Sunday April 18 News Updates Lakewood

- 14 new covid cases in Lakewood. deaths now at 300. Totals 13519/300

-Hachtara of Harav Shmuel Fishoff shlita who will become the Rav of Bais Mesrash D' Brookwood in Jackson. It will take place tjis Wednesday  at the KBT simcha hall  304 Monmouth ave Lakewood

- A Lakewood resident filed a lawsuit this week claiming that Lakewood Township's Zoning Board did not follow its legal requirements when, on February 1 it approved a building with 99-unit residential apartments and social hall on Route 88 at Monmouth Avenue. (LNN)

- Two Lakewood police officers injured in knife attack, treated for minor wounds The attack was reported to be in the area of Lisa Robyn Circle, which is the location of Andrew’s Corner Apartments on New Hampshire avenue and Route 70. (app)

- Hanhala of Brisk yeshiva R' A"Y has notified all bochurim ftom Chutz laaretz  they can not rely on their kosher phone from abroad and that the yeshiva will supply kosher phones to the bochurim. Israeli media reports this is the first time the yeshiva has addressed the smartphone issue and get involved in this manor with the talmidim. There was no official directive from the R"Y only from the hanhala.

- In a court filing on Friday, the Justice Department argued that Timothy Hale-Cusanelli, an alleged Nazi sympathizer who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, should not be released from jail because he poses a threat to Jewish residents in Lakewood. "Defendant poses a more localized threat to the community, particularly the Hassidic community in Lakewood, New Jersey which is near the Navy base where he worked before his arrest. Defendant has  expressed a desire to commit violence against Jewish people" (CNN. HT Reporter S. Schorr) 

-Concerns in Miron by hachnosas orchim and Tzidkas Rashbi after authorities plan to prohibit distribution of food and drinks to the thousands who will attend due to covid health concerns. Askanim reached out to the frum MK's to let them distribute food in a safe way as it will be a great danger not to feed the crowds of over hundred thousand people.

    Brisk has an Hanhala other than R' A"Y?

    That sure wasn't case when I learned there twenty five years ago. Reb Moishle gave shuir and some of the other brothers had influence but no one considered them as "hanhala" anymore than a Rosh Chabura in BMG is considered on the hanhala of BMG.

    Who is the hanhala these days? What do they do?

  4. Do you know if Brisk has a policy regarding internet in the diras? Mir apparently does, but Brisk might be less involved with the day-to-day activities of the Bochurim. . .

    1. Brisk had no policy on these treifene keilim when I was there in the 90's. Kashere gelt can't anyways be used to buy treifos.

  6. 20 years ago every dira had internet we all had online phone service all you meeded to do was plug in a laptop and you had high speed internet
