Someone is asking why his children aren't 400 in a room, locked up with surveillance cameras.

  2. The ridiculous application for the 99-unit apartment building scheduled to be heard on January 4th is Appeal # 4115 by Hampton Development. The applicant wants this 4 story high building directly on top of Route 88. The code requires a 25 foot setback off of the roadway, but this wants a variance to come within only NINE (9) FEET of the state highway.

The traffic & safety situation in that heavily used corridor is already crazy. This guy wants to add another 252 cars to that chaos?!

  3. Concerning that apartment building on top of route 88 - Why does the developer need a 4,500 square foot office. That’s almost as big as a wedding hall! What else is being planned in that space? We need the whole story. It seems like someone is trying to pull a fast one on us..

  4. Another 300 cars at rt 88 and Main street the traffic by npgs from Monmouth is a 10 minute back up daily.

    1. Make that a 30 minute backup if this applicant gets to stuff up the already crowded downtown area even more. All u need is one little fender bender after a tenant tries making a left turn out of the proposed building onto Rt 88, and the entire infrastructure gets shut down. You may as well bring a gemara w/ a shtender because you’ll be sitting there for almost the entire first or second seder.

  6. Who is Hampton Development? What is the name of the owner?
Why should people be permitted to stay anonymous?

    1. How can this applicant try getting away with being only 9 feet away from one of the busiest roadways in Lakewood? This means that the many pedestrians and baby strollers will have to walk almost literally alongside all the cars & trucks.

We demand that the Board not give in, on even one inch on the required 25 foot setback. Safety should come before profit!! He can have a smaller building that’s built in accordance with the zoning ordinance and keep the neighborhood safe and less trafficked.

  7. Not much use in protesting this building. With all the back room deals, by the time this reaches the zoning board meeting, it'a practically a done deal. The problem with the development in Lakewood is not only that they're building. It's that there's no preplanning. This has happened so many times before and is still happening. If you're putting up a large structure in a congested area, did you widen the road first or try to alleviate the traffic situation in other ways before you approve it? Are they being procative instead of reactive to a mess of a situation?

    1. Of course there’s benefit to objecting this proposal. The board members cannot keep ignoring the protesting public. I don’t care what kind of side benefits they might get.

    2. Yes they can keep ignoring the protesting public. They’ve been doing it for 15 years.

    3. Except if you hire the correct lawyer to fight it. Ask the Westgate crowd for his name. He’s amazing! He even gets shuls stopped.

  8. Then they'll go crying to the (broke) state to widen Rt 88...

  9. This is standard shtick to ask for a ridiculous application and getting approved for something smaller which is what they initialy planned on getting. The cost to the tax payers is not considered

  10. I just found out that the huge apartment building on Main Street is on the lot which has the current Dinaso Lumber on it. It turns out that the developer bought the entire lot from bankruptcy for relatively cheap. This means that even if he constructs a much smaller building that actually makes sense, he will still turn a hefty profit. There’s absolutely no reason to supply him with all kinds of crazy variances, so he can make even more money at the public’s expense!!

    1. @askan, maybe personal greed should not be allowed to cause more hardship to the residents, but that's exactly what has been happening in Lakewood for the at least 20 years. The building wasn't done with any planning for the good of Lakewood, only for greed. That's why a beautiful town has turned into an ugly, congested city. It's difficult to stop a long standing minhag.

    3. u call lakewood an " ugly congested city" ? what a daas baal habayis , it is one of the most beautiful mekomos outside e"y kein yirbu . yes theres traffic but most of us do things in the car... u have everything bruchnius ubegashmius unheard of a few decades ago ... traffic... traffic...

    4. When I called Lakewood ugly, I was of course referring to the gashmiyus. I came to Lakewood probably before you were born precisely because of the ruchnius. That doesn't mean that the gashmius has not deteriorated. And I don't only mean traffic. I mean congestion in the neighborhoods, the stores, etc. I understand growth. B"H for growth in klal yisroel! But growth and development have to be done with the proper planning. The lack of planning and the issuing of variances for years is due to greed. I am not jealous in the least. B'H I don't have to be jealous. But I do care if anyone makes money on the backs of others, which has ocurred and is still ocurring in Lakewood.
