ReplyDeleteThe realtors and developers have wrecked and turned this town upside down .
They have encouraged transplanting communities irresponsibly! Some come with community and kehillla assistance but many many many do not . It’s time for everyone’s fingers to be on the pause button . Stop with your realtors Instagram posts , stop your advertising , stop your convention style marketing and selling your quartz/ granite countertops stop instructing how to go about getting mortgages and closings done , how to get medical and how to get EVERYTHING without providing Chinuch Habanim Vhabanos !
Just plain pause and stop!!! Stop with your missionary style literature !
Create the schools for those you have bought here irresponsibly and stop !!!
You have made enough !!
This is called ABNORMAL and IRRESPONSIBLE
GROWTH!
Let the town / towns at least try to recover and Act Responsibly from now on!!
Those moving in aren't the ones having problem with mosdos chinuch. There are schools that cater to that crowd, and they're more than willing to be flexible with options whereas the others are all clamoring to get into the same 3 schools.
ReplyDeleteThee growth in this town has elevated the economy and enables and supports hundreds of families, many still learning.
The only issue is a bit of traffic, that's concentrated to about 10 intersections or sections of roadway.
Spoken with all the talking points of a developer. The growth priced the youngeleit out of the lakewood housing market and drove up property taxes on the back of lakewoods poor. It caused millions of hours of untold bitul torah because of traffic and killed many local buisneses. While it did provide more housing for frum yidden it was done for outsiders and not for lakewood natural residents who nust move to Jackson and neighboring towns. The kolell check is still the same and people are struggling with mesiras nefesh. It also made lakewood the gashmiyus capitol of frum communities and stripped it of its glory. And dont minimize the traffic either when people are spending 40 minutes getting to yeshiva or work.
DeleteI would venture to say that you are not a very long time resident of Lakewood if you can downplay the terrible impact the overdevelopment has had on Lakewood quality of life. You probably have no memory of the beautiful & relatively peaceful life that was led in old Lakewood. Of course nothing stays the same & growth was inevitable. But the unplanned & ugly greedy development that took place here is not the minor issue you make it out to be.
DeleteIm living in Lakewood almost 30 years and have watched the change. While the change may not be to your liking, the fact is that the kollel has grown ten-fold, and it's only because there is an economy where the women can work and support it. The yungerleit weren't buying homes on 14th street then either, so they weren't priced out of anything. There are many townhouses that are considered affordable. Judging those living in mansions and then complaining is just pure jealously and has nothing to do with the facts. Lakewood always had traffic on the 9, even 30 years ago.
DeleteWhat does natural Lakewood residents even mean. As of today, the majority of Lakewood are BMG graduates. Lakewood has also been a melting pot for second generation baalei tshuva looking for an accepting community. The number of people that moved to Lakewood strictly for the Luxus is minimal. Most of the unaffiliated are moving to toms river and Jackson and not Lakewood developments - with a few exceptions. The fact is that to support mosdos for the children of kollel yungerleit, you need working families to support it. Lakewood of the past is not sustainable. How many yungerleit are wearing Borsalinos, driving new cars, living in luxury homes, wearing Ferragamo shoes, Gucci eyeglasses, designer belts, etc. The kollel yungerleit upped their standards, and the business just came to take their share.
DeleteAB is clearly making money off development. No sane unbiased person would say that the quality of life in Lakewood has improved over the last 30 years.
DeleteAn extra 40 minutes a day in traffic (or more) is a huge amount for people who value their time. Children spend up to 2 hours of their day sitting in buses. Property taxes have increased to the point that you need to be wealthy to live in a single family home without a rental
A 'bit of traffic'. How much is a bit? A little less than a bite? When a 7 minute trip takes 45 minutes, twice a day, is that 'a bit'?
DeleteAnyway, the development is not the entire issue. They could have had the same amount of houses, without the problems. If the township would have taken traffic into account. Cul-de-sacs are the bane of a town. Ban cul-de-sacs and make sure every single road is a through road. That would cut loads of traffic. When they built Chateau Park and Stirling Forest, they should have known this. But now there is really no excuse. Why is Prospect full of cul-de-sacs? Where are people supposed to go from there? They are all using a one lane road, with one traffic light leading onto another one lane road.
If developers were required to pay for capital improvement, prior to any variances given, lights would have been installed before any problems started.

If this is approved- we know that the planning board is just puppets and does NOT have the best interest of this town and her citizens
It's no different in size and scope than any other project in town, and they can't reject it without risking legal action.
DeleteIs that really true? Does the fact that this development will be situated on route 9 make no difference?
DeleteCorrect.
DeleteIt doesn’t make a difference. Flannery will get up and say that there will be no effect on traffic.
if the construction slows down the demand for apts outpaces the supply and the RENT JUMPS HIGH as started happening these last few months.
ReplyDeletemost "brooklyn" people moving to lakewood are not going to the yeshivishe mosdos so lets not confuse the 2 issues
traffic is an issue ,not only because the kollel bh has grown ten fold - but that most yungeleit have CARS which wasnt 25 years ago. as far as gashmius this is a family by family struggle , and there are 1000's of families living on the basics..
Yungeleit had cars 25 and 35 and 45 years ago too. The horses stayed in Lithuania
