  1. I'm not arguing for saying for the Mi S'Berech for the IDF but is Lcho Dodey really the last thing added to the siddur? The Lakewood minhag of saying Shir Hmaloos before Maariv Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur is a lot younger. Those who say a Mi Sberech for the shul rav are also saying something younger Those who took OUT Hanosen Tshua from davening did the oppisite but that is not as controversial. I was told by a Young Israel Rov that he asked Rav Yaakov Kamentsky if he should make an issue about the Young Israel minhog of saying Yedid Nefesh before Kabbolas Shabos and was told not to (very possibly I'm confusing the issue . he told this to me over thirty years ago)

    1. Rabbi Ribner wasn't discussing adding tehilim or Yedid Nefesh. He was referring to composing new tfilos. This hasn't happened since Lecho Dodi. (If I remember correctly, the Tosfos Yom Tov's tfila was after the Arizal but I may be wrong.)

  2. How about the Tosfos Yom Tov מי שבירך for not talking by davening that is said in many shuls?
    Additionally, Chassidim say hodu erev shabbos before mincha.
    I (as if my opinion counts) would agree that to say it all the time would be playing around with the siddur and it comes from a Zionist way of thinking but in a special עת צרה where their lives are at risk every second it would be appropriate to say something special for them.
    Regarding אחינו, firstly we dont say it on shabbos, additionally we see that being specific is a big maaleh in tefilla and that is why at the מי שבירך for cholim we specify their names so why not specify that we are davening for tens of thousands of our brothers who are literally risking their lives to protect us.
    I venture to say that if our children were fighting in Gaza perhaps we would think a little differently.

  3. L'cha Dodi and rest of kabbalat Shabbat is not prayer but to get us in mood for Shabbat. That's why some shuls have (mature) children saying it. And why chazzan says it from the bima and switches to amud for Barchu.
    Thus Yedid Nefesh is not a problem, besides it's a pizmon for proper tfillah.

    If you're talking about problems with Lakewood nusach, the hoiche shmone esrei is a problem, it's only allowed for special circumstances, not regular usage.
