ReplyDeleteWe are seeing history repeat itself. Nixon went down when he was connected to the his underlings. Same with Trump. There is no question that people under him committed serious crimes and Trump will ultimately be connected. I'm sure they are already talking. Nixon was caught on tape. So was Trump. Nixon lost his license to practice law in NY. Today Trump just lost his right to do business in NY.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting see if he will serve a term as president in state jail. I am almost certain the Supreme Court will not force the state to suspend his sentence if convicted. Once you give the president immunity, or free from punishment short of removal from office, we will have a emperor, the Court knows it. The Court will most certainly come down correct on every issue. They will restore him the the ballot in Colorado. They will rule he is not immune. And unless Trump is convicted of a crime that typically does not lead to jail time, he will sit in jail for the duration of his term. They would, of course, have to build a large prison with huge numbers of staff, and somehow connect him to the White House. But still, justice will be served even if his time in jail is presidential. Of course all this is speculative because Biden is going to win.
It is also possible that the Court draws a bright line rule depending on the crime. However, this is doubtful in Trump's case because the alleged crimes are related to elections. A president might get a suspended sentence for stealing a car or something, but in the case of Nixon and Trump, it is doubtful the Court would cite the Supremacy Clause to keep him out of jail because the alleged crimes go to the heart of our Constitutional system. Maybe the fools that hold of the Imperial President theory would dissent but I doubt it. After all, we don't want our president to be an emperor by giving his person sovereign immunity.

John Anderson was not so made fun of but he should have been. He wanted a flat tax to replace our progressive income tax. And what about that idiot Pat Buchanan causing problems in the Republicans.

The Republicans also want to win even though they showed their incompetence in Congress and their candidate for President makes stupid remarks. Not to worry because even if Trump wins, he surely will not have both houses of Congress and the Supreme Court will limit his power as it did to Truman when he had the army take over the mines. The system is not going to fall. But have some respect mister.
