  1. Thank you Torah Umsora for causing the schools to jack up our tuitions. Don't see how you accomplished anything except giving yourself pats on the backs.

    1. I'm not sure whose fault it is but if both parents are not working at this point you cant make it work.
There is a special ed school somewhere ( not necessarily lkwd) that's is charging almost double child tax credit for one kid. I dont know how and what money is being used to pay and obviously they need to charge but it's not a normal thing that you should be charging the same amount as elementary school and you only do half a day if therapy is being covered from government funding.

    2. Forget about TU - Do you realize that everything went up? Why in the world should someone go into the teaching field? Can you explain how it makes any sense to go into the teaching field today for 25/30k when you can go to an office for 50k? A basic job in Lakewood which was 30k a couple of years ago is now starting at 50k shouldn't teachers also get a 20k raise - the 2 fields used to have a very similar starting salary. How about stating how much your salaries went up so we can see if the teachers are on par with you.

    3. Teachers teach half a day. Office staff works a whole day

    4. I agree teachers should get paid more. But the point is, TU went around like they were saving Klal Yisroel by giving the teachers raises. When in fact,it is coming off the already overburdened middle class. So no real solution. We do need to find one (like lowering our standard of living).

    5. According to your logic why was a starting medical biller making the same/similar amount a couple of years ago?
The fact is you need someone to be a teacher it has to be a salary that you can make a living from - how can someone stay or go into that field and make a parnassah? I guess you don't factor in speaking to parents etc. or preparing? I assume you wont complain when the the full time daycare starts charging more? its no half day for them..

    6. Two points- 1) teachers might only be in the actual classroom for half of the day, but you are not counting the hours spent at home, preparing, speaking to parents regarding concerns they have, helping their students, writing lesson plans, report cards etc. 2) Schools are not necessarily raising their tuitions to give raises. Many schools did fundraising for that and TU is kicking in as well. Tuition raises are also because the costs of everything have gone up. The same way it costs you more to go to the grocery today that it did 2 years ago, it costs the school much more to pay for supplies, cleaning crews and everything that goes in to a schools budget. It is not only to cover raises.

    1. My question exactly!

    2. What is so difficult to understand?? If an event that is just for Kovod Hatorah is not enough for you, then you definitely do not belong there. Honoring the ones who uphold our world and protect us all is worthy enough for me. The Gemara says they were Mevatel Talmud Torah Mipnei Kovod Hatorah so what is so hard to get?

    3. Hahaha!
How is stuffing a stadium 'kvod Hatorah'? What does one thing have to do with another?
ות ואין כבוד התורה אלא לעשות על פי חוקיה ומשפטיה
This event is nonsense, and it is a bizayon of the yungeleit that an event is demanding that they come, without even telling them the purpose. Nobody knows who will speak there. Nobody is taking achrayus for it, besides an anonymous organization.
If people actually had any Kavod Hatorah, they would boycott events like this.

      Delete
    4. You are obviously beyond any comprehension of Kovod Hatorah so just leave it at that. As was said over from R' Elya Chaim Swerdloff- "if you don't understand, you obviously do not understand what Kovod Hatorah is". Everyone knows that R' Dovid Cohen from Chevron is speaking as well as the Rosh Yeshiva R' Malkiel and I have heard R' Efraim Wachsman. What type of achrayus are you looking for?? You can gladly boycott this event if you want to. And also- no is demanding anyone to come, not sure where you got that from.

      Delete
    5. So instead of actually explaining where the kavod hatorah is, the answer is 'you don't understand'.
Maybe you don't understand, but it is a bizayon for yungeleit to fill a stadium.

We should all be boycotting it. Not because we want to fight it, but because our time is worth more than that.

    6. I second it being a complete waste of time and most definitely not a manifestation of kavod torah — more like bitul torah

Regardless, it seems extremely infantile and narcissistic for a large group of people to gather together to congratulate themselves on how great they are and hear others carry on about how wonderful they all are

  9. We’ve done this to ourselves. Aside from the etzem avlah of handicapping our boys vis a vis parnasah, had all yeshivos - litvish and chasidish - given their boys important life skills such as basic literacy in english, math and science, there never would have been disgruntled graduates who feel they were deprived of a basic education and are unable to interact with general society in an economically beneficial way that are complaining to the state which in turn may introduce toeva related topics in addition to rightful core enforcement.

    1. If the government was only going after Yeshivas that give a subpar English education then it would be possible to be enough of a useful idiot as to believe what you are saying. The way things currently actually are there is no room for such idiocy.

    2. Not sure why you have to use derogatory names. If it's a good point you have, it could be brought out with nice language as well.
If all the jewish schools would teach secular subjects like the modern schools, this issue would have never come up to begin with.

    4. None of these "Disgruntled" activists (Yaffed) group are from the "Litvishe" Yeshivos
In the Litvishe Yeshivos the boys and girls speak English at home and school with out an accent
And all Litvishe Yeshivos have a full English curriculum in their Elementary schools Grades 1 thru 8
And most of not all have a full English curriculum in High school
The Mir does, Chaim Berlin Does , Torah Vodas , Kminetz they all do

    5. Ok, so we can all blame the chasidim. What’s your point? Do you expect the gov to differentiate between shades of orthodoxy?

    6. While we ought to actively support and do support standing up to NY board, face it, the level of education of our schools needs to be raised.

      1. We should stop comparing ourselves to public schools of these days. We are expected to be Better than that. We should compare ourselves to of the 1960s when New York was on a very respectable level.
      2. Education would be a very important outlet for
so many youth( and parents ) who are messing around online

For many calling shots on top of our communities, proper education is very intimidating. Though sufficient censorship will be necessary.

    7. The current version of right wing orthodoxy unfortunately does not bring out
Apparently ultra-orthodox/chareidi Judaism, with all that it is doing right, is missing a few crucial components to bring it over the finish line to universal admiration

    10. Yuval Noah Hariri has a whole thesis that with the soon to be coming move to automation there's little use for most people going to work.

A certain wealthy member of the Jewish community said: if he's not making a million dollars a year there's little purpose in working.

So there are those with attitudes on the other side.

But the guy who made the mossad and in many cases pumped in hundreds of thousands of his own money fir the first many years to make payroll ,he definitely should not have the chutzpah to fly anywhere.

  20. The new 'location' for the non-event with secret speakers takes twice the time to travel than the original 'location'.
37 minutes vs 1hr 14 minutes, according to Google.
Why not some more time wasting? After all, it's only yungeleit's time? What else are they doing with their time?
And they use the words 'כבוד התורה' to describe it..................

No yungerman gets respected by having his time wasted on a trip to Philadelphia. The Yungeleit should stay in Beis Hamedrash, it is less disrespectful

    5. I am glad that you all know better than the Rabbonim and Roshei Yeshiva who are gladly supporting this ma'amad. Maybe we should set up a time where you can all meet them and give them your opinion that they are wrong and the event has no reason. I am sure they would love to hear

      Delete
    6. Speak to the Rabbonim and ask why they signed. You might be surprised how little they think of the event. They signed because not signing would mean making trouble, and they don't need trouble in their lives.

Even now, with the best PR people on the job, they can't spin a story and explain why anyone should be there.
