- Zoning board members approve a 99 unit apartment building on the corner of rt 88 and Monmouth ave in Lakewood at the former lumberyard location. The vote was 5-2 with members saying that traffic was a major concern. Residents from nearby Midtown circle went on record to oppose it out of traffic and safety concerns. The public comments portion lasted for all but a few minutes and  members were rushed to vote on the application while they asked for more time.  Some Board members questioned what safety issues could there be and said there already is traffic regardless. They also mentioned the great design for the building and the 256 parking spots. Attorneys said that this will help people from living in basements and they wont  have to drive to go shopping since it is walking distance to the downtown. It was pointed out that they the developers can ask  for a tax abatement even though they dont intend to do so. Lawyers for applicant said that although it will not bring in ratables like retail, it is still the best use for the area and the 1 bedroom apts means less children. All uses of the simcha hall buissness center will be restricted for residents only and no outside use.

  1. Hogwash!
    1) People in 1 bedroom apartments don’t need a Simcha hall. Maybe a kiddush here and there, but they will rent it out.
    2) Who goes shopping downtown anymore?
    It’s one big JOKE.

  2. Did anyone expect that this wouldn't be approved. Like everything in this town, who you know is what matters. Will anyone sue the township when they start making events there, like the recent lawsuit regarding Lake Terrace. It's time to hold the township and zoning board responsible.

  3. Some board members said "there is traffic there already regardless!!" That's the most ridiculous statement! So if there's a problem already there, we can let the problem grow, instead of trying to trying to tame it!! I'm just at a loss for words...

  5. Who is going to want to rent one bedroom apartments? I am single and I need more than one bedroom, for guests, or an office etc.. Newlyweds hope their families will grow n=and moving is costly. No one who wants his family to grow wants to move too often.

  8. I'm confused, if a yid wants to build something on property he owns al pi halacha isn't it mesira (gasp) to complain to the state against him, even if allowed by secular law? Or is mesira only assur when it comes to protecting child abusers and mosdos open during a pandemic?

  9. How is it considered busing from lsta when half the buses didnt show or came 2 hours late. Irresponsible to have kids standing on streets with snow covered sidewalks freezing waiting for buses that did not even show up.
