  1. Ray Coles is a worrier. Vote him out before he shuts us down again.

  2. Coles did nothing to when the virus hit Lakewood despite warnings from residents at the township meetings. He participated in the George Floyd protest on Clifton avenue with no masks or social distancing while they restricted the rest of Lakewood.

    1. What do you want from the guy ?? Even at this point you don't realize that masks are pointless ? What will it take for people to realize that this is beyond human intervention.

    2. they are looking high and low for guys like you to work in the covid-ICU in any hospital. Since its beyond human intervention you are the best candidate to care for those patients.

    3. Masks are not pointless! Why do doctors wear them? Because they look cool? Are you nuts?

      Delete
    4. Doctors wear masks to protect themselves as is their right to. They are not masked to protect others. Incidentally there is not one study showing masks are effective. It's all hypothesis.

    5. Exactly! So if everyone would wear masks, they'd all be protected!

    6. MASKS DONT STOP CORONA

Can someone explain the following: Israel is one of the toughest countries in enforcing mask compliance:

      https://m.knesset.gov.il/EN/News/PressReleases/Pages/press2720p.aspx

Over 40,000 fines given to people for not complying!!!!!!!!!

And were is Israel now? In lockdown. For at least 3 weeks and likely more.

Why? Well of course. Because the number of covid cases was spiraling out of control and the health/hospital system was heading toward collapsing.

In Israel there are currently 51,180 active virus cases, with 651 seriously ill patients, of whom 177 are ventilated. The death toll has risen to 1,260.

Can someone logically explain in what way do masks help stop covid from spreading if Israel has such devastating results DESPITE THEM HAVING ONE OF THE WORLDS STRICTEST MASK WEARING RULES!!!!!!!

    7. I hardly think it is necessary to point out the obvious, but your proof from Israel is completely wrong. All you know is their compliance methods, not its efficacy (who says the threat of fines is sufficient?), and not in which neighborhoods these fines were given. You don't know which areas are having the surge and in which areas the fines are being given.

Basically, this information is not useful at all.

The reason I am stating this is to show the readers what to do when commenters quote their own 'research'. There are so many variables that the research itself is a full time job, and an expert job, necessitating years of preparation. אל בינתך אל תשען

  3. When will people realize that you can't fight Hashem. No masks or vaccines will help unless Hashem wants it to. It can also disappear as fast as it arrived like the 1916 flu when Hashem decides that we recognize that humans can't do anything on our own. The more people say it's up to us the longer Hashem will keep it here.

  4. Why isnt Ray Coles opening city hall ? Why are the zoning and planning board meeting closed and done on ZOOM? Jackson, Toms River, Howell are open with public participation. This takes away the public ability for public input.
Vote Ray out! He is taking away our rights we have no input in our public land use laws!

The President and board members of planning and zoning are all out and about in their businesses and stores(Kosher Village is open) but yet when it comes to city hall and meetings its closed to the public!!
    Vote RAY OUT!

  6. There are many studies out there, not all of them conclusive. But I have a job, I don't have time to research everything myself.
So I hired some experts, the top experts in the field, to research the studies and to decide what we should do. These people are unequivocal in their recommendation of mask usage, after reading all of the literature on the topic.
The findings of these people were so remarkable that the news agencies reported it, including CNN and even Fox News (לשון סגי נהור). So everyone can know the results of the best available research, which is to wear masks.

    1. I believed all the so-called "experts" during March-April when they said
      You must stay home
You must keep your children at home
      You must close the shuls
      You must close the schools
You must close all stores and businesses
      No guests for Yom Tov
      You must Social Distance
Then slowly but surely the tzibbur, led by the rabbonim, tested the waters and we slowly opened up. First with porch minyanim, then backyard minyanim then shuls opened up. And what happened, nothing. We had herd immunity.
Now, having been fooled once by these "experts" I don't intend to be fooled again.
You are free to do as you please. You can wear a mask, hazmat suit, hardhat or whatever you want.
You can lock yourself away in your home as long as you wish. Nobody cares. Just don't tell me what to do

    2. Of there is one thing we learnt from the last half a year, it's that experts know very little. In fact I haven't heard even one thing from Fauci that was not known in the 1600's. (In practical terms).

