-NYC Health commissioner letter to orthodox media: In recent days, we have observed heightened rates of COVID-19 in many neighborhoods with large Orthodox Jewish populations. The neighborhoods that have presented higher proportions of positive COVID-19 tests—when compared to adjacent areas—include the Forest Hills and Far Rockaway sections of Queens as well as the Midwood, Williamsburg and Borough Park sections of Brooklyn.
-During the past two weeks, Orthodox communities in New York once again started seeing a spike in cases. During that period, according to a medical source in the community who spoke to Hamodia on Sunday, there have been approximately 10 COVID hospitalizations in the community, including serious cases and intubations. Mayor Bill de Blasio said some cases in Boro Park had been linked to a wedding that violated the 50-attendee limit. (Hamodia)

DeleteThat has been the message from the global scientific community since day 1. (leaving aside US politics)
First the doctors said "we don't know enough about this virus, but social distancing seems to be the best way to stop mass infection and overloading of the medical system". They also said that they are monitoring the facts and will adapt according to new information.

Thank you so much for publishing facts (that others ignore or hide). Without these facts, people who are at risk may not realize they must still be careful. One can also hope that perhaps these facts might move people to wear masks in public areas (stores), just so that they don't pass on covid germs that could be harmful to some people. In fact, it wouldnt be a bad idea if Rav Brudny's words were heeded.
ReplyDeleteThe chance of catching an infection from an asymptomatic person, who you are just passing in a store, were always statiscally minute, even when the virus was prevelant, and even less when the amount of infections is a s low as it is now.

If masks are the solution, then why did we shut down the country? We shutdown for months, why are we still dealing with covid? Why is Biden calling for wearing masks "until November"? We are being warned about an outbreak, yet the numbers are at the lowest.

They don't care, it's all collateral damage to their agenda. What's going on in Belarus will happen in the US when Trump wins. They can't fathom that people actually support Trump over Biden, so when he wins, it must be Russian fraud. They will unleash their violence to cities across the US. It's the Democrats that have and will continue to undermine our Democracy.

ReplyDeleteSo confusing. Last week i read here that the high positives were because everyone was testing before yeshiva starts and anyway they were all asymptomatic or false positives.
DeleteThat was two weeks ago, last weeks test were people who are mostly exhibiting symptoms, ie; the second wave. For many weeks there were no new cases, but the end of the summer seems to have brought on alot of new cases. While they are being tied to events in the community, there have been such events in May-July with no outbreak, so the Aug outbreak must have a new origin, likely people from out of town.
DeleteFor the most part, the weddings before the 3 weeks were smaller affairs that were somewhat toned down in terms of numbers and the exuberance with which people mixed. Also very few out of towners came. After tisha bav people decided there was no more corona and all the kabbalas of smaller, toned down weddings went out the window and there also were no covid precautions. This includes people flying all over the country for simchas.
