No Mail in Ballot option for LFD vote

No Mail in ballot option for LFD vote on fire district website.  During Covid19 when township meetings are held online Lakewood residents will have to go and vote in person at the  fire station  to approve or deny a  capital expense increase of $650,000 that will be added to the budget. Residents complained about the timing as it take place during the first night of Chanuka. The following comment was submitted

"They also did this on a special date instead  of doing at a election so no one should come.

Their meetings have been online due to covid but this they have no problem with. Shame on them".

  1. You ridiculed mail in voting for months; suddenly you're changing tunes.

    1. Ridiculed or not, the voting, meetings, and Township activities are all online because it was deemed to dangerous, what changed?

  2. The FD has always had their own elections and as such they are doing it this way again. They aren't here to get you. They are being very open about what is up for vote and what the money will be spent on. This has nothing to do with the first night of Chanukah. Also it's way after lighting time so there is no issue coming there. And at least you have a say in their budget. Try that with the township committee.

    1. Actually we don't have a say. Even if it's rejected, the township committee can decide to authorize it anyway like they've done in the past. So it's really a farce.

    2. why do they always have their elections at the most inconvenient times possible?

  3. So write the commisioners a letter saying you want voting to be the same time as all the other elections. Its the citizens town and they get to decide what happens.

Also if you don't like the township committee maybe it's time to change them out?

All I can say is from being a FF I see no games being played. Everything is out in the open. As I said before Lakewood is growing and we need more resources. The kids keep talking on our radios so we need to upgrade them. We recently got a full time paid chief because we needed one (from the growth). We need more equipment as we respond to more and more fires each year. It's part of Lakewood going from a town to a city.

    1. If this was above board it could easily have been done at a more convenient time.

And like I said before, why does the commissioner need a $125k vehicke, why do the taxpayers need to buy an administrator a vehicle? What kind of lights cost $90k? How many square ft is this $190k roof, the firehouse is not that big.
