part II: Rebuilding Anew

 Part 1 here
As the Yeshiva in Kletzk grew, a building was built and dedicated and Rav Aharon had to travel to the United States to fundraise. Aside from being the youngest and yet one of the most prominent Roshei Yeshiva at the time, he also rose to be among the leadership of the Polish Agudas Yisroel, participating in the third Knessia Gedolah in Marienbad in 1937. With the outbreak of the War, Kletzk fled to Vilna along with most other Yeshivas at the time. Ultimately settling in Yanova, with the Soviet takeover of the Baltic States in the summer of 1940 the Yeshiva dispersed to several Lithuanian shtetls with Rav Aharon and the largest group in Salock. By the end of 1940 the Sovietization of Lithuania made it difficult to maintain the continuation of the Yeshiva. Rav Aharon felt that he'd be able to accomplish more from the outside headed out of the Soviet Union in February 1941, arriving in Penn Station in New York City in April of that year. Though he threw himself full time into the rescue work of the Vaad Hatzalah, Rav Aharon emerged as an overall rabbinical leader on the American Orthodox scene. In 1942 Rav Nosson Wachtfogel along with a group of like minded friends, founded a kollel in White Plains, NY, eventually inviting Rav Aharon Kotler to serve as its head. With the move a year later to the resort town of Lakewood, New Jersey the American Torah world would be transformed forever.

JHS: The Life of Rav Aharon Kotler: Origins of Greatness - part 1

Though he came from an illustrious rabbinic family, Rav Aharon Kotler (1891-1962) was faced with the challenge of being orphaned from both parents as a child. After a brief stint in Krinik, he arrived in Minsk where he formed a lifelong friendship with Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky and Rav Reuven Grozovsky. With his arrival in Slabodka, he enjoyed a closeness with the Alter of Slabodka, while also attending the shiurim of Rav Baruch Ber Leibowitz in the other Slabodka Yeshiva.

His marriage to Rebbetzin Chana Perl, the daughter of Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer, firmly ensconced him in a career as a teacher of Torah. After an initial commencement as a Rebbi in Slutzk, the Soviet takeover and repression forced him to cross the border and reestablish the Yeshiva in Kletzk in 1921.

Lakewood Voters say NO to Legalize Marijuana but Township Did Not Ban the Sale Yet

Out of 26,364 Lakewood residents  who voted on question #1 Do you approve amending the Constitution to legalize a controlled form of marijuana called “cannabis” , 18,237 or 70%  voted  NO  while 8,127 or 30% voted yes. The state will formally legalize it on January 1. Many towns near Lakewood have passed ordnances banning the sale of Marijuana or running businesses that sell it.

However in an interview last year with the Lakewood shopper newspaper the Lakewood mayor Ray Coles said  Marijuana should be legalized in the long term in Lakewood but a lot of things have to fall into place. There were some proposals to have a area of medical Marijuana but no licenses were issued. Other committeemen an interview with The Voice of Lakewood  said they would ban the sale of THC and weed in Lakewood but have not acted on it yet.

As the state of NJ prepares to legalize weed and Marijuana 60 towns in NJ have passed  ordinances banning the sale of Marijuana. If legalization does happen, these towns would not be able to prevent residents who are at least 21 year old from possessing small amounts of weed and using it in a private residence. But they can prevent marijuana businesses from growing and selling in their limits.

JHS: Rav Dovid Feinstein ZT"L The Early Years

Audio begins at 0:9:10

The passing of Rav Dovd Feinstein (1929-2020) is a great loss to the Jewish world. With his simplicity, able leadership and as a senior posek in all halachic matters, he will not be easily replaced. Rav Dovid was born in Luban in the Soviet Union, where his father Rav Moshe was the Rabbi. Under communist rule, his parents maintained a strong Jewish home and he remained one of the last communal rabbis in all of Russia in ever trying conditions. By 1936 the future for his children's Torah education seemed quite bleak, and it was for that reason that Rav Moshe decided to leave Russia. With his eventual settlement on the Lower East Side, Rav Moshe and later Rav Dovid would ultimately become synonymous with the neighborhood, the Yeshiva MTJ and with the leadership of the American Torah community.
