There is no clear evidence that this virus is weaker, only that the numbers of people who are infected are fewer and the high risk individuals are protecting themselves much better than in the Spring, thus leading to rare hospitalizations and no deaths as yet, B"H. This could all change very rapidly if the proper precautions are not taken. There are still huge numbers of deaths daily throughout the U.S.A. from COVID-19.

It does not help for only the high risk and elderly individuals to mask, because we are all well aware that the mask protects your neighbor far more than it protects you. We all need each other to mask so all are protected. If we allow all those who had covid-19 and/or have antibodies to go unmasked, this will produce a vast majority of unmasked individuals which will almost entirely prevent those who truly need to mask from doing so. This has been proven by the Lakewood experience so far.

The doctors are seeing many cases of those who were highly exposed to COVID-19 in their own homes in the Spring without developing the disease who are now developing it. There have also been isolated reports of repeat infections. Finally, we have the high-risk group that has never been exposed, which is a sizable group in Lakewood.

  1. So those that were exposed and didn't get it are now getting it. The question is why? There is something very strange about this. Could it be Biological warfare? Is there any other logical explanation?

    1. Why wouldn't u wear a mask even if theres a one percent chance that u can prevent someone else from getting sick. You sound pathetic and make no sense. Grow up.

Why shouldnt we wear bio hazard suits ? After all there is a chance that we might save a life.

  3. There will be 193 parking spaces for a 138 room major hotel with a banquet hall!?! There will be barely enough parking for staff and if there is any event at the hotel there won’t be any parking available! It’s not like there is much parking in the area as it is.

Keep Trump out of this. The decision isn't up to him and he has no reason to start an international issue over this.

  5. I'm sorry but I strongly disagree with this letter. As someone in the Nursing Home industry I can tell you that although we are seeing an uptick in positive cases, it is absolutely different than last time around. Nearly all are asymptomatic and the rest are very mild. Compare that to April when people were coding all the time and we literally had a few deaths a day.

  6. anon- did you just tell a doctor to keep his opinions to himself? exactly who should be giving opinions?
    you sound like an anti-vaxxer

    1. He didn't say the Dr. should keep his opinions to himself, he said that he has seen vulnerable patients testing positive, yet have not had the same severe symptoms of those testing postie previously.

I have heard the same from others in the nursing home industry that are now required to test all people in the facility weekly. They are still having positive tests, but they are not having the same symptoms.

There could be different explanations for this, did the virus mutate? is it seasonal, do precautions being taken mean people are being exposed to a lower initial viral load?

Don't know if anyone knows the answer to that, but if you speak to people who work in nursing homes, they are still seeing positive tests, but they aren't seeing the severe symptoms

    2. Apparently the virus particles can stay in the nose for months after a person recovers causing them to still be positive when tested via nasal swab. Clean out the nose with peroxide prior to testing, obviously AFTER having had the virus!

This piece on the present status of Covid-19 is probably one of the most normal and correct pieces of read here in a while. It's mostly the young that are getting it because the older people are being more careful.
The anonymous fellow from the Nursing Home industry has to realize that everyone has learned to be almost instinctively more careful around the elderly and it's mostly the young that are getting it now. That's why "it is absolutely different". The danger is in complacency.

    1. I’m the anonymous guy from NH industry. My point was that vulnerable people in my home are still exposed and getting the virus yet it is extremely mild. I’m not presenting scientific facts, just the reality that I and all the other admins I know are experiencing now. Take it or leave it, just my opinion.

  9. The numbers are much higher than reported. with a week and change to rosh hashana it is time to be extra careful. I live in a small neighborhood and there are 3 people with active cases. dont know whether they were tested, but everyone is going about normal in their family. school, shopping, parks, no masks etc. why not be careful?

    1. If you don't know whether they were tested, how do you know they have active cases?
