ReplyDeleteChai center is usually a front name used by Lubavitchers.
ReplyDeleteI used to live in next town over from that shul.
DeleteThis "zoning" fight has been going on well over ten years, town just doesn't want Orthodox Jews. Don't think Lubavitch's fight is our fight. They changed the zoning laws ,(to prevent a shul) as soon as the Rav applied for a building permit, and are doing everything to prevent them.
Same as in towns in upstate NY, all over Jersey (remember Roosevelt NJ, that was a yeshivish community)0 used to have them in NYC.
If parents would not send to any camp that is charging over $800 a half, they will come back down in price
ReplyDeleteFor the parents working all summer, we need to send to camp, it’s not an option to say we won’t send to camp. Most camps are at minimum $800/mo so what choice do we have??
DeleteKids that are 8 and older can make their own daycamp for their younger siblings with supervision. The kids made up a yearly theme and a theme song and daily theme too! They had a blast!!!! Each evening, we made up a schedule and bought supplies for the next day or two. I did this for many years since I had the option to work from home, and my husband had more flexibility in the summer during Bain hazmanim.
DeleteThat's beautiful but not all kids are cut out for this and not all parents have that flexibility.
DeleteThe Day Camp prices are a real sticker shock. How on earth is anyone let alone people without means supposed to afford day camp?? The answer isn't to have school for 11 months. Don't even go that route. It's unreasonable. The dc need to go back to basic fun no fancy projects that end up in the garbage at some point and skip the expensive trips. I hear that the sleep away camps can't keep up with the lakewood day camps. Why has this become the norm??? What are we teaching our kids?? This isn't an option and pare ts will have to keep kids home 1 month. The working parents will either lose $$ cuz they will have to stay home with their kids or hire a babysitter/girl to watch their kids. Its no good for anyone involved.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you are aware, but the day camps have been lowering their standards. Ten years ago they did far more elaborate nonsense with the children.
DeleteBut the real problem with this and other things is that people are working for three months a year, and supporting themselves for twelve out of that money. That increased the price of Daled Minim too. Except that for Daled Minim we have an option of buying cheaper. Day camp doesn't really have that option, for most children.
Yes for all the parents complaining they can’t afford tuition, standard day camp prices are double a monthly tuition. Not sure how anyone is going to do it!
