News outlets are businesses and have all the incentive in the world to say the truth, particularly when they would be the first to report it. It is irrational to think they favor their politics over money. And there are just as many newspapers owned by Republicans and Democrats, but as I said that does not matter, because they are mostly owned by rating and sales.
As for what the President is doing, our response to the Soviets has ALWAYS been public. It has always been a war of words between us. If he is silent, that is statement enough. When they shot down the KAL airliner during Reagan, we proved them wrong at the UN. When Francis Gary Powers was shot down in their territory, they took it up also at the UN. The Cuban Missile Crisis was also played out before the world.
The "Russian Election Meddling" in 2016 consisted of approximately $100,000 in Facebook ads. A very insignificant amount relative to the $1 Billion + spent by Clinton, and the 100s of millions if not billions in free positive coverage provided by the MSM.

China has historically been our friend. During colonial times, when the Europeans tried to break up China resulting in the Open Door Policy to the present day. The only setback was during Mao. By contrast, the Monroe Doctrine was set against Russia when they built forts on the Pacific Coast and have been our arch enemy since then. As for how much and AMERICAN spends on a campaign, it is illegal for da-n foreigners to get involved. Russia still poses the biggest threat to the US and we dropped the ball by focusing of the backward camel herders for twenty years. And anyway, Texas is pretty strong. Sam Houston, Alfred Sydney Johnson, George Patton, and every citizen has an arsenal in his own house, just because Texas alone can kick Russia's posterior, does not mean that Russia is not a threat. They always have been and always will.

Trump believes in blowing smoke and granting China victories under the guise of a fight. Biden wants to use sechel. I don't know what his plan is, but Trump's produced nothing but to increase the deficit. He thinks that yelling and tweeting is a sound government policy.
