Election Message from R' Hershel Herskowitz

Hershel Herskowitz For Lakewood Township Committee Independent candidate November 7th Vote Column C

Vote Column C
Lakewood Township is a vibrant and diverse community with a rich history, but it faces its share of challenges, from traffic congestion and overdevelopment to concerns about transparency in local government. My goals for the Lakewood Township Committee will be a focus on improving transparency, responsible development, traffic solutions, community engagement, fairness for taxpayers, and building a positive image for our town.

• Transparency and Accountability

One of the central pillars of my campaign is to bring greater transparency and accountability to the Lakewood Township Committee. I believe that an open and honest government is essential to building trust and ensuring that the voices of all residents are heard. I will work to provide easily accessible information about committee meetings, budgets, and decision-making processes to empower residents to actively participate in our local government.

• Responsible Development and Infrastructure

Lakewood Township has witnessed rapid development in recent years, often without adequate consideration for infrastructure improvements. I am committed to responsible development that takes into account the impact on our community. I will work to ensure that infrastructure enhancements are in place before allowing further development to mitigate issues like traffic, lack of open space, overcrowded schools and strained public services.

• Traffic Solutions

Traffic congestion is a daily frustration for Lakewood residents. I recognize the urgent need to address this issue. I will collaborate with experts to design effective traffic solutions that reduce congestion, enhance road safety, and promote the efficient movement of people and goods throughout our town. This will require the input of Lakewood drivers. They know better than any traffic study, what can be done to make the small fixes that together can make a big difference. A special public forum with traffic and safety experts in attendance needs to be established.

• Community Engagement

I will reinstate regular town meetings to facilitate an open dialogue between the Lakewood Township Committee and its residents. These meetings will provide a platform for the community to voice concerns, share ideas, and actively participate in decision-making processes. I believe that informed and engaged citizens are essential for a thriving community.

• Fairness for All

My vision for Lakewood Township is to ensure that every resident benefits from a fair and just system. I am dedicated to avoiding tax abatements and giveaways that disproportionately hurt taxpayers. Instead, I  will work towards an equitable tax system that promotes fairness and benefits everyone, without overburdening any specific group.

• Prioritizing Infrastructure Repairs

Before embarking on new projects, I  will focus on fixing what is broken. This approach will save resources, prevent costly mistakes, and ensure that existing infrastructure is in good working condition. Residents deserve to live in a town where basic services are reliable and efficient.

• Building a Positive Image

Lakewood Township has much to offer, and I  will actively promote our community to build a positive image. I  aim to showcase the town's unique strengths and character, such as its diverse culture, local businesses, and future development of recreation and open space . A positive image can attract new investments, boost tourism, and increase overall community pride.

Running for the Lakewood Township Committee is a commitment. My vision is to work for the betterment of all residents and ensure that our town is run fairly, efficiently, and in a way that safeguards the interests of all its citizens. By addressing the concerns I have mentioned , I  hope to create a more vibrant and prosperous Lakewood for all.

  1. Are you making the town more walk able? Are you going to listen to the people who walk and help them with there needs?
What about bikers? Are the streets going to be safe enough for them to bike or are they going to still bike on the sidewalk making walking on sidewalks not so safe?

    1. You can move to Brooklyn where pedestrians took over the streets. It would be wonderful if we can give some space for walkers but there currently isn’t even room for cars!

    2. In every town there will be people who can not drive for many different reasons.

  2. The number one reason why parents in the Suburbia drive their kids every were is because they are afraid they will be run over.
If we make the streets save for the Jr. High crowd to walk it would help with traffic.
