President Trump Responds to Letter From Jersey City Cheder

Hamodia.com
On January 9, 2020, the highest grade of the the Cheder of Jersey City wrote a letter to President Trump, thanking him for his words of comfort that he sent following the attack on the grocery store located in the nearby building, and for the flag he sent them following the tragic incident. The class wished President Trump success in leading the country, and wished him luck for the next four years.

President Trump responded with a letter addressed to Rabbi Lazier Breuer, the principal of the Cheder, expressing his feelings when hearing firsthand about the abhorrent anti-Semitic act, and pledging to work to stamp out such hateful intolerance everywhere in America. He complimented the community on its resilience and how they came together with bonds of faith and family to rebuild the neighborhood and their lives.

What's a scratch kitchen?
Running a “scratch kitchen” takes a lot of work, planning, and preparation. ... Typically, a scratch kitchen is one where all recipes, dishes and products are produced from raw ingredients. This means every element of the dish, including the tasks necessary to produce it, are executed start to finish without shortcuts.
They are in the very early stages and they are looking for a line cook.

Lakewood Taxpayers to Vote on Referendum to Approve Loan for Public School building

At the BOE meeting last night in Lakewood district officials announced plans to build a permanent structure for the pre school either at the Oak street school or Clifton Avenue school. There are currently 500 students in the pre school  and schools are at a capacity with 6200 students and growing. The board will have to borrow money to build since there is nothing in the budget to pay for it.

Pre School in NJ are not mandated, districts do not have to provide it neither is it mandatory for children to attend but many districts offer it sponsored by the state through the pre School grant.

A Referendum will be placed on the ballot this November  during the general elections asking taxpayers  to approve or disapprove on  the loan. The amount is not currently known but the process has started and by August there should be a notice of the costs.

A member of the public asked why the district could not have used the Princeton avenue building for the public school. The attorney said that the requirements did not allow the building to be used for public school classrooms and the district sold the building at the time when they were in a deficit.

The board also had a presentation updating what it will do in case of the coronavirus coming.

NJ.com Removes Comment section From Site

The NJ.com website has removed the ability to comment on their news stories and articles. As of this morning all previous comments have been removed. "We understand this will be upsetting to some of the people who read and post comments, but our editors will continue working to find the best ways to engage and hear your voice, an article said.

Others said as NJ braces for congressional  elections there are some toss up districts and the media is attempting to keep it by the democrats by silencing those on the right.

HaRav Feldman Shlita: Forbidden to vote and join WZO

A Letter from Rabbi Aharon Feldman shlita Rosh Yeshiva Of Yeshivas Ner Yisrael Baltimore Dated February 16, 2020

In reply to your question regarding voting in the World Zionist Organization election:
My opinion is that a jew is forbidden to declare that he is a member, or ascribes to  a  program, of an organization whose platform fails to recognize that the Jewish nation is a nation which received the Torah  at mount Sinai. Such a deceleration is a chilul Hashem and may not be made no matter what material or spiritual benefits will thereby accrue.

New Jersey Raises Terror Threat Level for White Supremacist Extremists to High

New Jersey Homeland Security officials have increased the threat level for white supremacist extremists to its highest level possible, according to a new report.

The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness has boosted the threat level from white supremacy groups from moderate — where it was listed in 2019 — to high for 2020, the new report released Friday reads. The only other group to receive that dubious distinction are homegrown violent extremists.

The decision to put white supremacists at the highest possible level comes after a number of threats and attacks in 2019, including the El Paso attack that left 22 people dead and two dozen more injured. In New Jersey, a man allegedly conspired with members of a neo-Nazi network to vandalize synag

Lakewood PS Teachers Sign up Teach STEM in Yeshivas, Meeting tomorrow

"The emphasis on STEM education has grown in recent years as the digital economy has increased demand for ever-higher technical skills among graduates joining the workforce. Much of Lakewood’s local economy has traditionally been based on lower-skilled light manufacturing work. Kotler said tech companies have been starting up, and “the vision for Lakewood has been to move beyond light manufacturing.”

Tomorrow  Tuesday morning 10:30 am  the Lakewood school district will host a meeting at the High School for parents of the 36,500 children in private schools, and representatives from among the 127 yeshivas informing  and seeking consultation about the new STEM grant program for public school teachers. A Photo Id Will Be Required To Access The Building

The new grant program  will pay public school teachers to moonlight teaching STEM classes in private schools.  The Department of Education will provide a total of $5 million in grants to pay teachers who have voluntarily opted to register for the program and have worked out a scheduling agreement with their own public school district and the private school that wants to hire him or her to teach a limited number of classes involving science, technology, engineering or math

.NJ.com reports  The Lakewood Public School District is leading Ocean County by far in the number of teachers who have made themselves available to private schools by registering for the STEM grant program with the Ocean County superintendent of schools. Of the 16 Ocean County teachers who have registered for program, 15 of them are from Lakewood, according to the district.

“We’re adding thousands of children a year to the community, and we need teachers,” said Rabbi Aaron Kotler, a leader of the local Orthodox community and president and CEO of Beth Medrash Gavoha, or BMG, a university-level yeshiva.

