Bein Hazmanim at the Beach

Please note going in water without a life guard is dangerous. This is for those looking for fresh ocean air or to play in the sand.

Lakewood is close proximity to the Jersey shore but for obvious tznius reasons most beaches are not accessible.  However there are some spots one can go to during off peak hours usually on the weekdays or in the evenings.
-Island beach state park - has usually just fishing during the week - exit 83 on the parkway. There is a fee to enter but you can find a private stretch.

-Ocean Avenue in W. Long Branch after 5:30

-Mantoloking, drive down Cederbridge all the way go over a bridge Take the road after the bridge to the end  you hit rt 35 Make a right at the light  the road runs along the beach. To the left there are small side streets you can park for the beach. or you can park on side streets to the right. After 5-6 pm you can enter without a pass

-Sandy Hook gateway national recreation area. This park is 45 minutes from Lakewood free entrance on weekdays  lots of beaches and during the week you can find lots of empty secluded areas as you go further out. Take rt 36 to the end. Picnic areas available.

  3. Bein hazmanim on the beach? A Ben Torah doesn’t belong on a beach.

  4. The yungerleit don’t need the beach. They get an almost free vacation in the poconos because they don’t work. If you are a Ben Torah who happens to work to pay your bills and help the yungeleit sorry but you’re not eligible. We don’t like working people, the only important ones are those in yeshiva and a shtickel the rebbeim.

But even if it was true, what is wrong? How did we arrive at a belief system that everyone has to be equal? There is nothing wrong with working, but we have a special place in our hearts for Shevet Levi who live only for Torah. How does anyone see that as a bad thing?

    2. Pls dont take it personally. It is really not, pls understand the assumption is that generally those that are in kollel full time are tight on money and there are those that are looking to help them out .

  6. The bad thing is when everyone who works to help you guys gets burned without any of the perks you guys get. This is confirmed to be true so please do your research before accusing anyone of lying.

    1. "You guys" , I would suggest you dont refer to those that learn Torah in that form - the gemara says that one who says "these rabanan" is an apikores

    2. well, since we're generalizing here, i think us working men should be aware that we only live in Lakewood because of the bnei Torah. They are the ones who built the community and we are benefitting from what they built. the working men, many of whom had no previous connection to bmg, moved here and have a place to live on the backs of the bnei Torah. we also raised the cost of living for them substantially and infringed on their standard of ruchnius by inundating lakewood with loads of gashmius. at the very least, it makes no sense to be living in lakewood as a result of what the bnei torah built and, at the same time, to have tainos on the bnei torah for not giving us more stuff. by the way, even if you gave a few bucks to adirei hatorah, you still should realize that if you own a home in lakewood you gained a lot more financially from them than they did from you and also you cost them a lot more money by raising the cost of housing here than you gave them with your donation.

Be aware that Mantaloking is an unfriendly town. I'm told by a local lawyer that public restrooms are only in the municipal building/ police department. Tickets are given to people, who are desperate, but unaware of restroom location

Your comment doesn’t make too much sense but I will try to help you anyway.
    1. The majority of working men here (except some that moved here in the last few years) learned in BMG for many years.
    2. I and most regular working men did not raise the cost of living, we are victims of it just like the yungeleit in yeshiva.
    3. You refer to us as the “working men” and them as the “bnei Torah”. I am referring to bnei Torah who happen to work part of the day.
    4. Nobody asked for the yungeleit to “give” us anything.
    5. We are costing bmg and the yungeleit money? Are you kidding? In what way? Do you have a clue how much BMG made off us when we were there and even now?

    1. i was responding to the guy who called bnei torah "you guys" and said that he wanted them to give him "perks" because he "helps you guys". i'm assuming that wasn't you but i'll try to help you out anyway.

  11. I think all can agree that people who are in kollel who seek to be better off financially get a job. People with jobs trying to be better off financially dont go to BMG. So let's not make like the avg person in kollel is raking it in.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Not raking it in but benefiting from a lot of perks not available to working bnei Torah and in many cases they are better off. Yungeleit don’t realize how much they are really making until they go to work and they see how much all those programs they now lost are worth not to mention the perks such as very cheap vacations, clothing, food for yt etc etc. I’ve been down both roads.

  13. I should but it takes time to get approved for all those benefits and I have to live in the meantime.

  14. The best is to become a rebbi. You make a good salary, get free or reduced tuition, collect all the programs, and get cheap vacations, clothing, food for yt etc.
