  2. The rising playgroup prices Rabboisaii!! When's it going to end... young families will never be able to own houses, make chasunas/simchas. They will never be able to retire!! OYYYYYYYY

  3. Men should get a real education that can support a family properly — as per their kesubah obligation — and women should stay home and tend to their own kids
There shouldn’t be such demand for childcare

    2. Without getting into philosophical discussions- on a practical level #1 even with an education it is Very hard to support a family unless one is very successful a150k salary doesnt do the trick #2 if everyone in the community would make 250k just imagine how costs would rise and 250k would not do It either . So its not so simple.

    3. Anon 10:19 - you are an Am Ha'aretz. The Kesubah does not say that a man needs to get an education, you should educate yourself about the Kesubah. A man that does not work, has not neglected his Kesubah obligations. See Tosfos in Kesubos for more info.

Even according to R”T you most definitely need to become self employed — I never said anything about becoming an employee necessarily — just getting competitively skilled enough to support your family

In any event, many say that R”Ts shitah was based on the agrarian society that he lived in (King Philip didnt confiscate Jewish property before 1182 which was after R”T was nifter) when people were farmers and supported themselves from their own land, nowadays he’d most likely agree to employment as it is the norm

Plus don’t forget about Rabeinu Eliyahu that holds that the husband is obligated to work for someone else if need be to satisfy his obligations

      Delete
    7. R"T does not say you have to be 'self-employed', nowhere.
Agrarian society has nothing to do with anything.
Your am haaratzus is showing again.

R”T says explicitly the husband needs to engage in farming

    9. R"T was aware that there were regions where Jews with not allowed to own land surely even in his days

    1. Please explain why the playgroup is charging more? Why doesn't the morah just rely on Hashem that she'll be fine without charging the parents so much more than she used to?? Why don't you tell HER to RELAX?!

    2. Exactly! Everyone needs to relax Hashem can take care of the playgroup morah and you too.

  5. Playgroup & more daily kvetches.
To stop the inflation the rabbonim have sighned kol korea asking youngerleit to open up & run the playgroups . So from here on there will be more playgroups in town & prices will now be $200 a month. Enough with the morah crisis. Now we can pick on the developers & cleaning ladies.

    1. Hats off to you. Out of curiosity, do define real. In any event Rambam writes : דֶּרֶךְ בַּעֲלֵי דֵּעָה שֶׁיִּקְבַּע לוֹ אָדָם מְלָאכָה הַמְפַרְנֶסֶת אוֹתוֹ תְּחִלָּה. וְאַחַר כָּךְ יִקְנֶה בֵּית דִּירָה. וְאַחַר כָּךְ יִשָּׂא אִשָּׁה

      Delete
    2. Whats real about your education?

      Delete
    3. you can have whatever opinion you want but don't blame it on the Rambam. The Rambam clearly was te biggest proponent of the kollel lifestyle/shitas Rav Shimon amongst the Rishonm and famously wrote "lo shevet levi bilvad" but anyone who desires to sit and learn all day should do so and the community is obligated to support him. the rambam himself was a kollel yungerman for most of his life and was supported by his brother, as he writes in his famous letter.

      Delete
    4. You’re completely distorting his words

He says (approx) that HaShem will be mazmin him davar hamaspik lo if his intentions are pure

He actually says more than a few times, in fiery language, in no uncertain terms, that it is a massive chillul haShem to learn Torah and throw yourself on the community for support

He invested capital with his brother as is well known

He doesn’t even bring yisachar/zevulun in his mishneh torah

      Get your facts straight

      Delete
    5. again, you can have your own opinion but you really should stop distorting the Rambam. he clearly says that anyone can accept to be like shevet levi. also, no kollel men are "throwing themselves on the community for support." you receive more from "the community" than they do. the rambam also says that even people who work should not work more than 3 hours a day and should spend the majority of their time learning. working like people do today - meaning working for 10-14 hours a day and playing with an artscroll gemara for half an hour at night is definitely very far from any ideal.

    6. Guess I’ll hafta copy and paste for you

    1. Correct. I didn’t want to quote the end of the Rambam as it is a bit harsh but here goes : אֲבָל הַטִּפְּשִׁין מַתְחִילִין לִשָּׂא אִשָּׁה וְאַחַר כָּךְ אִם תִּמְצָא יָדוֹ יִקְנֶה בַּיִת וְאַחַר כָּךְ בְּסוֹף יָמָיו יְחַזֵּר לְבַקֵּשׁ אֻמָּנוּת אוֹ יִתְפַּרְנֵס מִן הַצְּדָקָה

      3. Those who quote him most Cherrypick slyly as much anyone. For example: he's more stringent re: gender relations, obligations to enforce mitzvos, etcetera, more than most Others. For that those who love to quote him go Elsewhere adeptly.

Most those travelling are likely not playgroup morahs or morahs in general. I do hope that those travelling are not part of the witch-hunt to keep playgroup morahs salaries hovering somewhere between starvation and malnutrition.

  16. Mora salaries are between starvation and malnutrition? Do you have a clue how expensive playgroup is? Btw I’m not leaving Lakewood for sukkos, I haven’t in many many years. You are referring to a select few who do not even remotely represent Lakewood.

  17. Bh there are enough manhigei yisroel and don't think they would agree that today we should first look for a parnossa and then get married.
Finding a Rambam or other shitos without asking our gedolei yisroel is not very smart when it comes to hashkofo.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Do todays manhigim ever tell anyone to go to work?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Do you consider yourself above the torah? Regardless if manhigim tell people to go to work, everyone needs to consult with their daas torah.
One thing is very clear that the Hefkervelt Bloggers etc definitely do not have the authority and daas torah to decide what the young men of this generation need to do. It sounds to me like alot of the individuals commenting are frustrated individuals who can not learn all day and are attempting to justify their own guilt by imposing these ideas on others. The truth is there is no room for this guilt as long as you are kovea itim latorah as much as you can according to your situation and you are living your life to its fullest, you are being memale your tafkid, sometimes even more than a yungerman a talmid chacham who doesn't fill his day with torah and avodah to its capacity.
(Albeit that does ņot necessarily mean he needs to go out and work...)

      Delete
    2. There is more to fulfilling a tafkid than that

  19. One of the codewords of the שונאי תורה in our generation is 'Kesubah'. They hate the idea that a tiny minority of our society has dedicated their lives to living poor and learning and knowing Torah, and their wives have willingly signed up for this, so they bleat about chupah and misquote Rishonim.
We are not Geirim, we have a Shulchan Aruch that taught us about taking Kollel money as well as about women agreeing to support the family while the husband learns.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Even if one wants to claim that the current kollel situation is a planned and coordinated horaas shaah post shoah, (which is highly debatable, given that any and all guys, even fellows that are not successful in full time torah learning partake en masse) and not just something that happened, still and all, chazon ish himself said it’s a 70 year thing, which has come and gone.

Time to stop shirking your responsibilities, and support your families with dignity. Your kids deserve, and you owe it to them, to have their mothers — fully present and unharried — raise them with your economic support

Even the kovner kollel, which all others come from, had a max 3 year program geared to create rabbanim

Enough with hiding behind slogans and ad hominem attacks, and disingenuously invoking daas torah and poskim

It’s a great job market now

    Take advantage!
