Non Residents Serving on Township Boards

For someone to serve on the township committee or the Local Board of  Ed they must legally reside and live in Lakewood. After all they are voting on and making decisions that impact the people who pay the taxes and live in the town and use its resources and services. This rule for some reason does not apply to many other township boards where decisions are made that have a direct impact on the local residences.

There are non Lakewood residents who are currently serving as members of various township boards such as the MUA, LIC, Planning & Zoning boards. They have the power to vote on budgets and on applications that do not affect them or their pocket but do impact the quality of life for Lakewood residents. Why is this allowed?

  1. It's not allowed, they moved out recently, and haven't attended meeting ever since they moved out. That's for some. For some boards it doesn't matter. And some there different types of appointees, depending on what class board member one is, some need to live in the township and some don't need to.

  3. This is to allow experts in those areas to be on a board even if they are not residents.

    2. That is a bunch of garbage. Several of these board members are far from being called "experts". They received their positions based purely on cronyism. They have no other qualifications and seem to not even have a proper grasp of what they're voting on. In fact, if someone were to be an expert, that would most likely disqualify them from serving - because the special interests don't want someone too smart to start asking too many relevant questions about lucrative applications. There are a few members on the MUA who although they live in Lakewood, they do not reside in the MUA's service area and will suffer zero impact from the decisions they make. These individuals are there simply because they're either married to, very connected to, or are owed favors from, the committeemen.

  5. The LIC has a guy getting a monthly allowed for a private car on top of the 160k yearly salary another family member getting 2k monthly for marketing
The LiC keeps all the funding it gets from land sales in the industrial park and uses it for pet projects instead of putting it back into the Township coffers

  6. Just saw the Jackson JJCC list of askanim, I see some names that appear to be connected to the Vaad “old boys club”. I hope Jacksonites are smart enough to learn from Lakewood’s mistakes.

  7. The LIC and LDC should be disbanded and abolished it costs millions to the taxpayers for all the favors and corruption. They are by design a legal way to circumvent the traditional way of conducting township business with no oversight to the public since they are appointed and not elected. They sell township properties by avoiding public scrutiny and use the funds for themselves by creating more paid positions and programs for the well connected while they draw big salaries and have to have separate lawyers commissioners and chairman. The Township committee is just as responsible for allowing the corruption and looking the other way giving these ad-hoc boards carte blanc with taxpayer money.

  8. Because, fair and square, factually and legally, Class-II members of the planning board do not need to reside in the municipality. Do your research!
