  1. Here is a quote from today's NY Times concerning the question of the cold considerations that must be taken under the rules of war and Israel's compliance:

Israeli security officials insist that their standards of proportionality have remained constant in this conflict. There are lawyers, they say, in nearly every military unit on call 24/7, reviewing the legality of each strike. Often in real time, the lawyers provide advice to commanders about the legality of targets and the weapons to be used. They also assess the army’s efforts to warn civilians and the estimated harm to noncombatants. If the lawyers deem a strike unlawful, field commanders must cancel it.

True, lawyers can make mistakes, but this not just wanton bombing motivated by rage. No one purposely tries to tragically kill children or mothers in hospitals. That is awful but does not diminish the necessity to destroy Hamas. Even Bernie Sanders, on Face the Nation last week, who also is calling for a cease fire, IS NOT calling for a truce to end the war. Just humanitarian aid but EVEN HE agrees that Israel must carry on the war.
