The president called it an “injustice” that churches, synagogues and mosques aren’t open.
President Donald Trump on Friday announced that he was designating churches, synagogues and mosques as “essential places that provide essential services” as the nation continues to combat the coronavirus, despite having little legal sway over state governance.
“Some governors have deemed liquor stores and abortion clinics as essential, but have left out houses of worship. It’s not right,” Trump said. “So I’m correcting this injustice by calling houses of worship essential.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to issue guidance to places of worship on how to reopen safely. “If they don’t do it, I will override the governors,” the president threatened.
Trump has previously attempted to wield his authority over state governors, particularly those who have criticized him, but legal scholars say he has little formal power to force governors or businesses to do what he wants. source huff post
The part that I don't get is this. Is the reason shuls were closed until now because it was unsafe or because the government said we should? If it is due to reason 1 then we should technically still be closed since the safety issue didn't change with this speech if it's reason 2 then we should never have been closed.
ReplyDeleteIf it was number one, then the amount of cases is going down so now it is safer to slowly start opening.
DeleteIf it was #2 then we should be continuing to follow the rules because we can daven outside, and it’s not a shas hashmad.
lomer zuggen ir zent gerecht, let us be happy now al shem ha"asid!
DeleteWe need to always remember which Askonim were there for us during the black
ReplyDeletedays .
And which Askonim made our lives harder .
don't kid yourself they will all take credit for what went on there's going to be a huge rally thanking them and the same ones who threatened rabbonim the ones that ignored the early signs as Lakewood was infected by the virus yes they will stand up and expect everyone to clap for them for the selfless askanus.
ReplyDeleteBut could he override the local machers and assskonim?
ReplyDeleteAskanim know better they put all their trust in Murphy the one who passed an assisted suicide bill.
ReplyDeleteWill agudah issue a statement thanking the president
ReplyDeleteAgudah has never shown one ounce of grattitude to this president who is the greatest friend we ever had in the White House. All they did was write stateements that condemn him (after those race riots that he had nothing to do with). Klal yisrael would be alot better off without that rouge organization called Agudas Yisrael.
DeleteThey put klal yisrael in a sakana by going after Trump. self hating liberals
DeleteAnd just like that, the Mouth of the Lakewood Community issued an update stating the Presidents comments were not helpful because "Blah Blah Blah...Askonim....Blah Blah Blah"
DeleteTrump has not overruled the Governor. The Governor's order says businesses deemed essential by the CDC can remain open. Trump has made shuls essential with the CDC. So now the governor must allow shuls. If he explicitly outlaws them then he has a constitutional issue. Governor Murphy said this in regards to gun shops that although he'd love that they be closed, but the CDC declared them essential. So Trump has not technically violated the separations clause but the Governors have no choice. But once again our local askanim are furious.
ReplyDeleteThe 10th amendment is "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
DeleteThe KEY WORDS are "nor prohibited by it to the states". States can not pass laws that violate the first amendment.
