Mayor Coles is full of it. Where does he get off talking in blanket terms about the frum community? My shul has mandated mask wearing since before R'H. It is time to get this bum out of office. He doesn't represent me and even besmirches Yidden! This is sick, and it's not the first time he's done this!! Vote him out!!!!
ReplyDeleteIs Coles saying Jews don't wash their hands? What a rediculous statement! We Jews wash our hands when we wake up in the morning, after every time we use a restroom, and before we eat a meal! What more do you want Mr. Coles? Why is this fool our Mayor?
ReplyDeleteWhat more do you want?
DeleteHow about following medical guidelines and washing more often than that (unless you eat a meal twice an hour)? Washing with soap and warm water.
That was easy!
OCD? Wash for the sake of washing? Twice an hour? Sorry, what do you do for a living, assuming you do have a job? If you don't come in contact with other people regularly, then you don't need to obsess about washing your hands.
DeleteI wash my hands regularly as per CDC instructions. Why does Coles think Jews don't wash their hands? Does he think we are dirty Jews?
DeleteColes should shut his mouth instead of blaming the orthodox community who lut him on office. He showed zero leadership when the virus first hit Lakewood and ignored warnings from residents to take action.
ReplyDeleteHe was silent throughout. Now he blames the uptick on a lack of social distancing when Lakewood has been open since shavuos. The virus has been infecting people who kept all the rules and wore masks and were in Quarantine for 6 months.
He should apologize to the community or the time has come to vote out them out.
Yes throw the bum out. Can someone name one positive initiative this do nothing mayor has done for Lakewood
ReplyDeleteWhat is Ray Coles talking about? What press conference out of Washington is pertinent to Lakewood? The only thing I recall is when Turx was told to sit down after asking about an uptick in anti-Semitism. Ray, your time has passed. Either resign or reject the VAAD endorsement. Stop biting the hand that's been literally feeding you all the years you've been in office. Wait, alcoholic beverages aren't under the category of feeding... Don't bite the hands that have been giving you to drink all these years! VOTE OUT COLES!
ReplyDeleteNow I understand why an uptick in Covid-19 positives translates into an uptick in anti-Semitism. It IS time to vote Ray Coles OUT! He doesn't represent a majority of Lakewood. He does NOT deserve to be re-elected.
DeleteMayor Coles, next time a reporter asks you a question say, "NO COMMENT!" Try that for a change instead of repeatedly putting your foot in your mouth.
ReplyDeleteVote him out!
ReplyDeleteColes needs to go. His buddies who own the BlueClaws should fund his retirement with the gift he gave them on the backs of Lakewood taxpayers
ReplyDeleteThe same guy is running around commenting the same thing again and again.
ReplyDeleteWho remembers the 'recall cunliffe' campaign from a few years ago?
Ask Fire Commissioner Larry Loigman about Coles repeated verbal attacks and tirades against frum Yidden. This has been going on for a very long time, and everyone is whistling Dixie and pretending like it's not happening. Hey everyone, look! The Emperor (Mayor) isn't wearing any clothing (what he pretends to be)! Halacha: Esav sonei es Yaakov!
ReplyDeleteRay Coles is blaming Trump for the Lakewood Corona uptick and blames the orthodox of Lakewood who got it now for not washing or social distancing.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy
Coles must have been drunk when he said these hateful comments. It's his latest Mel Gibson moment.
DeleteThe Lakewood VAAD who claim to represent orthodox Jews must come out Today unequivocally with a strong statement condemning the comments directed at the residents of Lakewood if they stay silent and let this go it shows their true colors when they give the endorsement to the mayor after what was said about the Jewish community Its all about the almighty dollar.
ReplyDeleteThey were so quick to go after RUOC and others yet the elected mayor gets a a free pass by uttering these comments
Sorry, the VAAD already printed their endorsement letters. You can't really expect them to have a hefsid mammon and reprint their strong support for Ray just because he misspoke about the frum kehilla following press conferences in Washington and not social distancing or washing our hands! It's not like Ray said the Jews control the weather or the Government. Everyone relax. Ray is a great guy and has a lot of friends who are Jewish. In fact, Yoshka was a Jew and Ray LOVES him!
DeleteIt was the Vaad who spoke about bad apples during the FBI sting. Them and Ray are on the same page.
DeleteAnd those coming back from Florida via Philadelphia should be checked and quarantined!!
ReplyDeleteI love the guy having a conversation with himself about Coles. He seems to be invading his nightmares.
ReplyDeleteCould you tell us what Coles DID wrong (talk is irrelevant, politicians plapell, no need to take it seriously), and who the alternative candidate is, and why he or she will be better for us?
Alternatively, go out and find hadassim. That takes skill, work and time. Unlike commenting here.
The alternatived? Mike D'Elia and Hector Fuentes! Amazing guys, the both of them. Ethically head and shoulders above Ray. I'm talking to you! Vote Ray out!
DeleteThe vaad trolls are out in force with damage control to protect the mayor who takes care of them. A day after Yom Kippur to badmouth frum yidden and belittle them to pick hadasim when they are calling out a politician for his comments and they stoop so low to defend what was said about the community and blaming them for the virus.
