NJ could Have Reopened Schools Earlier During Covid

Something everyone new 4vyeats ago.

N.J. could have reopened schools and businesses earlier during pandemic, COVID report says according to nj media

COVID shut down businesses. Some could have opened earlier, report says.
An independent report on how New Jersey handled the COVID pandemic said some schools and businesses could have reopened earlier.
New Jersey students would have experienced less learning loss and isolation had schools reopened earlier after the coronavirus pandemic shutdown, according to the findings of a 910-page independent review of New Jersey’s response to COVID-19.

The report, released Monday, also said business closures in the state could have been handled differently and have allowed some businesses to reopen earlier or remain open.

The report did find New Jersey was a model for other states with its food distribution program for students during the pandemic.

“In hindsight, it is likely that New Jersey students would have benefited from schools opening sooner,” said the report,

The report noted that if the state had known more about ways to reduce airborne transmission of the virus, particularly by indoor masking, it would have been more likely to encourage reopening more schools in the fall. But reopening then would have been particularly difficult in older urban schools that didn’t have room for social distancing.

A statement by Murphy did not address specific problems outlined in the report.

The pandemic shutdowns may have been even worse on business in New Jersey than the Great Depression, Zoubek said.

“The aggressive closures had a devastating and unprecedented impact on our economy — lost jobs and lost businesses that caused a restructuring of our economy,” he said.

In less than a year, nearly a third of small businesses in the state closed in the wake of restrictions. According to  the report

The report “glosses over the needless damage to our businesses,” said state Sen. Declan O’Scanlon, R-Monmouth, a frequent critic of the Murphy administration during the pandemic.

“Had there been any reasonable give and take, and concern for our businesses, we could have dramatically reduced the negative impact across the board,” O’Scanlon said.

“I think it did tremendous damage to businesses and to the mental status of the folks who owned the businesses,” said former state Assemblyman Hal Wirths, R-Sussex, who during the pandemic called the shutdowns overly aggressive and criticized many of Murphy’s executive orders.

  1. Lakewood was way ahead on this
Sadly some self appointed askance took advantage of the confusion during covid and bullied the town
    Bullied the roshei yeshiva
    Bullied the rabbinic
Acting like kapos to carry out Murphys executive orders.
These same bullies were nowhere to be found at the onset of covid bur only acted after the initial wave moved on from Lakewood did they threatened and terrorize the community.

    1. You must have misread.

This study did not say that before Pesach, everything should stay open.

      Read it again.

    2. This report just scratches the surface. They don't discuss the high rate of death in hospitals due to using ventilator machines which just damaged the already vulnerable lungs. And when they switch to ECMO machines the death rate plummeted. Nor does it discuss the high death rates in nursing homes due to the fact that they scared the nurse is so bad that they did not want to take care of the patients since they assumed that they will die in any case. Those with a bit of independent thinking abilities were able to see through the charade from the very beginning.

  2. Some of those bullies addressed the Mesorah oriented individuals, as Adas Korach.

The refuge of all amei ha'aretz. No Torah, no sechel, no mentchlichkeit. But this elusive 'mesorah' is mattir every issur.

  4. There has to be a day if reckoning and what went in during covid and all those who bullied and threatened the kehilla.
Even on an organizational level the organizations stepped out of bounce beyond their mission or authority and put out statements and messages to the community that was not their place to do.
Small shul rabbonim not even from Lakewood sent out robo calls to the community demanding us to adhere to their personal beliefs in shutting down shuls and other halachic and health matters beyond their scope.

First responders also took matters into their own hands bullying communities not to respond
Chas veshalom should a similar event happen again we must be prepared for guidance and leadership that is accepted by everyone and not be bullied by opportunist who had other motives be it power financial or were agents for the government

    1. Unfortunately, when you bring up all the knowingly false claims the officials ran with - only the vaccine was an effective method, prior infection sorry we just dont know... It was clear as day that a prior infection was effective for a pretty long time but they chose to turn a blind eye refused to look or do any studies on that) When the vaccine was not working at all they still made false claims that it helps with that you wont die - prior infection sorry we just dont know.. for some reason you were NOT allowed into many places with a prior infection but the vaccine - that was gold even when it was clearly failing and prior infection was holding up..(why they ONLY admitted you into places if you were vaccinated if it only protected you from a more severe disease another craziness) Masking another issue fact is especially a surgical mask it barely helps - helps for large droplets coming out of your mouth when you speak, that is it. - Fauci even came out (again) after and said that it wont prevent much! But masking still exist and does come back and will come back when another disease comes around and the masking of the nose another silly requirement - droplets are not coming out of your nose - you get sick from your nose you dont get others sick from your nose - the little that may come out of the nose - the surgical mask not doing the trick for that. The issue is when the courts say the issue is moot - when it clearly is not - wait for it to happen again so we can wait 6 months for a ruling? courts should rule all that went on was wrong, silly and illegal cause it will happen again.

