- Response to the NYT article about chasidishe schools education by R' Aaron Kotler excerpts from a email sent:
I am sure you have seen the incredible growth of business and social and economic success in Lakewood, with tens of thousands of high paying jobs, millions of square feet of Class A office built, filled and staffed by Orthodox.  This is a social success by any measure and outcomes that exceed that of South Jersey by far.  It has lifted the economic boat of the entire Ocean County region. Somehow the Times appears to many to be grinding an ideological axe. It has a long history of missing the mark: The Times has been cited for playing up Stalin and Communism as great advancements for humanity, to downplaying the Holocaust and humanizing Hitler and the SS. ...
On another point, The Times should be ashamed of how it positioned this article: The inference of Jews and money is an old one, and common in media, the APP once ran a series called “Cheated” that implied that the Jews are cheating the public schools. Shame on them.
Accusations of  bias has led to many folks losing trust in old media and the rise of groups like MAGA and others. It’s sad and predictable. Aaron Kotler

  1. SORRY, we do not want to be taught how to hold a chicken - by a BABY KILLER!

  2. Baby Killers don't have the right to lecture us on what's considered 'humane' treatment of chickens!

    1. Okay I'll let them know that you said that.

  3. We shouldn’t be basing our standards off of petas ethics. We should judge it objectively. And objectively most of us would agree that it doesn’t exactly feel compassionate to the chicken (yes I know you’re gonna say that neither does slaughter which is obviously very different) nor does the idea of having a stand in for our sins ie an animal taking the fall (yes I know you’re gonna protest with azazel which again is obviously very different) feel like the right way to be approaching Yom Kippur. It’s a minhag of dubious origin the value of which should be reconsidered in light of the real potential for tzar baalei chaim, it being theologically problematic vis a vis vicarious atonement and above all the chillul HaShem involved that people think that this rite is part and parcel of traditional Judaism when in truth no one seems to know where it’s even originated from. Ok, let the hate begin

    1. So presumably we should eat Kitniyos because we don't know where the custom originated.
There is no צער בעלי חיים when the animal is used for a purpose, and a Minhag is also a 'purpose'.
Objectively, we should and can continue the Minhag, and people like you can stream their hate online (while blaming others for the same).

    2. purpose doesn't matter, you still need to make sure it's done in a way that conforms with the halacha of tzar balei chaim - if it does, then great! If not, it's something that should be fixed, not because PETA or anyone is telling us to do so but because that's the halacha

  4. Before they tell us about chickens they should tell all the lobster eaters not to boil the lobster ALIVE. Or to put them in a oven and bake them ALIVE.
Peta are the biggest hypocrites ever.

  5. Its a good line, but its not the truth. They don't really condone killing babies, just fetuses.

    1. Will be bad optics for them to say it for now at this juncture but enough of them do. They call it 4th trimester abortion or similar.

    2. We on the other hand have to be careful of our own optics. Kapparos must be done the most humane way possible if done with chickens!?

  6. The last time my family went for kaparos (2yrs ago) we witnessed a huge pile (hundreds) of "kapparad" chickens that were lying dead. It's kind of ridiculous. It's supposed to go to anyyim....

  7. I think PETA has trolls posting on Hefkervelt

  8. Is Peta against fishing?

  9. Um right but fetuses are not objects. They are live human beings and killing them is no different than murdering a man of color.

  16. So what AK is saying is that the NY Times story is true but it should not be reported because Jewish people are stereotyped to love money, and it should not be reported by the NY Times because of something almost a hundred years ago. But isn't that part of the point of the story, that the schools are getting state money but not learning American history? BTW That is why we are seeing MAGA. Because we have put too much emphasis on math and English and learning American history, the source of patriotism, has be neglected. It's not just the press that these Commie Pinko Putin lovers want to destroy, but it is the authority of Congress, our traditions and our institutions. They have resorted to mob rule and intimidation.

    1. Well put in theory. In practice it is so improbable to teach it's incorrect. That is although the text curriculum have been liberal left color for so long they have gone beyond recently to Woke .Done in such subtle ways that however only a real mumcha will sift and catch

  17. What is it with our community and PETA? No one in America cares about them. It is like that Intafadatifa thing they keep talking about, or the commie lady from the Bronx in Congress. They even gave her three letters AOC, as if they wanted her to be president, since presidents have three letter. PETA, the Intafadatif and this commie lady are nobodies and no one cares about them.