Man with Leukemia meets Stranger from Lakewood New Jersey who Donated Bone Marrow

ABC7- A man fighting leukemia finally met the stranger from New Jersey who donated bone marrow to help save his life. The two men had the chance to meet for the first time at a bone marrow gala on Thursday night. Bone marrow recipient Scott Novorr said he owes his life to Binyomin Gewirez.

"I wouldn't be here, we had run out of treatment options," Novorr said. "Life expectancy for this type of leukemia is not long. It's two, three, four years at best." Novorr and Gewirez, who is from Lakewood, New Jersey, had never met, never spoke and lived 1,000 miles apart.

Novorr was diagnosed in 2014. By 2018 he desperately needed a bone marrow transplant.
Finding a match took months, but it felt like years.

Optimum Hikes Monthly Rates in Sneaky Move

The monthly bill for Optimum online has gone up a $14.50 per month
Optimum hiked the prices of its internet and TV plans this month, and many customers have been finding out thanks to the arrival of surprisingly high bills.

TV packages jumped up as much as $30 per month, according to Consumer Reports. Internet prices are going up as well, with the basic “Optimum Online” service jumping up at least $25 per month.

Existing subscribers won’t see such dramatic hikes. A spokesperson for Altice, which runs Optimum, tells The Verge that existing subscribers’ monthly bills will rise by no more than $14.50 per month, regardless of what’s in their package. The much higher rates are only being given to new customers.

His whole life was about learning Torah B'ameilus. About teaching Torah to others. About drawing others, Krovim and Rechokim, close with his warmth and infectious Ahavas Torah. Rav Dovid was elevated, and he tried to elevate us all with him. Until today, his Daf Yomi Shiurim continue to reach thousands of people all over the world. We are spearheading a campaign to build a Bais Medrash, Nachlas Dovid of Lakewood, in his name. This Bais Medrash will house three Kollelim. Under the direction of Rabbi Grossman's son, Rav Chaim Grossman, the building will serve illustrious Talmidei Chachomim and

Mesivta Acceptance Season in Lakewood

There are close to 1200 boys graduating 8th grade this year and most will be going locally to the 35 plus mesivtos in Lakewood. A small percentage of  boys go out of town. On average most bar mitzva boys apply to 3-4 mesivtos due to the high demand to get in. The farhers started 2 weeks ago and continue over next week. Boys have to decide quickly once they get accepted. There is about 70 more boys than open slots for this coming year.

LFD Elections: Vote on Budget this Motzei Shabbos Tax increase

The fire district elections will take place this Saturday Feb 15 starting at 2 pm  until 10:00 pm or longer if necessary at municipal hall.
The Lakewood Fire District budget is almost at 7 Million dollars annually  ($6,915,734 to be exact) an increase of  $300,000 from the previous year of 6.6 million. In a statement the district said the old engines have become obsolete and cost prohibitive. The project is anticipated to have a "minimal impact on the tax rate" according to the district as the old engines will be sold or traded in to offset the costs.

Facebook Removes RUOC Page Permanently

The Rise Up Ocean County Facebook page has been shut down. The group is still active on their website and other social media platforms and has filed an appeal with Facebook to have the page republished

Joint Statement by Governor Murphy and Attorney General Gurbir Grewal on Facebook’s Removal of  Rise up Ocean County.

We just learned that Facebook has decided to take down the public page on the company’s social network called ‘Rise Up Ocean County.’ Facebook’s action comes ten months after the Director of our Division on Civil Rights, Rachel Wainer Apter, first sent a letter to Facebook expressing concerns about racist and anti-Semitic statements on the page. Since then, we’ve consistently and repeatedly made clear our view that the page appeared to violate Facebook’s terms of service, and we appreciate that Facebook has now decided that this kind of hateful rhetoric has no place on its platform.

Jackson: Multicultural Committee to dialog with Religious community

A Initiative from the mayor of Jackson, NJ

The mayor and Township Council members in Jackson work hard every day to ensure Jackson is the best place to live, work and raise a family. Over the last month, I have been invited to a series of outreach and resilience meetings with various groups and individuals. We discussed multicultural and religious information from around Ocean County.

These meetings included members of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Office of the Attorney General. I had the opportunity to meet and interact with the diverse contingent of residents, local leaders and members of religious faiths.

What I took away from these hours of workshop groups, discussing all sides of cultural importance, is that we as the township need to do much more. We need to do more to get to know each other, to understand each other and to appreciate each individual’s point of view.

Rush Limbaugh announces he has 'advanced lung cancer'

Talk radio king Rush Limbaugh stunned his 20-million member audience Monday with the announcement he's been diagnosed with "advanced lung cancer." The 69-year-old conservative talk pioneer closed his broadcast with the grim news, saying he will be leaving his golden EIB microphone for treatment, but hopes to return soon.

“This day has been one of the most difficult days in recent memory, for me, because I’ve known this moment was coming,” Limbaugh said. “I’m sure that you all know by now that I really don’t like talking about myself and I don’t like making things about me… one thing that I know, that has happened over the 31-plus years of this program is that there has been an incredible bond that had developed between all of you and me.”

The conservative radio icon then told his audience that his job has provided him with the “greatness satisfaction and happiness” of his life.
