  1. Could the schools notify parents a bit earlier, boys were waiting for shachris bus at 6:30 and the bus did not show up. LSTA should have a snow number to notify the public.

    1. Parents are expected to utilize basic intellect when a storm is expected and call their respective school’s designated snow numbers. They should not expect the school to do everything for them.

    2. stop blaming parents for the lack of information and indecisiveness coming from lsta and schools
If thee lsta knows well in advance if there is no transportation why cant that information be related to the parents earlier. the public schools cancelled busing last night The school snow numbers are not updated early enough and parents are hitting the redial button all morning long. mesivta bochurim have 6:30 am pick up and they dont know before they leave home if there is no bus coming.

    3. Schools are under a lot of pressure. Nobody wants to be mivatel Torah... Nobody wants to implement a policy that isn't safe... It's a tough call.

    4. Obviously there are those rare situations where the predicted storm conditions are unknown early enough for the schools themselves to make a Yes or No decision on going ahead with the day's in-school sessions.

Nobody wants the students to lose out a day of limud hatorah. In a town like ours which places such great value on educating our future generation, cancelling yeshiva is a very last resort. But at the same time nobody wants students to travel on what could likely become very unsafe roads. In making this balanced and difficult decision, responsible schools must sometimes wait for more information to become available before the final verdict is delivered. There are several factors and entities that are tied in to this complex decision-making process, and as both a teacher and a parent, I salute the schools for their efforts to get things right.

Sometimes however, situations don't end up so perfect. But then again, how perfect is everything else in your life?

    5. There is a difference between transportation and no school. The decision not to have buses go out can be made earlier the schools can decide to stay open or not a bit later once parents will be driving

    6. The decision to not provide buses is not necessarily up to just the school administrator or another singular entity. As I stated earlier, there are several factors and entities involved, including at times, the safety division of our police department. Although you’re correct in your differentiating between opening a school facility and bussing –– and some schools do indeed choose to open their building for those that feel safely able to transport their children on their own –– there are still circumstances that sometimes inhibit an appropriately balanced decision on BOTH of these issues within the tight timeframe that would make it perfect for the parents.

      Enjoy your snow day!

  2. And schools need to have the information available at 6:15 in the morning. My boys leave the house at 6:40 and the school hotline is not updated until 7.

  3. My school's hotline is NEVER updated that early

  4. I'm trying to raise money for a poor family in Lakewood who could only get their kids into school if we agreed to pay their tuition. I was hoping to go around on Purim. Would someone be willing to set up a platform for us? Apparently the platform mentioned in this article is only for mosdos... please email me at keeverweever@aol.com

    1. Who is Bill Gates? Why do you feel the need to inform me about an opinion from someone I never heard of? Should I tell you what yankel shmendrik says about anything.

Please don’t confuse your right to post comments with a privilege to rant nonsense to the world.

  9. I will forever have hakaras hatov to Rush for convincing me to get off government programs and a lifetime of dependency, and to work for my parnasah and become self sufficient. I am a happier person, I feel more fulfilled, and society is better off. My kids have a happier father, and someone to emulate with hard, honest work and responsibility.
Thank you for changing my life for the better.
    RIP Rush!

    3. Here it is the opposite. He is refusing to give, because he never really gave tzedaka. He used to pay for performances.
      What a sick person!
But I am not surprised. Poverty is a special privilege, and Hashem gives it to special people. It's the riffraff that gets rich.
