  1. Mosdos should stop getting involved with the ruchmiyus of parents. And stop blaming all societal ills on the internet as a scapegoat to the problems we are facing. The gashmiyus problem in Lakewood is despite the interne yet there's no campaign against allowing publications into our homes that promote these foreign concepts. The internet is always the culprit.
Why should parents be told by a consultant who sees shmutz on hard drves about how to run their personal life at home.
Awareness is ok nut this is intrusion and undermining the parents.

    1. The mosdos are realizing that a blanket no internet or no smartphone ipad technology policy isn't working. All or nothing approuch failed. At the same time houses have devices that the adult font even realizes what they can connect to. They are bringing in technology experts to help families fine tune the Internet filters for each of their needs, and to point out which media and other devices are hidden dangers. Too bad you have a problem with that.

    2. Until the mosdos shut down their websites and internet fundraisers until rosh mosdos give up their smartphones they have no right to demand or lecture the parents.
Hypocrisy is the worst form of chinuch.

    3. Mosdos that allow parents to have internet and smartphones for business purposes and have web-based fundraisers are not hypocrites.

    4. The Mosdos should focus on their jobs - educating the children.

If the parents have open internet, come late to Shacharis, carry in a Halachically weak eiruv, or don't fully believe that Reb Aaron Kotler brought Torah to America, that is not the Mosdos' business.

      Delete
    5. Addition: If the Mosdos get busy with matters that are not their business, it is inevitable that they will be distracted from their real job.

    6. How is it not their business? you send your kids there for them to help u be mechanech your kids. Having kids have access to internet etc is really harmful for the growth of your child,
I’ve been to such meetings it’s very open and friendly awareness, ideas, guidance etc. online usage is becoming more and more problematic there is nothing wrong aderaba it’s good when the school acknowledges it and works with parents to help them make the right choices to the betterment of the chinch of our children.

    8. The Mosdos need to make sure:-
      1. Bullying by children is nipped in the bud.
      2. Bullying by staff is nipped in the bud.
      3. The Melamdim actually know what they are teaching, and they know how to teach it.
      4. Children's social issues are addressed in the younger grades, so they can flourish.
      5. The food served is Kosher and healthy (stop the fishsticks!)
      6. They have a viable Limudei Chol curriculum that engages the children and keeps them behaving.
      7. The bussing is efficient and the drivers actually show up when they are supposed to.

Involving themselves in the parents' lives is not part of it, they have no time for it.

And don't kid yourself. This 3rd party organization is out for control and money, and there are many stories that prove it

  2. The email above is faded. I posted it on my website at: http://arthur2240.ipage.com/documents/Gmail%20-%20Commissioner's%20Decision.pdf

Also, please see the April 13, 2021 BOE brief before the Commissioner.

    http://arthur2240.ipage.com/documents/BOEExceptions.pdf

Please be advised that the loans are being paid back every year. This year's budget allocates $20 million in payments. The Lakewood BOE is not like the federal government that borrows on the full faith and credit of the United States. It is not going to be able to borrow forever.

Finally, I have been asked, why don't I ask the mosdos and other people to contact BOE members. As of Friday, I can not. Now that the BOE has been invited back into the matter by the Commissioner, I can only go through their attorney, whom I emailed on Friday. However, my position is that since this is a matter of vital public concern, I am free to publicize the position of our elective representatives without making direct contact or directly asking others to do so.

If the BOE truly believes that the state is providing a thorough and efficient education in Lakewood, then they are compelled to take that position. My position is that the question cannot be answered by minor improvements since the record was close, which are no better than the so-called improvements in 2017 and 2018 that the appellate court rejected, but in T & E should be evaluated in its entirety, which includes considering the decades of underfunding with no hope of ever achieving the solvency necessary for effective long-term planning to remediate deficiencies. As the appellate court said by way of example, if you only score in the one percent percentile and the next year you score in the second percentile, that is a 100% improvement but certainly still deficient.

I believe it’s required by law to have a clearly visible marked price. Ironically the cheder who is mandating all parents to meet with the Tag guys uses social media and local news sites to promote the fundraising.

You are the parents and we fully trust that you are aware of what you kids do with whatever devices you choose to give them. Whatever exposure you decide your kids should have, we fully trust you.

The mosdos woke up and realized they made big mistakes with their way of dealing with technology, they are trying to fix it. A technology issue will affect the kids learning in school, the kids friends in school, and spread to other kids during and after school hours. They same crazies who were shutting down shuls because of the fear of Covid spread, close the eyes to the reality of internet spread amongst kids.

A home that is adorned with movie posters may not be a good candidate for their school. A home with a large TV in the family room may not be a good candidate. These should be surprise visits.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Right.
And the other way around too.
The parents should make home visits to the owners' homes, unannounced. They should be able to check how much money they are making on their messirus nefesh, and how the ruchniyus level is in their homes. Do they sing zemiros on Shabbos, do they put the right shoe on first, do they arrive at davening on time.

      It should go both ways.

Back in the 1950s, which is frequently touted today as a time of super acceptance, some of the shuls in Brownsville, Brooklyn, which isn't know as a super frum neighborhood, would not accept you as a member unless they were in your house first to see what it looks like. They weren't looking over your house with a fine comb, but they did want to see that basic halacha was kept before allowing to be a member.

Clearly you don't. Not only is it not profitable, it's exceedingly difficult and takes everything out its owners.
I've worked in the field for many years and I have no idea how anyone could imagine this. The reason I've never opened my own mossed and went into business instead is because of the difficulty in running one, funding it, and the lack of gratitude that people like you demonstrate. Fact is that I worked in Mosdos HaTorah for close to 20 years. I have a better idea of what goes on than most or all who post here. I have seen the books. I've seen the struggles. I know the reality and I'm not bitter.
After being in the field for all that time, I still give most of my maaser money to my children's schools. I support them any way I can.
Give up the bitterness. Give up the anger. It's misplaced and won't lead to anything positive.

Says the fellow who never worked in a school for a single day of his life.

Every single school has bookkeepers and accountants. Most file a yearly 990. Can all kinds of things be rolled into those books? Of course, but there's internal accountability. Very few rosh mosdos know how to keep books and that's a fact.

Truly sorry for you that you're so bitter. Life is not easy when everyone else is to blame for your misery. Victimhood only feels good momentarily and then you quickly need to up the dose.

If people follow this new 3rd party organization like lemmings, their power will be solidified. We must all together refuse to meet with them, refuse to cooperate and refuse to grant them any power over us. They will call to meet with us, we must make sure that we do not treat them like any authorities. If you agree to meet them, let them come to your house, don't go to them. 2. If the parents meet the organization מרצון this year, they will have the power to tell everyone that they must meet them next year. This year they will be all smiles, next year they will have the ability to tell you exactly which filter you may have, and to control your lives.

Our brothers, the Chassidim in Brooklyn, suffer terribly from this, as their privacy and autonomy are degraded. In Eretz Yisroel it is an even greater problem as unelected askonim spit in the faces of Gedolei Yisroel and decide on their own which telephones are ok, they charge money for their services, and overcharge the average person.

Do not allow askonim to have any control. They can help if they want, but never ever give them the keys to the safe. It never ends well.
