Bernie Sanders: Israel has a right to defend itself against Hamas. But innocent Palestinians also have a right to life and security. Interesting times at the UN

- UN resolution for ceasefire fails A Russian-drafted UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza has failed to win the nine-vote minimum. Only Russia, China, the UAE and Gabon voted in favor of the draft, while nine members abstained; and the US and the UK voted against.

- Russia and China have vetoed a US resolution in the UN Security Council, a draft American resolution that condemns the Hamas movement and recognizes Israel's right to self-defense, and does not call for a ceasefire.

- New House Speaker Mike Johnson says 1st act will be to pass a resolution supporting Israel.

- Biden threatens Iran with retaliatory fire if attacks on US military bases in the Middle East do not stop “My warning to the Ayatollah was that if they continue to oppose these troops, we will respond. And he must be ready. This has nothing to do with Israel”

Biden press conference:

- Hamas does not represent the vast majority of the Palestinian people and hides behind civilians

- Israel must adhere to the laws of war and do everything it can to protect innocent civilians

- There is no return to the situation that existed on October 6 between Israel and the Palestinians

- We will work to ensure that Hamas does not pose a threat to Israel in the future
