President Joe Biden hailed the speech Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer gave yesterday in which he called for elections in Israel to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden said it was a good speech.
- White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby is asked whether the US is directly calling for elections in Israel.
“That’s going to be up to the Israeli people to decide,” Kirby says during a press briefing.
- The general Israel cabinet failed to reach an official decision regarding the demands presented by Hamas due to the meeting being scheduled too close to the beginning of Shabbat, Israeli media sources reported on Friday.
-White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby says the Hamas response to the latest hostage agreement framework is “within the bounds of the deal that we’ve been working on for several months.”
- Hamas has submitted a proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza to intermediaries and the United States, suggesting the release of Israeli captives in exchange for the freedom of Palestinian prisoners, including around 100 serving life sentences, as detailed in a document reviewed by Reuters. The proposal outlines Hamas’s willingness to release certain categories of Israeli hostages, such as women, children, the elderly, and the infirm, in return for the liberation of 700 to 1000 Palestinian detainees. Notably, the release of Israeli “female recruits” is specified within the terms.
