To contrast this with our income, In April alone we saw a reduction of $300,000 out of our projected April income. Needless to say, it is only you who can help us keep Yeshiva afloat. We will not be charging lunch fees for April-June and in the event you were charged, they will be credited to your account."

  3. Can the schools please publicize their financials?

    1. And if they publish their financials will you cover their deficits?

  4. Harav Yonasan Binyamin Goldberger, Bikovsker Rav is the son in law of Harav Shlomo Halberstam, not of the previous Bobover Rebbe. Harav Naftali Tzvi Halberstam had only two daughters.

  5. If the school gets a PPP loan that covers the payroll, will they pass along the savings to the parents?

    1. YSV of monsey put out a letter that they will pass that savings to the parents. Every Lakewood school should do the same.

      Delete
    2. If every Lakewood mosad charged the same tuition and had the same balei batim on their boards like YSV, i am sure they would do the same..... You can't compare apples to oranges. Teachers are working very hard preparing sheets and teaching through conferences and are not on "vacation" now and they are being paid accordingly. In addition, a big part of a schools budget is a mortgage which is not going away even if the building is closed and who knows if they will get the typical rental income from camps this summer.

    3. "-From a Lakewood yeshiva on paying tuition: "The bulk of the Yeshiva budget is the salaries of Rebbeim, Teachers and Faculty." why are you paying their salaries , let them go on unemployment!! (at least partial unemployment)

    4. YSV charges $13,000 a year tuition. Anyone volunteering to pay that rate next year to get the savings because of PPP loans. And by the way being that Lakewood schools don't charge $13,000 the PPP loans will go to cover your scholarship being that the schools can't fundraise now

      Delete
    5. Schools should all be eligible for the PPP program, which will have our dear president covering 2.5 months of payroll. If they dont qualify, then the teachers should go on unemployment, which will in most cases be an increase in salary.

  6. The Zoom zoning board meeting last night was not done with the law as there was
a lag, the people were not able to be heard.

    1. Correct. According to the NJ MLUL and OPMA laws all the voting was invalid. The meeting needs to be redone in a way that permits the public to participate. Shame on them.

  7. How much is LSTA saving by not having to provide transportation, will parents get back some money will the surplus cover for next year without the 150 fee.

  8. The issue with school tuition has nothing to do with what their expenses and revenue was. The main question which needs to be clarified is; "Were the services that we agreed to pay tuition for (10 months of education) provided?" Its unfortunate if their expenses remained the same and revenue went down bit that shouldnt obligate the parents to pay.

    1. Ok. You win. Don't pay for this year. Now, what do you think next year's tuition will be?

      Delete
    2. Correct. And once they raise tuition even to recover last years losses it aint going down the next year....

      Delete
    3. If you don't feel the services are up to your standard then I'm sure your school will allow you to withdraw and it'll be up to them if they would like to reaccept you in September. but assuming you would still like to use their services they have every right to charge whatever they want for the services they are providing if you don't like it I don't think they'll force you to use it. I've never heard of a school in Lakewood forcing kids to stay in school

  9. If your income has not been affected by corona than there's no reason not to pay tuition.

  10. I feel bad for the chadorim and schools, but this is choshen mishat shayla. We agreed on a rice for a service i wish ypu could deliver but you are not so whymist I still pay the price

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can probably withdraw from the school if you're not happy right now. But they'll probably charge you full tuition when you want to reapply in September. Let's not forget they've always been charging only 65% of their costs

  11. LSTA is charging a fee for next year while having a surplus of no transportation for 4 months

    1. There's a oversight committee for lsta reach out to them and get all the answers

    2. Who said they have a surplus?? Are the bus companies getting paid?

    3. How do you get in touch with the oversight committee?

  12. Why didn't the teachers go on unemployemnt (minus being paid for actual time teaching) ? They would make more money that way (anyone making less than $40k a year is better off not working) and the parents would not have to foot the bill. I have yet to get a good answer on this.

    ReplyDelete

    1. good question they can go on partial unemployment and make more

      Delete
    2. Partial unemploymment is not what a lot of people think it is, Make sure to do your research

    3. Excuse me!!! I work in a school where the Rebbeim AND teachers are working their kishkes our preparing packets and teaching their students every single day! They are putting in HOURS to make sure the children don’t lose out. They are sending home prizes and doing raffles to make it exciting. Just because parents don’t see what goes on behind the scenes doesn’t mean teachers are getting paid for nothing!

      Delete
    4. Anonymous 3:37 parents see the results, and it isn't working.

      Delete
    5. No is denying that. They deserve to get paid. But they will get paid MORE by going on unemployment and the parents will save money.

  13. I didn’t find Knopfler’s name. But I don’t think his ‘congregation’ is large enough to be subject to the ban.

  14. What do you think schools will do if the state ever passes "Tuition Vouchers"? Do you think the schools will lower tuition?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Most families have been hit in some sort of way as far as jncome during corona. Its hard for the teachers but they shohld have applied for partial unemployment to help out the parents. Middle class is as always having it the hardest. We could barely pit food on the table.

  16. a big olam in town is living off food banks tomchei and other means now there's no way to pay tuition.

  17. Just as an FYI to everyone saying teachers should go on unemployment or partial unemployment. Unemployment is not a viable option for most nonprofits that includes schools

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I own a nonprofit and put all my employees on unemployment till my payroll grant from the government came through.

      Delete
    2. You obviously don't have the same pay structure as schools do over 50% of a Rebbi's salary won't be covered by unemployment. Besides for the fact that most schools are self-pay meaning that the school will have to pay the state for the unemployment claims

      Delete
  18. Anonymous @ 3:09pm whats your advice? If not unemployment??

    ReplyDelete

    1. We have to continue paying our teachers ourselves.

  19. The facts are most Lakewood schools are private entities , were the owners don’t want anyone’s opinion only their money ( and some times not even the donors children ). Ysv is a community based school , with a board of directors so of course they care about the community. Let the Lakewood school owners sleep in their bed that they have made. It’s not the parents ( and grandparents ) responsibility to bail them out.

    1. What kind of school would you rather a private entity charging you $4,500 tuition or a community school charging you $13,000 tuition

    2. How many people actually pay 13k?? There are actually schools in lkwd charging 8k not 4.5....
Than there are building funds etc.. that parents need to pay as well...
