- Agudah statement: Agudath Israel of America registers deep chagrin with yet another front-page New York Times attack on the Orthodox Jewish, and, especially, the Chasidic community. This marks nearly a dozen articles spewed by the Times in the past three months – all defaming and misrepresenting our community.
Once again, the “reporting” exclusively features the opinions and stories of individuals who have left their communities and those closely affiliated with groups dedicated to tearing down traditional Jewish education and helping religious people leave their roots. Conversely, notwithstanding repeated outreach to the Times, the paper has consistently shunned any narrative that does not portray the Orthodox community as backward, societal leeches, controlled and persecuted by their own religion. Even the photographs selected, the sullen faces and marching children, are marshalled to further this narrative. This, notwithstanding that the Orthodox Jewish community produces thousands of hardworking, successful, civic-minded, peaceful families, who are an asset to every New York community they choose to reside in.....

Today is Yat Kislev, when some people remember their ancestor's hatred of others and celebrate the defeat of their enemies.

ReplyDeleteIn Lakewood us B'nai Torah are not interested in yat kislev
ReplyDeleteOf course doughnuts are going up there’s a shortage of wheat the wheat got sick this year
ReplyDeleteIs it only me? But I find that those expensive doughnuts are barley edible and end up mostly in the garbage after a bite or two.
ReplyDeleteYou're not supposed to eat them.
DeleteHopefully they charge outrageous prices on the doughnuts so I won't be tempted!
ReplyDeleteHospitals in the USA are more full than they were at the height of the Covid Endemic - Time to flatten the curve?
ReplyDeleteI could totally use a week paid staycation. Would love a mandatory week off... Wouldn't mind a week shutdown. Obviously not wishing any sickness to anyone....
DeleteMeaningful people compliment businesses that their food is soo good they should open up shop in Lakewood - Now they have what to klap al cheit for...
ReplyDeleteIn Lakewood we don’t want Brooklyn gashmiyus. Keep your expensive donuts out of here. It’s a busha to see how many people will be there chopping donuts like they haven’t eaten in 5 years. And then they will spend crazy amounts on it too. All those people should move out with their donuts.
ReplyDeleteIf Lakewood doesn't want Brooklyn Gashmiyus, then who are those "many people" who "will be there chopping donuts?" Obviously, they only sell them because there are plenty of customers. They aren't doing it as a chessed! Unfortunately, Wishing this is still the old Lakewood won't make it come back.
DeleteLakewood has more Gashmius per Capita than any other Jewish community. C'mon, open your eyes
DeleteLakewoods gashmius is the envy of Boro Park. Gashmius in Lakewood is "better" in every way, high end shopping, clothing, cars, houses, vacations. Better in every area except for the food, and real chasidus. Lakewoods food is finally starting to catch up. Broro Park will soon look like a shtetl in gashmius compare to Lakewood. It's a shame Lakewood is not importing the ruchnius of Boro Park.
DeleteChange 5 ages/grades in a row, and the change is irreversible. Unfortunately it's more than 10 years that Lakewood entire gashmius/ruchnius character has changed. Nobody under the age of 22 remembers the way Lakewood was. It's done, it's forgotten, and the new Lakewood gashmius/ruchnius culture is embedded in the younger generation. It's doesn't matter if born lakewoodera over 30 remember, high school graduates don't, and haven't for years. And they don't care for the old Lakewood culture either. If old Lakewood was about histapkus b'muat, new Lakewood is all about at sheyivleh sifsosechem mi'lomar dai. How did we U-turn so fast? That's another question, but the reality is this new culture is now deeply embedded. The middle age Lakewood generation which did not grow up like this, seems to be enjoying this lifestyle too.

ReplyDeleteAbsurd how people keep knocking Brooklyn. As if Chicago, Toronto, LA, Queens, aren't part of the problem??
ReplyDeleteZest Bakeshop were the ones who created this donut trend back in 2015. Their donuts are out of this world and worth it. If others taste bad that’s probably because they are trying to impress and copy them but they are using garbage ingredients.
ReplyDeleteWho is zest bake shop? Royal donuts are the best.
