If the hostages are not released by the time I take office, there will be hell. There will be no DON'T; there will be hell. The hostages need to be released now."

- The Wall Street Journal editorial sharply attacks US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken for knowing in real time that his criticism of Israel was preventing a deal to release the hostages, and yet they continued with it, and that Biden's political considerations prevented an agreement. The article also accuses Biden of credit for Israel's success in attacking the Iranian axis, even though Biden and his people had been trying to stop Israel's war machine all along.

-Efforts are underway to extend the 60-day ceasefire with Hezbollah to another 30 days to avoid either a premature withdrawal or a return to a full-scale war in the North. US special envoy Amos Hochstein is expected to arrive in Lebanon on Monday to try to preserve the ceasefire deal.

- Amid reports of progress in talks on a hostage-ceasefire deal in Doha, Israeli officials on Sunday sought to temper expectations.
The obstacle in the Doha hostage talks between Israel and Hamas remains the number and names of hostages to be released in the first round. Israel does not believe it can reach a second round, said the official, and is therefore working to maximize the number of hostages released in the first round.(TOI)

  2. In the first half of the 20th century, it was generally understood that Right Wing military Zionism was the variety most opposed to and by Rabbinic Orthodox Judaism. Since Zionism itself was a rejection of the tactics and way of life of European Jewry, the souped up, radical version of Zionism was the most violently opposed. High Herzlian ‘political Zionism’ was formally neutral on religion, though religious Jews were all too aware of its western assimilated character. Labour Zionism was more hostile, but military Zionism was a level beyond. The New Jew envisioned as farmer or proletarian was different to the typical Jew of Europe, for sure, but not inherently antithetical,at least formally. If you told an old-timer Polish Rav that you want to raise chickens, he’d tell you to knock yourself out, but to make sure you had something on the side for parnassah when it’s time to make chasunah. If you told him you wanted to be a nationalist warrior, who embraces the ‘sacred cruelty’ that ‘redeems ordinary evil and transforms it into good’ he’d have a real problem.
