  1. Sad to see how far we have fallen that the first week of Elul was deemed a great night to make an event with a mixology bar, hookah lounge, and freshly rolled cigars. I am not even discussing the concept of such events in general, but do it in June or an other time, but the first week of Elul?? Nebach....

    1. Think about it from the perspective of all the sick people that they help they need to wait for all the high rollers to get back from summer vacation this is sadly but realistically what is needed nowadays to get out the vote to the contrary during this month people are more inclined to give a significant amount of tzedakah and btw there’s nothing wrong with enjoying life a little while you do I don’t believe it is anti the spirit of the high holy days Elul is anyways an extension that is more for yeshivaleit as has scant sources is Halacha that’s what the ten days of repentance are for

    3. Making disparaging comments about events that are private is pure loshon hora. Not appropriate a gantz yohr, nisht nor Elul! And what of being dan lchaf zechus as to the need to have such an event? Please remove comment. Ty

    4. Sorry, the events are not private. Bikur Cholim is a public organization, they claim to the hospitals that they represent the public, nobody can enter into competition with them and they claim that they help all of us.
They owe an answer to the public.

    1. I’m sure he’s done a lot but do realize that a lot of it is most probably about the relationships he’s fostered there in addition to his lobbying expertise It’s not easy to start from the ground up although if local players do have relationships in place maybe he could counsel them on maximizing them Additionally do realize New Jersey is not Ohio

    2. Much easier than it may appear to the public.
      A) Turn a safe conservative Leaning State into a swing state.
      B) Once that where it's holding, both parties and everyone else are ready to throw money to you. Who cares once the trends start snowballing if it may eventually end up,say,New Jersey
New Jersey was once in similar situation

    3. Compare with NYC, a democratic stronghold turned during the 90's and shortly thereafter to a swing city now back to being solid Democrat
Gelt, even for purposes as worthy as tuition vouchers can't cannot bring lasting positive change. It should be treated as a collateral byproduct of larger causes

    1. Don't understand why is it necessary for mosdos hatorah and chessed of Lakewood to go all out.
Isn't there a limit how far we are going to raise money.
Do the end justify the means?
Is that the message we are relaying to our children.
      Someone needs to speak up!
      Hashem yishmereinu!

    1. This is absolutely not loshon horah.
Sorry the event is published in this article with all of the details.
No one is talking about other people. The comments are about this behavior and voicing an opinion that it is an unacceptable standard for the ihr hatorah Lakewood.
Perhaps calling this loshon horah is motzi shem ra! LOL

  7. The traffic mess this morning from the new kamenitz school on Ridge Avenue was terrible! Why didn't the school make themselves a normal-sized parking lot?? People are very upset.

  9. How sad that organisations have to spend at least 40 percent of their funds for lavish events, so a bunch of guys could enjoy themselves and the average person just gets a link to the campaign page and a big chunk of the money goes to some chilled guys to enjoy themselves

  10. It's a lifestyle we shun and don't want ourselves or children to live by but to raise some money for tzedaka everything is mutter. This is so disgusting and not a zechus for a refuah shleima same with a bike ride for sick children having ladies dress pritzusdig and bike for the kids is not bringing the machla away it ican CV be more of a kitrug RL

  11. Sad how low Lakewood has fallen.
People only give tzedakah when there's volleyball leagues with hookah bars and meat boards....
    What about tzedakah leshmah?
Sad about the tzedakah org. That's how you promote the tzedakah?

    1. People only go to chasunahs if there's good food. People only go to Yeshiva if there's coffee. People only go to hakafos if there's good food. Its the way people are. (Except in WG)

  12. Unfortunately Lakewood is not what it used to be and this lifestyle you say we shun is not shunned by the majority of Lakewood.

  13. You guys are taking it all wrong. Night at the Net was created by a private individual. The first few years of its existence the tzedaka was raised for different institutions. A few years ago, it was decided that Bikur Cholim will be the benfactor for the next number of years. Night at the Net came first, Bikur Cholim joined after.
Its billed as a Mens Night Out. It will happen for tzedaka or not for tzedaka. Might as well make it a Fundraiser.

  14. Perhaps. Or perhaps it is inappropriate for us to allow them to pat each other on the back how wonderfully righteous these events are? And a bad example for the young 'uns?

  15. Leaving a Sefer Torah in full view in an unlocked vehicle is the absolute height (or low point) of irresponsibilty!! It's so infuriating to read about such carelessness.
