The schnorer demands: instead of giving us full support...... The USA is looking out for their own interest just as Israel doesn't look out for the USA interest... No one owes Israel anything. For their own good they should internalise that idea. They are not independent they need USA eu and others too and they should act accordingly
ReplyDeleteYes, but I would not call them schnorers just as I would not call Churchill a schnoerer in WWII. This is what allies do. We can't get into a war with the Soviets so we let our allies fire the shots. However, when it comes to vital interest, like international shipping (the protection of which has been the policy of every administration and British ministry for 400 years-think Mahan and TR) Israel is furthering America's interests. Once it gets to hot to handle, American will give the red light, as it has done in every war.
DeleteAlso, Nixon wrote in "Seize the Moment" that America support of Israel is not strategic but ideological. Not sure I agree but look at how today there is more support for Israel in Congress than for Ukraine, who is fighting the Soviets Commies head on.
Nixon had it in a nutshell. Strategically Israel was a liability for the US.In some ways it might still be.
DeleteYes. I see you read his book or are familiar with his pragmatism in foreign policy.
DeleteMight be difficult for many to face it. Though as jews it was agreeable to us,the US threw away those who were ready to be it's natural allies i.e the arabs for Soviet containment.
DeleteIsrael in reality shouldn’t be. Since it’s inception an its first war with the arabs its only existence is because Hashem has fought its battles for them. We need to just keep davening and thanking Hashem for all the nisim and forget USA and the rest of the world and do Teshuva and trust in Hashem and he will take care of everything. In 48 they should have been annihilated. In 67 again they should have been annihilated. In 73 they almost were thats when they thought kochi votzem yadi. Simchas Torah should have been much worse according to the Arabs. It’s been major chesed of Hashem every step of this war. When we realize this and thank Him and are boteach in Him we will have a yeshua.
ReplyDeleteYes. Israel is a miracle, but despite the European mentality, like us Americans, in Israel, the Jews will fight and the Jews will work the land. Even though we think Israelis are different but they are more like us than we think. Go back to the WWI, 1920s and 1930 how tough the Jewish kids were in the goyish neighborhoods, how they achieved in colleges, industry, the arts and government when they grew up. They were giants (albeit not so religious) and we sit on their shoulders. Our Torah is theirs but they were a lot tougher than the kids in Lakewood today.
DeleteI don't like this quoting kochi votzem yadi. Show me one Israeli soldier who says that. The true meaning is that the pasuk is warning against people who think might makes right. Every soldier knows that he only survives by the grace of heaven, and his cause is right not just because it is his country, but because it is just. Think how Athens violated this before the Peloponnesian War.
DeleteIs Israel an Athens?A Sparta? Neither
DeleteSo basically since we get saved again and again we're not meant to use our heads. Kind of silly and especially from those who support the establishment of the state of Israel based on the practicality and need.
ReplyDeleteI sure haven't seen any ideas from those who oppose the current way of dealing with things that make any sense. The famous comment of the Chazon Ish about how some of those who are too anti-Zionist are fighting the wrong battle was meant in a ruchnuis sense. Today it seems true even in a very literal gashmuis sense.
DeleteSo since you haven't heard of any better solution you enthusiastically support the non-solution they are presenting. Which from the get-go had zero chance of success... The Israeli government themselves doesn't even claim that they had much success yet. What exactly are you supporting??
DeleteHuh? Did I say that?
