Lakewood BOE Budget Introduced Today at Meeting

 The Lakewood BOE will introduce the budget for the school district for the 2022-2023 school year. The total budget is  $333,383,869 million of which $111 million will be raised by local property taxes, and includes a  request for a  $24 million loan against state aid. A public hearing will take place on may 9, 2022.

 Legal services which pay for the board attorney have gone down to $600k from $750k last year. The board attorney salary was recently in the news after APP reported that the taxpayers were charged more than $1 million in billings during each of the last two school years and more than $3 million in the past four years. No word yet how this will have a effect on property taxes

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lakewood Board of Education approves the school district’s 2022-2023 Introduced Budget for submission to the Executive Ocean County Superintendent of Schools for review and approval as follows

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Lakewood Board of Education approves the maximum General Fund budgeted travel and related expense reimbursements in the amount of $15,000, that the maximum amount approved in the pre-budget year was $11,150.00 and that as of January 31, 2022 the total amount expended and encumbered on travel is $7,178.99  and;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Lakewood Board of Education approves the School-Based Budgets (Fund 15) in the amount of $40,111,222  and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Lakewood Board of Education approves the maximum amounts for contracted professional services as follows:

Legal Services                         $600,000

Audit Services                         $100,000

Architectural Services             $100,000

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this budget includes a request for a DOE Loan Against State Aid in the amount of $24,054,721 in order to provide a Thorough and Efficient education and;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Lakewood Board of Education requests the Commissioner to defer the repayment of prior year DOE Loans Against State Aid and audit recoveries for the 2022-2023 school year and;

 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this budget includes approved Capital Projects in the amount of $4,754,811 and a withdrawal from Capital Reserve in the amount of $4,067,876 and;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this budget has proposed programs and services in addition to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards adopted by the New Jersey State Board of Education and;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Lakewood Board of Education authorizes the advertising of the budget, upon approval by the Executive Ocean County Superintendent of Schools, and in accordance with New Jersey Department of Education regulations, four days prior to the Budget Public Hearing date and;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Lakewood Board of Education approves the date, place and time of the 2022-2023 Budget Public Hearing to be Monday, May 9, 2022 online via Zoom through the district website beginning at 7:00 p.m.
