- Shame: The U.S. House of Representatives gave final approval Thursday to a bill that protects same-gender toeva and interracial marriages. The measure, which passed 258-169, now heads to President Joe Biden's desk to be signed into law. The legislation repeals the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act that defines marriage as between a man and a woman under federal law. It would also require states to recognize same-gender and interracial marriages performed in other states, although it does not prevent states from passing laws banning those marriages. Still, most Republicans opposed the legislation and some conservative advocacy groups lobbied aggressively against it in recent weeks, arguing that it doesn’t do enough to protect those who want to refuse services for same-gender couples. “God’s perfect design is indeed marriage between one man and one woman for life,” said Rep. Bob Good, R-Va, ahead of the vote. “And it doesn’t matter what you think or what I think, that’s what the Bible says.”Rep. Vicky Hartzler, R-Mo., choked up as she begged colleagues to vote against the bill, which she said undermines “natural marriage” between a man and a woman.“I’ll tell you my priorities “Protect religious liberty, protect people of faith and protect Americans who believe in the true meaning of marriage.”

  1. How about passing an ordinance for all existing shuls and Simcha halls that have overflow parking, be forced to close until adequate parking is added.
The halls and shuls should be ticketed for all illegally parked cars within 2 blocks of their building.

    1. Usually the hefkervelt commenters would call you an antisemite for daring to say something against a shul.

    2. Simcha halls - yes. Shuls, it depends if they are busy during the week or not. Not every shul should be required tons of parking.

    3. How about not stopping Shuls...?

  2. It can easily happen that one liberal judge can issue a ruling and shut down the entire Lakewood.

Rav Miller zt"l gave a terrible prediction of what would happen if the US legalizes this toeva. I wont mention it here, but it was far worse that shutting down Lakewood.

    We need rachamei shamayim merubim.

  4. Any hall that doesn’t have adequate parking should be closed during the week. Our stupid township approves everything as long as they promise not to use the hall during the week but there’s no way of enforcing that and nobody bothers trying.

    3. It's not just that story. Not every thing that goes on in town gets reported.

    4. If you're not going to tell us what goes on, then we won't know. And then we won't do anything about it. So you're part of the problem by not telling us what goes on.
And if there is nothing for us to do about it, then stop talking about it to us.