ReplyDeleteWho cares what he said? Coles isn't elected to talk, he is elected to DO.
DeleteI have no opinion either way, I don't really understand the politics of this town. But to decide a vote according to the verbal droppings of the candidate, as though the Chofetz Chaim is the only acceptable candidate, is just ridiculous.
Coles plapelled, big deal! What did he DO wrong? He didn't have a Yom Kippur yesterday, nobody expects anything more of him.
He is supposedly our elected REPRESENTATIVE, yet he is representing us to the velt in the worst light possible. I'm not choosing him as a Rosh Yeshiva, but why should I want to reelect a guy who SLANDERS me and my people?
DeleteQuite true. Plus, there's no inyan of dan lkaf zechus by an aino yehudi.
DeleteThe fact is his actions the last decade are representative of his viewpoint that just slipped out.
DeleteHe doesn't care about the community, or taxpayers, never has
I just cannot believe these comments... people are getting very sick and now dying and we can and should wear masks and take this very seriously, yet, all we're worried about is Mayor Coles and anti-Semitism. Right now, the chareidi areas have it in my nj... And yes our cases will cause an upsurge in cases in the bigger community because we employ workers and we go shopping in those stores... Maybe we should begin thinking about chillul hashem as well, and instead of blaming esav, maybe we should own up to the fact that we didn't wear masks, we didn't follow rules and we had big events (and any w wrongdoing at the protests should not absolve us of our failings, unless we're comparing ourselves to them)
ReplyDeleteWe Did wear masks and Did follow the rules and Hkbh still sent the virus. Stop with the sinas chinom.
DeleteBoruch Sheomar! Ray Coles IS the problem!
DeleteBut the other communities (including philly and florida) are makpid on masks even in school and are not seeing deaths, any uptick and are keeping yeshivas open.
DeleteWhat is the reason not to try wearing a mask to keep yeshivas open?
Why does an uptick automatically translate into "us not taking it serously" ?? How did this meshugena mindset take hold ? We take this epidemuc more serious than anyone. Its just that many people rightfully believe that masks dont do anything. There is no proof that they do help, plenty of proof that they DONT help; many, many, masked up places had tetrible upticks despite masks (Israel for one).
DeleteHere we go again with the chilul hashem thingy. CHILUL HASHEM DOES IS NOT BASED ON WHAT YOUR BOICH TELLS YOU. I mean, the Jews opened yeshivas in Russia ubder the communists, where ALL religion was banned. People did not start foaming at the mouth about chilul hashem.
DeleteGo ask a rabbi where we draw the line- there are certain decrees that are impossible to abide by. Running schools with masks is impossible. And so is zoom. So we must ask a wise halachic authority how to proceed.
Thank you. Preaching to the choir. The word chillul hashem is rarely used in the right context. Is it a chillul hashem to do a bris milah if NYC banns it?
DeleteThe gemara says it is someone who is not learning and wearing tefilin. Many rishonim explain that it means if someone sees you doing something that will have them question your commitment to hashem. For example, eating treif where goyim know that you are not allowed to.
'rightfully believe'
DeleteThere is no reason for 'belief'. There is data and evidence that shows that mass mask wearing slows down pandemics. There is plenty of it available for those who look for it.
There are some people who think in strange terms. Here is their logic - there are those who are very scared of coronavirus, and they are pushing people to wear masks. There are those who are trying to close schools because of coronavirus. The communists closed down yeshivos. The communists were terrible people, because they were left wing, and the Torah was given together with the republican manifesto which is ostensibly right wing. Ergo, any attempt to push masks means closing down schools, which is connected to communism and left wing politics, an איסור דאורייתא.
Now I borrowed the term 'logic', there is no actual logic in there. If we all are careful in all situations, making many smaller minyanim, instead of large ones, making simchos drastically smaller and outdoors if possible, wearing masks in public and promoting social distancing, we will stop or slow this spread, probably saving lives. We may not have to close down schools, we may be able to have minyanim, if we take everything else seriously.
Monsey mosdos just released a joint statement that no child may be seen without a mask - in or out of school. There's no reason why the mosdos in Lakewood can't make the same statement. The kids already wear them on the buses! It's annoying perhaps, but no biggie. Let's lead by example and be a light for the nations.
DeleteWhere is that statement?! Don’t post things you can’t back up
DeleteIt was just posted on Kol Haolam.
DeleteMONSEY: An extraordinary statement by every Mossad in Monsey declares "no child who attends the yeshiva system in our city may be seen without a mask." The yeshivas call it a "critical time."
DeleteIt’s time to stop taking these announcements in Yiddish more seriously than the people writing them. They are written jokingly and then the litfish people adopt them am bible. Enough!!! Leave us alone!!!
DeleteYou want to wear a mask, wear it!!!!!! Please!!!! Leave us all alone!!!
State law, pal. No different than having to wear a seat belt or pay taxes.
DeleteStop with that stupid word "pal" here. Im not your friend, nor do i wannaa be. Thats number one. Number two, it's not state law- it's an executive order, which is much different legally. These orders have been overturned in some states.
DeletePal, I'll call you pal as much as I want.