Also there are no studies, even inconclusive ones, tthat would point to mask wearing being effective.

    3. JB - Yes, we socially distanced, and that stopped the first wave. And the experts warned us that another one is coming in September. And it did.

But that is not the point. The point is that I, and most of you, don't have the time or energy to do more than 'hock' around, asking questions without listening to the answers. Our claims are plain coffee room hock, with no credibility. Those of us who once learned in a Yeshiva will know that all kinds of nonsense can be posted on the internet, but Torah be'iyun isn't easily available. So too, lehavdil, with medicine. There is lots of information available out there, but it needs hard work and sifting. You and I cannot and did not do this. So pontificating is just plain ignorance.

    4. Anon 4:25 wrote "Yes, we socially distanced, and that stopped the first wave".

Oh, really ?? About 80% (or whatever- a very large number) GOT CORONA IN THE FIRST WAVE ! Social distancing was a complete failure by all accounts!

    5. My point is that when we finally did come out of the quarantine and shuls and yeshivos reopened, the "experts" were all fiercely against it.
One Dr from Brooklyn called Lakewood rabonim rotzchim.
After it reopened and nothing happened it became apparent that the experts really don't know that much about this. They know enough to get fools to go along with their shenanigans, that's about it.
Yes, they predicted a 2nd wave. They said it will be much worse than the 1st. You call this a 2nd wave? Its already been going on for over a month. It's a joke compared to the original one.
People should definitely be cautious, but use your own seichel not someone else's "expertise"

      Delete
    6. these so0called experts have a budget in excess of $7 billion, whose primary task is to prevent a pandemic... and they failed miserably. Only in D.C. are you rewarded for failure.

      Delete
    7. Seichel is that ignorant people know nothing about this. You and I are ignorant about the topic.

And this wave isn't over yet. We don't know what will happen, but writing it off already is plain foolishness.

      Delete
    8. Wow so many stupid comments here its pretty amazing.

I wonder if Mr. JB would say to use your own 'seichel' and not rely on experts when it comes to paskening a complex halachic shailah.

Mr Anonymous - Not sure where you got the 80% number from but that's extremely high. Nobody is certain but the current estimate is 20 - 30% at most

  8. Here is the summary of the first study I saw on masks and respiratory illnesses:
Influenza viruses circulate around the world every year. From time to time new strains emerge and cause global pandemics. Many national and international health agencies recommended the use of face masks during the 2009 influenza A (H1N1) pandemic. We reviewed the English-language literature on this subject to inform public health preparedness. There is some evidence to support the wearing of masks or respirators during illness to protect others, and public health emphasis on mask wearing during illness may help to reduce influenza virus transmission. There are fewer data to support the use of masks or respirators to prevent becoming infected.

Hint: don't google things, use scholar.google.com

    1. Problem is these people don't really want to know the truth. Also love to see people here writing that they did "their own research". Do any of these people have a scientific education beyond elementary or early high school level? Or statistics for that matter. Are they even able to read and understand a medical study?

    2. The study about Hydroxy from Ford and NYU were written in laymen's terms. Just about any idiot could understand it. yet they were still buried by the media, and many of the so-called experts you rely upon.

I would never claim to know everything about this virus, and it probably would have been a good idea to wear masks from the beginning instead of having a total shutdown (may also be a good idea now).

But one thing that is very clear, is that the experts with the largest platforms, have not been looking at this through a purely scientific lens

      Delete
    3. It's completely clear. Of course. Because an article written in layman's terms is just the one everyone should be relying on. Just like the insert in your matza box is a chazara on hilchos chometz umatza
