Amalek’s Kugel is an acronym for four kugels which together form the word Amalek. A for apple or epel (the ayin)
M for Mehl, or Flour (the mem)
L for lukshen or noodles (the lamed)
K for kartofel(potatoes) the kuf.
In Europe and in other places Chassidim serve these four kugels on the Shabbos when Parshas Zachor is read and then they eat them thereby symbolically annihilating Amalek by eating him all up.
Sheker!
ReplyDeleteIn Europe, they don't eat this.
And Chassidim never ate this.
It is a newfangled meshugass.
No problem with eating it, but don't call it a minhag.
Just because you say it's sheker, doesn't make it so. I know from a mesora, that my Grandmother's grandmother, which is a chain of almost 200 years, ate it.
DeleteYou are correct my bubby's bubby (& actually the zeidy's & kinderlach also)always ate this.
DeleteThey even split it up & ate the apples on rosh hashana, the lukshin was every shabbos (usually Fri night) the kartofel they ate on pesach (during the war they were yotzei with potatoe peels) & the flour they made cakes for the kinderlach to have when they came home from chedar (together with a glass of milk
Harav Mordechai Leifer from Nadvorna would have the 4 kugles by his seuda!
