At this point in history , I dont think anyone yiras shomayim will be diminished one iota if they read about Yom HaShoah
We need to remember not keep on fighting old battles there are a lot newer ones out there

  4. Yom hashoah is stupid. Don't let your emotions get suckered into being goris it. We have Tisha baav not the tzioni secular, never again, yom hashoah

  5. Do we yidden really care about yom hashoa or reform rabbis? Is this site becoming a for all with no.direction at all?

  6. The reason to publish it, is because it affects commerce an schedules in Israel. Many stores/offices/schools/etc have different hours. Similarly, they listed cinco de mayo because it may affect local commerce and traffic. That is (also) a non-Jewish holiday, yet no one questioned why it was listed. News that affects Israel is often listed on this site. It makes sense that they would list a national ‘holiday’, too, even if it isn’t one that frum yidden ‘celebrate’.

  7. Thank you HV for being my first source of news.
And a big Refuah sheleima to all your detractors.
    Chevra: Please chill out!!!
Today is Yom Hashoa. Deal with it.
In Eretz Yisroel people might hear a siren.
You can commemorate it; or if you prefer, you don’t have to.
While I don’t commemorate it, I absolutely whole heartedly respect those that do.
There are some of acheinu Beis Yisroel that keep this day as a remembrance.
    Deal. With. It!!
You might not keep this day based upon OUR Mesoira. But please raboosai—-
Not everything is yaharog v’al yaavor Ribono shel olam!!!
You are on the internet for Gds sake.
There are some Rabbonim that would say that it is better to keep a moment of silence to commemorate the holocaust than be hocking on the internet.

    Who are you fooling?
    גרויסע קנאים.
Hefkervelt is just telling that today is Yom Hashoa
Do you have a problem when hefkervelt makes reference to “Memorial Day”.
Is anyone going to become a tzioni because of Yom Hashoa?
    Puhleeze!

Once again, thank you hefkervelt for giving us the news.
Don’t let the hocker(s) detract you.

(And BTW just parenthetically, if you are not living under a rock with your Wi-Fi connection, maybe in todays environment it’s not a bad idea that the world know about holocaust remembrance day.
Do you think the world learned anything in 80 years??)

    3. You should learn the Halachos of חנופה before writing.

There is nothing the רבנים הראשיים can do to stop the יו"ר הכנסת from what they do, or serving in their position. The only way to protest this kind of activity is through teaching Torah to more Yidden. Making a public spectacle would end up in less Yidden learning Torah, and more such disgusting marriages. They acted as any Gadol BeYisroel would also have acted, even if they themselves are state functionaries.

Reb Elchanan is talking about Rabbanim of those days, who prepared brilliant Shabbos Hagadol speeches, yet did not establish schools for the youth, shiurim for the ignorant, or any method of helping people on the brink. When the Aguda opened a school network, some Rabbanim did not see it as their business to help. Or politics prevented them from helping. That's who Reb Elchanan means. Not meaningless protests or public statements.

    4. Previous comment [grimace] goes to show how much some will bend over backwards with alibis rather standing up for the basics when it will cause a small bit of inconvenience.. Also goes to show how little some grasp of the Israeli system

    5. 11:14,
So the fact the chomer is r"l now diluted for 1000s because of what took place yesterday is nothing?! Then that's worse that anything positive they probably could accomplish the rest of their terms as CR

      Delete
    6. Anon 11:14 here.

It is not just me who doesn't grasp things. See the letters of the Chazon Ish to Reb Elchanan where he explains why the kana'ishe system is wasted energy and unproductive. He shows how the only solution to every single problem is building up Torah, with schools, shuls, mikva'os, and Rabbanim.

So I guess your beef isn't with Rabbis Lau and Yosef, or with me, but with the Chazon Ish.

(see also Steipler's letter about Levin's participation in Herzl's funeral)

    7. As he reportedly told somebody :the slightest dilution/cooling off is a harog v'al yaavor.
So on the contrary he refused to cut deals with mizrachi or anybody else even when it would've gained building any of what you listed if it could cause the slightest dilution

    8. Chazal tell us (Shabbos 54b) those who could be "mocheh" against willful wrongdoers of their city/country are held accountable for
      their aveiros;...
We know how much more severe immorality is when it's violated by public policy - as opposed to remaining a private aberration (Akeidas Yitzchak, VaYaira, 20). It's fair to say that we're seeing a great deal of Divine Justice lately. Apparently, for those running the country & Rabbinate,it's really not enough.

      Delete
    9. 1. That statement about 'the slightest cooling' is probably untrue, and has no verified yichus. But even if true, מה ענין שמיטה אצל הר סיני? Who mentioned 'cooling off'? On the contrary, empty demonstrations of protest cause more 'cooling off'.
      2. Cutting deals is also not the issue here. The issue here is showing the basic respect due to a person, when any other action will not impact their behavior. A unified religious party with the Mizrachi was a different issue, and it was not decided based on 'shitos', the issue then was that practically, they would lose more than they gained.
      3. Mocheh doesn't mean 'not treating with respect'. The mecha'ah done against abominable behavior and laws has to be done with sechel too. There is no Chazal that demands that we go 'kupp in vant', and as long as no statement saying אחינו אתה is made, it is muttar.
      4. The idea that when we see divine justice we should run to find someone else to blame is abominable. We should search our own actions, not other people's.

This is such a need in our community and special thanks to those who go out of their way to make it happen. Now, we can accelerate the rates of obesity and diabetes among achenu bnai yisroel as they fress even more garbage.

  9. While his recommendation will remain window dressing, unless parts of Reformare prepared to come out of the closet[pun] & finally admit they have had nothing left for generations besides glorified mantras of Far Left for which they have vehemently, ruthlessly inverted Judaism until it was inside out, R'YY Reinman must evidently have had some salutary effect on Amiel Hirsch during their [in]famous controversial correspondence.

    1. The chasam sofer zy"u was also very against bringing organs into shuls.
And I still trying figure out why people think the guitar is any different

      Delete
    2. It is completely different. He wasn't against playing organs in shul because it played music. He was against it because it was blatantly trying to make a shul seem more like a church. Playing a guitar during hallel may or may not be appropriate but it has absolutely nothing to do with the Chasam Sofer.

      Delete
    3. If you actually learned the Chasam Sofer inside, instead of from story books, you would know the difference between organs and guitars.

    1. Anon905: what makes you think that the bnei torah are interfering with your parnossa?

      Delete
  16. Nobody said they’re interfering with anyone’s parnassa. The question was if balabatim in a position to help others should shift their focus from them to those who are most in need now.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sorry its not a fair world!
It's not about being practical and shifting focus according to the need.
Learn from very successful baalei batim if you are looking to be successful. Their hatzlocho does not depend on how much chesed they support but rather how much torah they support. The highest level of tzedaka is supporting talmidei chachomim!

    2. Aren't we here on this earth to try to make it more fair?

      Delete
  17. Ah so you say not to care about our brothers in need. Ok. I don’t think most would agree with that and that is against what the Torah tells us. I’m not suggesting not to support Torah but when trying to help others financially you may want to consider who needs it most.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Everyone stop implying that only youngerlight and rebbeim are "Bnei Torah" it is offensive

    ReplyDelete
  19. Btw there are plenty of tzedaka organizations helping the needy which don't discriminate. Bur if you feel there is a need for more then you are welcome to donate or go raise money.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The question is why everyone is just busy fundraising for the yungeleit and rebbeim and why most organizations are helping them when they need it least now since they get so much help. The comment about bnei Torah is 100% correct but unfortunately organizations don’t give based on whether or not one is a Ben Torah but rather what his title is.
