  1. Health insurance was left off the expense list. Add that and you’re deep under water….

    1. Cleaning help was not included either. That's needed if both parents are working.
      And clothing for $6,000?

    2. I'm bh a family of 8 and my expenses are about half on every single item.

    1. If both parents are working, then they probably need 2 cars. If they have 6 kids, then they need a minivan which even if you finance a used van will cost about $400 a month, plus gas/tolls, and insurance. Your total will be above 10k.

    2. Yes. 400*12= 4800 add in a 2nd car of 300*12= 3600 add in insurance 300*12=3600 then there is gas (or electric) and tolls and you are closer to 15k a year.

  3. Is the school of their choice not accepting (and they won't budge to another school)? or all schools won't accept them (Hard to believe) ?

  4. What about Ricci ties and Gucci shoes and Hermes belts? In Lakewood those are must haves

    1. That's your problem, don't blame the town. Plenty people in this town have their heads screwed on straight and aren't held hostage by their children.

    2. Just a reminder you're meant to educate your children not have your children educate you. And yes that goes no matter where you bring up your children even in Lakewood.

  5. 7 kids in school we pay close to 100k, 48,000 is way lowballed that means you have no boys in dorm yeshiva. Health, dental adds another 20k. These numbers are unrealistic.

    1. If you have seven kids in Yeshiva in Lakewood, you should not be paying $100,000 per year. No Cheder charges more than $10,000, and at most places you can receive a discount. Girls' schools charge closer to $5,000. This is full tuition.
I send to a dorm Yeshiva and it is about $7,000 per year.

Also, 'full tuition' is an arbitrary number. It is probably much less.

    2. we can shut down the comment section now. 12:44 has shared their experience with us and no one can possibly have a different set of circumstances.
no girl school in Lakewood charges more than 5K. this commenter sends to a dorm and only pays 7K a year so everyone elses tuition bill is just FAKE NEWS!

    3. I don't know about everyone else, but his experience is very similar to mine. I don't have that many kids in school now, but I pay 7,500 for my son in mesivta with a dorm, and 5,500 for my kids in elementary. Regular mainstream schools and I don't qualify for many breaks. Not sure how he's paying 100k for seven kids. That sounds like a lot unless he has two in seminary and is paying more than full for the others. It's possible, but a bit tough to believe.

  6. Which local dorm yeshiva is $7k??? I pay double.

    1. Who said 'local'?
The reason local places charge more, is because they are Beis Hamedrash's and they charge the government for the Pell Grants.

    2. I have three boys in dorm yeshivas mesivta thru Bais midrash some in Lakewood some out of Lakewood. and it’s 20k each kid! (We pay full) also my boys elementary school is above 8,000 already, they’ve been going up every year. And girls high school is mis 7’s. So we are at 92k and that is without the Chavrusa’s for the boys.

    3. $175+ does not qualify for Pell Grants.

  7. Thanks to Torah Umesorah our tuitions went up significantly and parents cant make ends meet while roshei mosdos are flying off to Florida and go for sukkos in Eretz Yisroel

  8. Maybe the authors uncle owns Kayco... (distributors of gefen, Haddar etc...) with yomim tovim and everyday food spending, my bill is definitely 50K a year. Probably substantially higher.

  9. 1:32 1244 has no right to voice an opinion ? I guess because it doesn't shtim with your narrative of pity which you are trying to push.

  10. The eitza is not to ketch. Get your act together and go for Financial Counseling / Therapy.
We as a community can learn a thing or two of living within our means.
If you don't have you don't spend.

    1. Financial counseling won't help when you have expenses that can not be cut, and somehow the CPA left out health insurance which is 20k per year plus dental.

  11. That "protest" against parental alienation is hysterical. Two guys with a sign and a mic don't a protest make.
So far the movement about parental alienation has managed to alienate just about every sane person I know.
I have no idea whether their cause is real or not, but they're not doing a good job of convincing anyone. If it's a real problem, they need to find a better mode of messaging.

  13. We must take action against the kosher food industry who are a monopoly and raised prices that are way out of line. It's time to boycott. Mo one should eat any fleishigs or expensive foods. Eat simple bread and macaroni for a few weeks let the industry feel the pinch that their price increased will not be tolerated.
It can only work if we are all in it together bachdus be noise Beol with fellow yiddin who can't afford this.

Next demand all yeshivos that raised tuition to open their books to the parents with an independent outside auditor.

Time to follow the chasidim and open new communities away from the population centers like Lakewood that are not affordable anymore for housing and young couples

    1. Follow the chassidim?!
They followed us. We built a town, and they came and used the infrastructure that we built.
I fargin them, why not allow a Yid to enjoy the fruits of our labors? We are all one family. But they weren't the Nachshons here.

  16. Rabosai! Past storms have seen casualties from our Kehilla. Take the time to say a kappitel for the Yidden in Florida, Georgia and other places in the path of the storm, that they not suffer at all, not physical or financial harm.

  17. "Out of towner" here, where the cost of living is supposed to be lower. Not so. Full tuition is around 13k for boys elementary and 15k for girls. Mesivta/High school with dorm is 22k. Seminary and post-seminary Degree is 25k + per year. We make about 260k gross, and I feel like we're just getting by.

  18. You’re living in the wrong out of town. Go to the place that has free tuition and housing for pennies.
