Kashrus Update From GKRF Facebook group on Chinese Restaurant

Update: OK pulls Hashgacha recommend customers kasher their Keilim see new post HERE

This is a post on the Great Kosher Restaurants Facebook Group written by the Admin who reached out to the OK supervision.

The restaurant has told the OK today that they will be closing the store for good.

GKRF Investigates... Manalapan Kosher Chinese

So as many of you probably have seen, there is this video and photo going around that someone took of the owner/chef (Non Jewish) of Manalapan Kosher Chinese yesterday at Restaurant Depot showing him buying non Kosher chicken and meat (cases) at Restaurant Depot. The OK Supervision was told of the findings and has been investigating.

I never like to post anything without looking into it, so I have spoken to Rabbi Weinfeld of the OK and this is the latest

The OK has been on top of this since being told. They have looked at all the cameras, searched the restaurant, spoken to the mashgiach and are very confident nothing non Kosher was ever brought into the store.

They were told the non Kosher items were bought for another store. Consequently or coincidentally, the restaurant has told the OK today that they will be closing the store for good.

I don't know if he is closing because of all the events in the last 24 hours. I will say, the spread of this didn't help and if in fact he bought it for another place, nothing to do with the kosher place and now is forced to close, that would be a shame.

On the other hand, we don't know the 100% truth and these matters are very serious. In fact the OK did tell me that because of lack of trust (when questioning the owner) they wouldn't feel comfortable continuing with their supervision of the store. Sad all around." (GKRF)

The OK has not released any statement yet.

  1. A few simple questions
did the OK know about the other non kosher restaurant owned? If so why were they investigating at all they should know he buys the treif meat for that store.
    Where is that store located?
Did they know that he buys tteiff meat all along for the other store?
Did the owner just open a new non kosher store?

  4. Why do some people think it's extremely frum to react angrily to half-baked scandals like these?
We should wait and see what actually happened, because so far it is a great nothingburger. Let's withhold judgement until the facts emerge. And if the facts don't emerge, we won't judge. How is that?

  5. LET ME SAY SOMETHING VERY ALARMING.
I’ve eaten there more than 50 times. I know the Mashgiach. Real Ehrliche Chabad fellow.
Here’s what’s odd. During the whole chicken shortage recently with labor shortage in the shlacht house, causing Regular Chicken cutlets to skyrocket. They didn’t go up in price more for the chicken. I haven’t eaten there since. I suspect it started then.

    1. Does that mean they think it only started within past 6 months? How would they know?

  8. The whole place was shady from day one no matter who gave the kosher supervision as the prices were always low and the people used to say look at the mashgiach he did there and learns there the whole day but wait a minute this place is like a back alyway it's the size of a shoe box they never grew larger and everyone said the food was good
    Sounds shady
And from day one I said none should eat there as how can you trust a non jew with kosher food
Face it this place always had an issue and finally got caught openly
Who took the video and pictures
    Was it someone that's involved
Was it a set up to prove this place was always an issue

  9. i think the OK owes the tzibbur an explanation as to why, when warned in the past of underhanded practices, by the above establishment, they ignored it while us- the gullible public, continued eating their. never mind the gehenoim but the tumtum halev ,THATS CAUSED BY EATING TREIF which that in itself brings to other averos, that i cant or will ever forgive. Ive eaten their food on many occasions, last time was 2 weeks ago supper for the whole family. If it turns out they lowered the standard by giving the owner the keys or as they say the proverbial “fox guarding the hen house” thats 100 NEGLIGENCE ON OK’S PART!
if theyre telling people to kasher their keilim IT DOESNT GET WORSE THEN THAT !!!!
THE LETTER THEY SENT IS AT THE LEAST VERY PITIFUL. NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY??
I FOR ONE WILL BL’N NOT EAT FROM OK’S SUPERVISION AS THEY CANT BE TRUSTED

  10. I find it interesting that now so many ppl are saying told you so yet many ppl never heard a word that this place was suspect. So going forward which places should we stay away from?

  11. People used this store as proof the frum stores are ripping people off. If we would not just patronize the lowest price, this wouldn't happen.