    2. In defense to some -The issue was in the beginning there was a false belief that not everyone will get sick and if you take some precautions you will never get covid with that in mind when the frum in lakewood got sick in droves due to our close intertwined nature and purim /yeshiva etc. the doctors who they were trying to speak to and get them to help us were all upset what are you jews doing blah blah... their goal was to quell the aiva that we never cared about till then and stopped a soon as covid was over.
Long story short I dont have receipts on the people that made brash decisions in the first month but after that yeah it was not Glatt kosher...

    3. How come everybody wears a mask when entering the house of somebody with other compromising sicknesses r"l or surgeons in the operating room?

    4. Yes, we must have accountability.

Who decided to celebrate large Mesibos on Purim? Who decided to go from full mingling to zero contact overnight? Who decided to ignore regulations from Day 1, without any medical backing whatsoever?

Ask the questions, ask them all.

    5. in response to the mask question ie talking point - Just because a surgeon or people are wearing a mask is a proof or maybe its a good question on them!
Like I wrote masks will help for large droplets So a surgeon who is dressed head to toe and is careful with everything else it may have an effect of keeping others protected - but walking around (during a pandemic as fauci originally and reiterated at the end) with just the mask worshipping it like its night or day if you wear one was just silly. People also took issue with why a person who was previously infected didn't help not to wear a mask but the vaccine helped! For 100s of years we knew of something called antibodies why was the medical establishment in a complete denial that it works - "We don't know" - Vaccine was always - even when new variants came out they still said "we can assume the vaccine is still effective" no assuming on antibodies Why?

    6. I know the talking points like blaming the mesibos for ignoring the warnings etc. The fact is there is a fairly good chance that at that point it was too late People were sick before purim and most likely infected many people before purim at yeshiva etc. I remember people coughing away at the megila - which tells me it was rampant and unstoppable already at that point but continue on thinking we could've stopped it had we just listened..
Regulations were mostly adhered to at day 1 it was mainly after pesach when everyone was full of antibodies that people began revolting. Oh the regulation that a toy store cant offer pickup? that made lots of sense defying the lockdown order - that saved millions of lives - yes that was never listened to - smartly..

    7. People are coughing away at megilla every year.

    8. People coughing = unstoppable.

Where do people get their medical degrees from?

    9. Look up incubation period - here is from webmd in regard to covid
On average, symptoms showed up in the newly infected person about 5.6 days after contact.
My point is if people were coughing at the megilla it was too late - in fact people were sick right after purim which would contradict the next line which is - "Rarely, symptoms appeared as soon as 2 days after exposure."
      The ship sailed before purim.

  6. Hopefully, people with logic and reason will understand that in an unknown situation, you take every precaution.I'm not seeing anybody here complain about the free money that was given out. Stop complaining that precautions were taken. We are talking about a kehilla that puts upon itself chumra upon chumra upon chumra. I'm not speaking halachickly here, just about the idea of proper precautions. You are making it sound like a foreign unheard of concept. You all apply it in your daily lives.

    1. The free money that was given out directly caused the inflation that we are struggling with today.

  7. Anon 11:49 - you hit the nail on the head. The kanna'im at the time wanted people to take no precautions at all. No medical advice, including the Great Barrington Declaration, agreed with that.
They were פראי אדם, people with no achrayus or understanding.

  8. 4 years already since the coronavirus Mageifa pandemic started. Does anyone even remember what the SHOCKING MESSAGE DIRECTLY FROM HASHEM was relating to this terrible Mageifa still going on?

Every tragedy has a wake up call message directly from Hashem that your not going to find in any sefer in the world or read in any newspaper from a Gadol Hador or speaker saying about the tragedy. What is the shocking message of the Coronavirus Pandemic-that shut down the entire world starting January 2020-that has already killed millions of innocent lives of all ages, with thousands of them being Yidden Rachmana Litzlan? what does Coronavirus mean? Kara-Na-Aveiros,, call out to your aveiros-my loving children klal yisroel-to wake up & do teshuva. But the message from Hashem doesn't end there, what's the other name for Coronavirus that everyone calls it? i forgot, Covid, what does that mean? what does Covid/Honor do to a person? what does it say in Pirkei Avos? it removes a person from the world, & that's exactly what Covid is doing right now, its removing millions of people from the world thousands of them Yidden Rachmana Litzlan as we are still in the midst of this terrible mageifa effecting the ENTIRE world. Let us all ask ourselves who made it be called these crazy names? Dr. Fauci in the White House? where does it come from? the dictionary? is this just coincidence or is it a straight sign & direct message from Hashem that its time for all of klal yisroel to wake up & do teshuva? you think about this.

Now 4 years later may we finally accept Hashems wake up call for serious Teshuva and Achdus together as one loving nation so Hashem can send Mashiach already bkarov like we all did in the story of Purim
