  1. If they treat the Bochum like babies, they will grow up like babies. You can bet your bottom dollar that the minute they leave Lakewood, they’ll be getting the newest smartphone out there. (And that’s only if they don’t get one behind the scenes in Yeshiva)
Treat them like adults and they will act like adults.

    1. Aha. So you as an anonymous armchair hefkervelt commentator know more than Gedolei Roshei Yeshiva. Very impressive. Maybe you should let everyone know who you are so we can benefit from your expertise. Why stay anonymous??

    3. JB - if you honestly think that lies will help us, you need serious help. For some reason, chassidim think that forcing people to hide their smartphone will make their society holier. We all know that is not true. Lies never helped anyone.

    4. The point is to keep the yeshivos free zones of open smartphone use.
Any serious yeshiva bochur or yungerman feels no need to get a smartphone while they are in yeshiva, there is a need to keep that feeling among yeshivaleit.
No one has any notions that those who want to have it while in yeshiva will not get it, but if it's kept under the surface it's very beneficial for the ruach of the yeshiva

    5. Hidden smartphones are beneficial for the ruach of the Yeshiva. Sounds like a plan..........

It will look good, it will smell good to the person passing by, and fluff articles will be written about it. But the system of sheker will start the rot in the bowels of the Yeshiva. It won't be immediately visible, but it will never disappear. It will flourish and grown, and eventually take over the whole mossad. When the mossad erupts as a cesspool of iniquity, nobody will realize how it was the sheker of 'hide your smartphones' that started it all off.

Nothing worthwhile gets built with Sheker. Even if it seems otherwise in the short term.

    6. Hold on, take a chill pill.
It's not sheker if you don't tolerate blatant disregard to no smartphone use.
It doesn't take a genius to see that smartphones are detrimental to yeshiva ruach.
I'm they would like to have it totally banned from the yeshiva but they aren't stupid and they know that it's going to be there somewhat, but if it stays out of the public it has some benefit.
The only mosdos that are going to rot are the ones who don't take this problem as seriously as they should.

  2. According to what We heard yesterday from Horav Wachsman Shlit'a there is no such thing as a Kosher phone. Yeshivah Bochrim who are 'ahrein-getaune' in learning have absolutely no good reason to own or possess a cell phone ever - Kosher or Not..

    1. So if you treat them like ‘ahrein-getune’ they’ll see themselves that way and act that way. If make them sign stuff, you’re showing them that you don’t trust them, they won’t act better than you expect from them.

  4. The bochrim who were at the asifa most likely didnt need any of these takonos.

The bochrim who need these takonos were mostly out on road trips or on bein hazmanim jobs. So what was the point of the asifa

  5. So the Brisker Yeshiva is planning on 'shtelling tzu' to this?!

For some reason, Lakewood is takannahed up to the gazoo, and we still have arsonists in Yeshivos. We still have streetloads of bochurim who don't have what to do bein hazmanim. Yes, many are learning. But until they figure out a way to reach the considerable number who are not, they are not 'Gedolei Rosh Yeshivos', they are 'Gedolei accepters', who know which bochurim to accept and which to reject.

  10. for some reason, i suspect that the people who have a problem with the smartphone asifa also have smartphone problems of their own.

    1. No one has a problem with the Asifa. We have a problem with the way the treat the bochurim. Tell the bochurim how hood they are and how Klal Yisroel needs them, etc. and they’ll see themselves as choshuv enough that a smartphone is beneath them.
Make them sign your takanos and the bochurim will say well they expect that I’ll get a smartphone so if I get one, it’s expected of me anyway, so it’s not that bad.
