- Ami magazine interview with Ben Broffman
Do you think there’s been an uptick in scams in our community, or is history just repeating itself?
I wouldn’t necessarily say that there are more of these cases, but the punishment is more severe than it was years ago. Many years ago, if you committed fraud within the community, you either worked out a payment plan with the victims or they didn’t go to the government because you were a friend or neighbor or because of the issue of mesirah, so people didn’t know about it. Today, these types of things are publicized, so knowledge of them has increased.

- Trump  statement on airplane crash:
"The airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport. The helicopter was going straight at the airplane for an extended period of time. It is a CLEAR NIGHT, the lights on the plane were blazing, why didn’t the helicopter go up or down, or turn. Why didn’t the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane. This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented. NOT GOOD!!!"

  1. What a tragic embarrassment that we don't have the rabbinic leadership to step up to chaos and crisis. What an embarrassment that the Ami magazine Discusses and publicizes the dark side of Lakewood.....

    1. The voice magazine also wrote a silly editorial about the issue
Who asked them to bud their nose in something that has nothing to do with them. Since when does a publisher of a magazine dictate to the yeshivos

    2. “Since when does a publisher of a magazine dictate to the yeshivos” is hilarious 😂😂😂

Maybe now something will be done to fix the havoc

    3. when yeshivah leaders act as self serving organizations instead of Mosdos of Harbotzas HaTorah...

    4. So they don't listen to daas torah, the rosh yeshivos, and not the magazines. So who yes? Maybe the gevirim need to step in.

    5. The irony that 10:54am believes that only he is allowed to state his dayos and the publications are not allowed to state their opinions is incredibly hilarious

    6. ab,
The gevirim are launderers of the same mafia

    7. The publications lost their journalistic integrity by not disclosing their negius to issues they tackled. They have an agenda and have zero trust.

    8. Why shouldn't Ami discuss it? What makes them less entitled to do so than everyone commenting here?

    9. It's one thing to report on it but when you write an editorial than it's above your pay grade.

    10. The issue being above their paygrade doesn't stop anyone, anywhere else from sounding off about this.

  2. what does Aguda have against trump?

    1. They hate him
They attacked him non stop in his first term
The agudists did so without asking members of the moetzes as some have expressed shock when aguda put out statements attacking him.
The anti Trumpers within Agudah are elitists who look to find favor with the liberal democrats like Cuomo Murphy and Chuck Schumer..
They are embarrassed that over 90% of klal yisroel frum Jews voted for him and call us as people who were brainwashed by talk radio hosts as Sean Hanitty and Rush Limbaugh

They don't want any association with Trump they can't even hide it anymore

They don't represent a majority of klal yisroel they become more irrelevant by the day as they moved away from the mainstream frum yidden.

    2. Let's understand some of these askanim:

      1) No one likes to acknowledge and recognize that they've made a mistake.

      2) Think of the prisoner who was forced to spin the heavy milstone 12 hours a day, for 25 years. When he was freed, he saw that nothing was produced from all of his labor and that his efforts were all futile. He died from his pain, on the spot.

      3) These askanim spent many, many years pursuing a certain path which they were convinced was the way to go. They officially honored schumer, cuomo and made close connections and relationships with many liberals. They obviously sacrificed a lot and had to do many things which were abhorrent and repulsive to them.

For them to acknowledge that all what they did was futile and in vain is simply too painful for them.

      4) We need a new organization to compete for public statements. Similar to what rabbis Avraham Gordimer and Steven Pruzansky did to the RCA. If done responsibly, you will get the majority of roshei yeshiva, rabonim and chasidic rebbes to sign on.

    3. It is easier to fool people than to show them they were fooled

Exhibit No. 1 - the many Trump voters in town

  3. It's disgusting how some well connected askanim meet with these politicians like Gottheimer and make backroom deals to help themselves and then they go to the sheep and taxpayers convincing us to vote for whoever THEY decided without ever having a chance to see if the candidate is best for us.
    Those days are over.
The shnall bullying campaign with false promises of free tuition is a black stain on the leadership who conned everyone into a gneivas daas of epic proportions

Dear self serving askanim sitting on BOTA offices you don't represent the average Lakewood voter. Stop thinking that you have any right or mandate to tell us who and how to vote.

    1. Who is going to let the public know to not follow the vaad endorsement? 90% of the Lakewood population does not follow politics and blindly votes for whoever is on the paper sent home from their children's schools.

      Delete
    2. All monies promised to Lakewood by vaad endorsed candidates went to specific pet projects of the well connected. The general public has yet to see any benefit as lakewood becomes unaffordable and a parking lot

  4. Who is 'the Beis Din' in London? More specifics necessary.

    1. Rav Padawa dayan Dunner

    2. That is one of three Batei Din in London.

Rav Padwa is unfortunately not in a situation to decree any taaneisim. Dayan ADDunner is just one of the Chavrei Badataz no more than Reb Shalom Friedman etc.

  5. The yeshiva gets the tovas hanooah and the oilam feels that the Yeshiva endorses the Vaad candidates ,which is true. So your problem is with the Roshei yeshiva ,not so much the Vaad.

    1. It’s not called tovas hanooah when it becomes the primary agenda

  6. So the VAAD wakes up when it is time to vote to let you know who to vote for, who will NOT represent us the taxpayer and hamon am. When there is a mesivta acceptance circus not one word from anybody. When the BOE is going broke and soon there wont be any transportation not a word. The emporer has no cloth. We need asap an orginazation that will represent the oilam.

    1. Another organization!

No, what you need is for the hamon am to petition the Roshei Yeshiva to straighten out these problems. And not to rely on their askanim.
Right now, the RYs only get into in fundraising for their yeshivas. And unfortunately (or fortunately, but is another story), that is more than Lakewood sources. So we don't count. As long as talmidim come in, and money comes in, we don't count.

A few months ago, there were a series of (Trump-style) rallies the RYs encouraged. Those weren't for local issues, but for the RY's projects.

  8. Why do you keep happing on the Vaad ? The Vaad us appointed by the RY of BMG. The RY of BMG want the Vaad to represent the interests of BMG while calling it a VAAD of the Town as many years ago the town was essentially BMG. If yih have a problem with that then complain to the RY of BMG. If you respect their authority then leave things as they are .
