Agudas YIsrael of America : Sar V’gadol Nafal Hayom Hazeh B’Yisroel
With broken hearts and tear-filled eyes we must share the terrible news of the petirah of Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky, zecher tzaddik v’kadosh l’verachah. Rav Chaim’s influence on the Torah world was unparalleled. He was known widely as the Sar HaTorah and was seen as the preeminent Torah authority and posek acharon for Klal Yisroel.
Mah nomar u’mah nedaber. Rav Chaim’s greatness cannot be captured in a few words; our loss is incalculable. This is a time for introspection, when each and every one of us should recognize the special achrayus we have to strengthen ourselves in Torah, to collectively fill in some small measure the terrible void created by the petirah of Maran Rav Chaim.
T’hei nishmaso tzerurah bitzror hachayim.

ReplyDeleteThat picture of Keri'ah looks like it is his children, not random people.
ReplyDeleteGenerally, we have not heard of random people tearing Keri'ah for anyone any more. Even Reb Moshe etc..
Not true. It is brought in halacha for talmidim or anyone who feels like children.
DeleteI wrote 'we have not heard' and you write 'it is brought in halacha'.

Reb Chaim Shmuelevitz said when the Brisker Rav was niftar, "Now is a serious time, not time for jokes", when he was asked about kri'ah.
Without getting involved in what should or should not be done. Just on the topic of if it was done or not. You may not have heard of it. And it could be that R Chaim Shmuelevitz said that to someone that he felt wasn't really serious Vhu Raya he asked beforehand. But "we" did see this by many big people.