DeleteThe law in the state is that you must listen to an executive order if the governor declares a state of emergency, unless overturned by a judge, pal.
So, pal, until a judge overturns, the executive order is the law, pal.
7:48
DeleteSpare us your garbage. The governor himself attended protests and didn't follow his own rules, he murdered thousands by sending covid patients to nursing homes and destroyed the livelihood of tens of thousands of people. So cut the executive order shtussim, he's a cruel dictator who's guided by his politics
And he's coming to Lakewood tomorrow to see how the mosdos follow his executive order. By the way, Rabbeim, hanhalah, office staff, and janitors all have to be wearing masks. If you have a medical excuse, you better have the paperwork on you to prove it, or Yeshivos will be closed down LONG TERM!
DeleteAre there any drive through testing sites near Lakewood?
ReplyDelete43 positives... noone tested yesterday...
ReplyDeleteRabbi blumberg's son in law Rabbi Avrohom Aronovitch zt"l of Passaic was niftar three to fours years ago from yeneh machala! Feel terrible for the family. Besoros tovos!
ReplyDeleteAttention Cheder and Bais Faiga: VERY VERY IMPORTANT message: Tomorrow, Wednesday, your son/daughter MUST have their mask on before they ride the bus and will have to wear their mask the whole day in school. They should not take it off when they get off the bus before entering the building. They must keep their mask on in the building the whole day. Please make sure your son/daughter comes to school in a mask. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteCause I’m sure this is where cheder and bf would release this info
Delete8:52
DeleteI posted it. Im a parent who received the text from the cheder and reposted it here
Yeshiva Ktana of Passaic school system in Passaic has been closed since yesterday due an outbreak of positive covid cases of significant number of students and staff. They are learning remotely through Thursday and will decide after sukkos on a decision wether to reopen or not based on the situation
ReplyDeleteHere everything from dr leibowitz in that article
ReplyDeleteDr. Leibowitz said that mask wearing and social distancing play an important role in stemming the spread, but that the single most essential factor at the present stage is ensuring that those who are sick or have been exposed to a positive case fully isolate themselves from others without exception.
Regarding a general approach, he urged caution and deliberation as communities continue to confront the pandemic’s challenges.
“The extremes on both sides have been very vocal, but what we need to do as a community is to strike a balance,” he said. “We have to realize the reality that we are faced with a serious public health crisis and to find a way to respond to it that does not ignore the other significant personal and communal needs that we have, but that allows them to continue in a safe and responsible way.”
All Yeshivos that my children are in are sending this out: VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE REGARDING YESHIVA TOMORROW. Every student is expected to wear a mask THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DAY. Please make sure your son is wearing his mask BEFORE he rides the bus. It should not be taken off at all both indoors and outdoors. Thank you for your cooperation.
ReplyDeleteA little too late. Reckless and ignorance caused them to wait to this point. The same with shul’s.
DeleteWho ìs setting up all these inspections in our mosdos tomorrow? None other than Mayor Ray Coles. VOTE HIM OUT!!
ReplyDeleteI hear his name is Mendel Groinem, he is 5 foot 7 inches tall, with a rotund belly and a red beard. He drives a Honda Accord and he likes to eat Doritos. He smokes Marlboro Menthol cigarettes and is a leftie. He is married with 6 children and works in a ....... office in town.
DeleteThat's who arranged the inspections.
Alternatively I heard that it is a middle aged lady, a professional 'inspection setup lady'. She trained in Columbia and she also (by total coincidence) has six children. She drives a Ford Windstar and does not smoke at all. She like to eat toffee filled chocolates, and does not have a hint of a beard.
I also heard it was this guy named Dave. No more info available.
Bekitzur, get yourself help quickly. Stop allowing Mr Coles to invade your dreams. Btw, can anyone confirm that a person called Ray Coles actually exists? Does he live in Lakewood? Is he the mayor?
If Ray doesn't exist in your reality, you'll be surprised to find his name on the ballot. That is if you are indeed old enough to vote and have registered to vote, of course.
DeleteMy son complained to me that he can hardly stand ten minutes with a mask, how will he manage a whole day.
ReplyDeleteI told him, "your great-grandfather and namesake sat with his feet in a bowl of cold water to keep himself awake and able to learn. He stood next to the open window in the icy winter, so he doesn't fall asleep and gets to learn more. Now you are being asked to suffer somewhat to be able to spend a day learning, look at it as that messiras nefesh, messiras your own nefesh not that of others, that is the investment in your learning that can make you the Talmid Chochom your great-grandfather was."
When so many commenters are claiming that we should be moiser nefesh to fight the government, they really mean, "yeah! Let's fight! See who wins! We'll show 'em!". They are harnessing their 'not-so-good' middos to enjoy an epic fight. That is not the messiras nefesh we are looking for. Fighting is a bad thing, we only do it when we are really desperate, and we do it with submission, not arrogance. Let us be moiser nefesh to wear a mask in order to show how really important learning and davening is to us, with submission to Hashem's will, and we will hopefully merit a yeshua from this crazy tzara, that is overtaking our lives, our psyches and our stability.
Amein!
