A 15-year-old Batsheva Cohen A’H was nifter after being struck by a car last night while crossing Route 70 and Vermont near the Belzer community, BDE.(kolHaolam) Levaya will take place today in Lakewood at the chapel on 7th street at 2:30 pm. Kevurah will be in Lakewood
Police said a preliminary investigation showed the driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old Toms River man, was traveling west on Route 70 when he struck the teenager, who was walking south in the crosswalk on Vermont Avenue. “She was with her mother and younger sister at the time of the (crash),” Staffordsmith said.
Another sad day in Lakewood. The Lakewood infrastructure was not created for the traffic it now sees. Nor for the pedestrian traffic. The daily accidents and tragedies are becoming a normalcy.
ReplyDeleteSad.
And now they are planning to put high rise buildings up to 15 stories on the 70 with no infrastructure or sidewalks for pedestrians. People should not have to walk over or Cross route 70. The township ignores the plight of residents who are screaming about safety for years about the danger of Lakewood roads ro both vehicles and pedestrians.
ReplyDeleteIt is all about power and Money. Does anyone care for life???
so basically, a community from Brooklyn decides that they want to move to Lakewood for the cheaper housing. they build a community along a dangerous highway in an area not designed for pedestrians and now it is the townships fault? I am saddened and sickened that this tragedy had to happen but perhaps it is not the township officials that are to blame here (although there is plenty to blame them for in other areas). we are still struggling to get better pedestrian infrastructure in the existing parts of town; it is unreasonable to expect major upgrades in such a short amount of time. can the developers and askanim that profited from all this construction honestly say "our hands have not shed this blood"?
ReplyDeleteDisgusting
DeleteHV does not usually post a separate post about every tragedy in Lakewood. HV has an agenda against overdevelopment in Lakewood, which I agree with 100%. But is this the time to bring this up? I have much to say on this subject, but this is not the time. The poor girl hasn't even had a levaya yet!
DeleteThis is the time to bring it up. Now that someone unfortunately lost his life maybe others would wake up. And if we do not wake up now the scenario. Well probably repeat itself
DeleteThere should be a pedestrian bridge over the 70 especially now that the flea market houses are up.
ReplyDeleteEvery week lakewood yidden are going injured and maimed to hospitals as a result of accidents due to a lack of infastructure.. yet the leadership ignores it because they don't want to acknowledge it while they are approving more building for developers. Even worse the media lives off it by showcasing the injured and smashed up cars as clickbate enjoyment for the blood thirsty fans to satisfy their daily dose of dopamine rush.
ReplyDeleteThis has nothing to do with "infrastructure". That location has a traffic light and crosswalks. Either the driver ran the red light, or the pedestrians were crossing on the red. Either way, it's a matter of personal responsibility and consequences.
ReplyDeleteThey were not crossing, they were walking on the shoulder. Not blaming or justifying, but don't spread untruths.
DeleteThat's not what the police report said.
DeleteSorry, talk about truth, as a family member - they were crossing with the light.
Deletethe people commenting here are sick evil non compassionate people. My only thought is how the family is anguished. Hashem decides how long a person lives and it seems that batsheva AH was able to achieve her tachlis on this world at a very young age.

DeleteWe have an achrayus to protect each other and demand safety from township officials who are putting people in dangerous situations chas veshalom on roads with no sidewalks or shoulders. Cross streets is sakanas nefashos yet the bochurim there have no choice but to walk on 3 inches of a shoulder. A bachur was hit before purim and it was a nes that he survived. We can not sit idly by as this recklesness continues
DeleteShame on us for not SCREAMING LOUDER ABOUT THIS. CAN WE SAY YADEINU LO SHAFCHA ON THE DAILY ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES.
Levaya 2:30 at 7th street chapel
ReplyDeleteThere is no crosswalk at this intersection. There is no pedestrian walk signals. It is not meant for pedestrian traffic
ReplyDeleteThere is a crosswalk
ReplyDeleteThe State is responsible for the infrastructure on Rt 70
ReplyDeleteThe state is responsible for car safety route 70 is a state hwy not meant for pedestrian traffic. The township should push for a pedestrian bridge. It's a sakan to for ppl to cross over the median.
DeleteThere no issue with overdevelopment but when the infrastructure is not up to date you have all the problems. NYC is equipped with sidewalks and a public transportation system and meant to be a city. Lakewood is a rural town becoming a city but without the infrastructure to support it. That's the crux if the issue. It is inexcusable to have people waste their day stuck in traffic. The askanim who profit off it make light of it to deflect from the seriousness of the problem and pretend that its part of living in Lakewood and if you don't like it just move out.
ReplyDeleteThem &Developers as long as it is okay by them
DeleteSinas chinom for their lack of caring
Deleteb'emes a terrible tragedy.; im from bp and i am confused is there a traffic light , is there a crosswalk , is it different than ocean parkway? to get to your house u need to walk on the shoulder?
ReplyDeleteSpeed limit on OP is 25 mph.
DeleteNutz.Used to be way more
DeleteThey took the exciting atmosphere out of Brooklyn
A tragedy should never be used to promote anyone’s agenda. Whether that agenda is seatbelts, reflectors, or overdevelopment now is not the time for it.
ReplyDeleteSir, this tragedy should be used to prevent others from dying.
DeleteSir no don’t use people’s pain to promote your agenda. Right now we all mourn with the family.
